Life Is Strange True Colors New Update Introduces 60FPS Mode

Patch #3 for Life is Strange: True Colors is now available for PS5 and Xbox Series X, providing a mode that allows for frame rates of up to 60fps. True Colors, developed by Deck Nine and published by Square Enix, was released less than a month ago, exposing Life is Strange aficionados and novices to a new environment and cast of characters.

Deck Nine’s enhanced storytelling abilities and a wide range of gameplay changes helped LiS: True Colors receive positive reviews across the board and overwhelming appreciation from the franchise’s longstanding fans.

After years apart, players take on the role of Alex Chen, an empath who relocates to a tiny town in Colorado to live with her brother, Gabe. Tragic events occur quickly, forcing Alex to rely on newfound allies to unearth numerous disturbing facts.

While the plot and characters garnered considerable praise, True Colors’ overall performance lacked polish, as shown by frequent reports of frame rate dips. Deck Nine’s crew appears to have lately set their eyes on doing precisely that.

‘True Colors: Life Is Strange’ Patch #3 was released today, October 4, for the PS5 and Xbox Series X. According to a Square Enix blog post, the third update for Google Stadia, PC, and PS4 will arrive on October 6.

The latest PS5 and Series X patch, in particular, includes High Resolution and High Performance settings, the latter of which players may select to enable up to 60fps gaming. Furthermore, “Achievements/Trophies for all collectibles [will] now be retrospectively rewarded when reaching the Title screen on startup or when loading a new save file” across all platforms.

Given the patch’s freshness, it remains to be seen how well the Life is Strange: True Colors 60fps option runs on the PS5 and Xbox Series X platforms. Another unknown at the time of writing is the resolution at which the 60fps option operates. That much and more, though, should become evident in the very near future.

Deck Nine has released True Colors’ Wavelengths DLC, a prequel episode featuring Steph Gingrich, in addition to fixes that address performance issues and bugs. The DLC is available in the Deluxe and Ultimate Editions; those who already possess True Colors may pay $12.99 for the Steph-starring prequel.
