One of the most endeared video game series of the seventh generation was Mass Effect by developer BioWare, with the classic trilogy of games earning global critical acclaim at the time of their launch. With this in mind, it’s not shocking that players are hyped to come back to the original Mass Effect games with the forthcoming Mass Effect Legendary Edition, and now it appears as though they only have a few more months to wait if a new leak is true.
It seems as though the Mass Effect Legendary Edition launch date will be on Friday, March 12, 2021. This is based on multiple sellers that have leaked the launch date online, in addition to Eurogamer reporting that it understands the leaked Mass Effect Legendary Edition launch date to “currently be accurate”. It’s probable that these plans might still be changed, though, so gamers should take this news with a grain of salt until the developers release an official announcement regarding the launch date.

Mass Effect Legendary Edition, for the unaware, is a remastered collection of the first three original Mass Effect games for the Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC. It will generally be the same that fans have played before, but with enhanced graphics, all DLC included, but with Mass Effect 3’s multiplayer mode probably removed.
What’s exciting about the Mass Effect Legendary Edition is that the title does not have a proper Xbox Series X or PlayStation 5 planned. Like many other games, there will be some advantages of playing the game on the Xbox Series X or PlayStation 5, but for one reason or the other, a real next-gen version doesn’t exist. Perhaps one will be launched at some point down the line, but since the Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5 are both backward compatible anyway, fans will still be able to play Mass Effect Legendary Edition on their new consoles.
Meanwhile, a few Mass Effect fans may be more excited about what’s next for the series. The game’s developer has teased a new Mass Effect title that is in active development, with many veterans of the series returning to work on the new installment.
So far, very little is revealed about the new Mass Effect, though the teaser trailer appears to imply that it will star Liara T’Soni and will more directly feature the events of the original trilogy and Commander Shephard than Andromeda did.
