Fans of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate have been holding their breath waiting for the announcement of the next DLC fighter for Fighters Pass Vol. 2. Now, Nintendo has finally confirmed who it’s going to be.

The announcement pretty much broke the internet, as many fans were shaken by the fact that Steve from Minecraft is the next DLC fighter, which is another Xbox-owned character. Along with Steve is a couple of other characters in the form of alternate skins.

Nintendo announced the addition of Steve from Minecraft through an action-packed trailer that featured Mario, who is in the middle of a fight with other Super Smash Bros. Ultimate characters.

As the battle gets intense, Mario is knocked into what looks like a completely different dimension and comes face to face with Steve himself. As showcased in the trailer, many Minecraft elements, such as eating meat, placing blocks, and more, are being incorporated into the gameplay mechanics of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.

Among other things, the trailer also showcases the different alternate skins available for Steve. One of the skins is that of Alex, another character from Minecraft, as well as some mobs like Zombie and Enderman.

Sadly, Nintendo didn’t really provide fans with more information about Steve from Minecraft’s gameplay mechanics, as well as when the new DLC fighter will be released. However, game director Masahiro Sakurai did confirm that there will be another presentation that will take place on October 3.

The presentation will take place during the Minecraft Live event, in a portion called Fighting With Steve and Alex. As mentioned before, this wouldn’t be the first time that an Xbox-owned character has made its way to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.

In a previous DLC, Banjo and Kazooie were added to the crossover fighting game, which was actually far more surprising of an announcement than this one.

Despite the fact that Minecraft is owned by Microsoft and Xbox, this blocky sandbox video game has always had a major presence on so many gaming systems such as Nintendo and PlayStation consoles.

That being said, Steve from Minecraft’s arrival to the Super Smash Bros. Universe has actually been rumored for quite some time now. The gossip started in a 5Channel leak, which is a Japanese textboard that also accurately predicted the inclusion of Erdrick from Dragon Quest to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.

There were other characters named in that leak as well, namely Ryu Hayabusa from Ninja Gaiden and DOOM Guy from Doom. However, Nintendo hasn’t made any announcements regarding those two just yet.

On the other hand, it’s also possible that Erdrick and Steve’s additions to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate are purely coincidental. After all, these two characters are iconic in the video game community and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is all about bringing in popular gaming characters.

In any case, there are still Fighters Pass Vol. 2 characters that Nintendo hasn’t announced yet, so there’s still time for the other 5Channel leaks to be proven correct. For now, we just have to wait and see.
