Next Earth donated 330 BNB (approximately $204,000 USD) to environmental causes in December through a community-based DAO (Decentralized Autonomous Organization). This is the most recent in a series of monthly contributions that began in August with the creation of the Initial Tile Offering. 10% of all Next Earth platform land purchases are donated to charity, with landowners voting on which charities receive funding.
Amazon Watch (received 215 votes and correspondingly 86.84 BNB), Kiss the Ground (received 56 votes and correspondingly 22.62 BNB), SEE Turtles (received 53 votes and correspondingly 21.41 BNB), and The Ocean Cleanup were the four recipients of December’s donation (receiving 493 votes and correspondingly 199.13 BNB). These organizations were chosen based on their dedication to environmental causes, and the community determined the allocation.
The Next Earth platform is built on the Binance Smart Chain blockchain and represents virtual land tiles with NFTs (non-fungible tokens). Landowners can buy, sell, or even draw art on their land, and all transactions are recorded on the blockchain.
As a result, Next Earth is an ideal platform for developing sustainable communities, as it provides a secure and transparent method of tracking ownership and usage rights. Next Earth is migrating to the Polygon network to reduce gas fees further while also increasing stability and accessibility.
Since its inception in August 2021, Next Earth has made significant contributions to environmental causes, donating hundreds of thousands of dollars. With continued growth in its user base and charitable donations, Next Earth appears to be on track to contribute to the fight against climate change significantly.
The Four Organizations
The Ocean Cleanup is a Dutch foundation that develops cutting-edge technologies to remove plastic from the world’s oceans. Boyan Slat, a then-16-year-old inspired to act after a diving trip in Greece where he saw more plastic bags than fish, founded the organization.
Since its inception in 2013, The Ocean Cleanup has raised more than $31.5 million in funding and deployed several ocean cleanup systems. The Ocean Cleanup received Next Earth’s largest single donation in November.
Amazon Watch is a non-profit organization that works to protect the Amazon rainforest and indigenous peoples’ rights in the Amazon Basin. Atossa Soltani, an environmental activist, strategist, and media professional, founded the group in 1996.
Since its inception, Amazon Watch has helped protect millions of acres of rainforest and secure indigenous people’s land rights. In November, Amazon Watch was the second-largest recipient of Next Earth LLC donations, receiving nearly 87 BNB.
Kiss the Ground is a non-profit organization that promotes sustainable agriculture practices in order to combat climate change. Ryland Engelhart co-founded the organization that was similarly named film in 2013. Many awards were bestowed upon the film, including the DOC LA Award for Best Documentary, Best Documentary of the Year, Best Interactive Documentary, Outstanding Achievement in Documentary Editing, Archival Usage, and Assembly at the London International Film Festival.
SEE Turtles is a non-profit organization that works to protect sea turtles through conservation research, education programs, and public awareness campaigns. The organization was founded in 2008 and has since expanded to become a global organization.
SEE Turtles is best known for its sea turtle conservation trips, inclusivity fund, plastic removal campaigns, and sea turtle education. To date, they have saved over 4 million hatchlings and have supported over 30 important nesting beach projects.
Why Does Next Earth Give to Charities?
Next Earth donates to charities because it believes that combating climate change necessitates a collaborative effort from all sectors of society. Climate change is a complex issue that can only be addressed collectively.
Furthermore, Next Earth believes that the private sector can play a critical role in combating climate change. If we have any hope of halting global warming, businesses must lead the way in developing new technologies and sustainable practices.
Next Earth is committed to participating in this fight and will continue to donate to environmental causes for the rest of its existence.
