Niantic has announced Pokemon Go’s December 2020 spotlight hours and raids, as well as other upcoming updates that will be added to the game. It was recently reported that the first batch of Kalos Pokemon is arriving to Pokemon Go next month, as well as new improvements such as increasing the players’ level cap from 40 to 50.
A few days ago, Niantic revealed that it was lengthening Pokemon Go’s coronavirus rewards until next summer, in response to the rising cases across the world. Some of the bonuses provided include increased experience for the first catch of the day, increased incense effectiveness, and more gifts are given by the buddy Pokemon. While apparently making the game safer for players, these improvements also make it simpler to join raids and level up more quickly.
With the holidays coming in fast, Niantic has revealed the spotlight hours and raids, coming to Pokemon Go next month. For raids, Niantic revealed, “The Legendary Pokémon Kyurem will be appearing in five-star raids from Tuesday, December 1, 2020, at 1:00 p.m. to Friday, January 1, 2021, at 1:00 p.m. PST (GMT −8).”
Kyurem is the third member of the legendary Tao Trio from the Gen 5 mainline games. Along with Zekrom and Reshiram who were added to the game last summer. Niantic also mentioned that “Mega Abomasnow will be appearing in Mega Raids beginning Tuesday, December 1, 2020, at 1:00 p.m PST (GMT −8), replacing Mega Blastoise.”
The spotlight hours for the entire of December have also been unveiled:
- December 1, 2020 – Seel will be the featured Pokemon and players will earn x2 XP for evolving Pokemon
- December 8, 2020 – Swinub will be the featured Pokemon and players will earn x2 Stardust for capturing Pokemon
- December 15, 2020 – A surprise Pokemon will be featured in the spotlight and players will earn x2 Candy for capturing Pokemon
- December 22, 2020 – Snorunt will be the featured Pokemon and players will earn x2 Candy for transferring Pokemon
- December 29, 2020 – Snover will be the featured Pokemon and players will add x2 XP for evolving Pokemon
Finally, Niantic ended their announcement by stating that the currently ongoing “Double Catch XP bonus ends Thursday, December 31, 2020, at 11:59 p.m. local time,” and that searching and managing Pokemon will become simpler with the addition of “a new screen will appear with recommended search terms, such as Pokémon Type, Region, Buddy Level, Shiny, and more.”
Niantic also notified players of the upcoming level cap increase, now allowing them to reach a max level of 50 rather than 40. All of these additions and improvements will look to bring back Pokemon Go fans who may have fallen out of interest with the game after the underwhelming integration of Mega Evolutions a few months ago.
The negative feedback to Mega Evolutions, combined with another increase in coronavirus cases worldwide, has put Pokemon Go in a difficult spot, so Niantic is hoping that next month’s update will help the game bounce back.
