It appears that Nintendo has been asking fans about their Legend of Zelda preferences. Whether they prefer the 2D games over the 3D ones, or which musical piece they think is the most relaxing, Nintendo wants to know the fanbase’s thoughts.
A few hours ago, the official Twitter account for Nintendo of America has shared a series of polls, and most of them don’t seem to be that interesting except for the one that asks if fans prefer 2D or 3D.
Ever since Nintendo released Ocarina of Time, the first Legend of Zelda game with 3D graphics, the company began releasing a series of 3D games for the franchise such as Wind Waker and Breath of the Wild.
However, a couple of 3D titles that have a top-down perspective were also released, such as Phantom Hourglass and the more recent remake of Link’s Awakening.
It’s time to take the Player’s Pulse with these questions themed around The Legend of Zelda series! As always, we’ll discuss the results on the next episode of #NintendoPower Podcast:
Which style do you prefer in Legend of Zelda games?
— Nintendo of America (@NintendoAmerica) November 12, 2020
Which is more satisfying to defeat enemies with?

So far, the results are significantly varied. At the time of writing, 81.1% of the 38,435 votes went for 3D while only 18.9% voted for 2D. That being said, there’s a small chance that the company is trying to gauge the fans’ interests for potential Legend of Zelda titles.
However, the more realistic reason is that Nintendo probably just wanted some fan interaction to take place, all while promoting its Nintendo Power podcast. The said podcast was even mentioned on the posted tweet itself.
Nintendo also posted two follow-up polls underneath the first one. The second poll asks fans which song from the Legend of Zelda franchise is the best piece to relax to. So far, out of the 40,077 votes, Zelda’s lullaby is winning with 45.6% while the Sun’s Song comes last with 3.7%.
As for the other options, Epona’s Song has 23.8% of the votes while Song of Time took 27%. The Legend of Zelda franchise has always been known for having superb soundtracks.
The last poll has to do with the game’s weapons, more specifically, if players find it more satisfying to defeat enemies with a bow or sword. If you’re a long-time Legend of Zelda fan, you know that these two are Link’s most common weapons, with the Master Sword being his signature weapon.
Unsurprisingly, the sword option is, so far, winning by a long shot with 69.8% of the votes. It’s fun to assume that maybe Nintendo would bring back Link’s Crossbow Training, one of the franchise’s side games, if the bow was winning. But then again, the company is probably just looking for fan engagement on its official American Twitter account.
That being said, many fans are looking forward to the next main installment in the Zelda series, namely the direct sequel to the highly-acclaimed Breath of the Wild. It was such a well-received game that many consider it to be one of the best Legend of Zelda games out there.
However, the 2D entries in the franchise are also pretty good, and it wouldn’t do anyone good to discredit that. The Zelda series probably wouldn’t be the way it is now without starting off as tiny pixels on a screen, starting with the initial Legend of Zelda game from 1986.
Whether 2D or 3D, Zelda games always have a unique charm to them, and these polls are great reminders of just how enjoyable its series of games are.
