Oshi no Ko,” an anime based on a popular manga series, is much-anticipated in Japan. This time, North American anime fans will also get to watch it as it also premieres in the region, thanks to the streaming platform HIDIVE. 

On Monday, HIDIVE officially announced that it would be screening the extended 90-minute first episode of “Oshi no Ko” in North America during this year’s Anime Boston event this April 7th. 

The company will screen a pre-show that will feature cast members Rie Takahashi, playing Ai Hoshino; Takeo Ōtsuka, playing Aquamarine Hoshino; Yurie Igoma, playing Ruby Hoshino; and Kent Itō, playing Gorō. 

This pre-show screening will take place at the Grand Ballroom of the Sheraton Boston Hotel.

“Oshi no Ko” tells the story of a doctor and his recently-deceased patient being reborn as twins to a famous Japanese musical idol as they navigate the highs and lows of the Japanese entertainment industry while they grow up together in their lives. 

Aside from “Oshi no Ko,” should these viewers in North America want to watch more animes, HIDIVE will also show advanced screenings of the movies “Tsurune: The First Shot” and Re:cycle of Penguindrum during the Anime Boston event. 

The Anime Boston event will occur at the Hynes Convention Center from April 7th to April 9th. It is also slated to host manga creator and illustrator Shiu Yoshijima.

The “Oshi no Ko” anime, which is based on the manga by Aka Akasaka and Mengo Yokoyari, will premiere this April 12th on the Tokyo MX Channel. It will also run on this same day on Gunma TV, Chiba TV, KBS Kyoto, Sun TV, Shizuoka Broadcasting System, and BS11. It will also premiere on TVK, TV Aichi, Hokuriku Broadcasting, Tochigi TV, Hiroshima Home TV, Higashinippon Broadcasting, TVQ Broadcasting Kyushu, TV Hokkaido, and Broadcasting System of Niigata.  

This April 12th, it will stream on Abema TV and AT-X this April 14th. Other streaming services will have it on April 13th.

“Selection Project” director Daisuke Hiramaki and “Love is Like a Cocktail” director Chao Nekotomi are directing the “Oshi no Ko” series at Doga Kobo. 

Meanwhile, handling the series scripts is Jin Tanaka, who previously worked with “The Misfit of Demon King Academy.” Designing the characters are “Rent-A-Girlfriend” character designer Kanna Hirayama. Performing its theme song titled “Idol” is YOASOBI.

Akasaka and Yokoyari launched the “Oshi no Ko” manga in Shueisha’s Weekly Young Jump magazine last April 2020. Releasing the manga digitally in English is MANGA Plus by SHUEISHA.

An extended 90-minute version of “Oshi no Ko’s” first episode screened in advanced in cinemas nationwide in Japan last March 17th.
