Phasmophobia Hits Incredible Milestone This Weekend

You may have heard of Phasmophobia lately, a recently-released indie-horror title that has risen in popularity. What makes this game so impressive is the fact its developer, Kinetic Games, only has one employee working there right now, and this person created Phasmophobia on their own.

As such, this is why it’s completely understandable why the game has so many glitches and bugs. Still, any game with numerous bugs would usually deter individuals from playing it, but this doesn’t seem to be the case with Phasmophobia.

According to a website that gathers and compiles video game statistics called GitHyp, Phasmophobia is currently one of the top five most-played titles on Steam this weekend. The game has reached 86,491 players three weeks since its release date.

As a whole, Phasmophobia somehow climbed to the top and became one of the most-played indie titles of 2020, despite the fact that it has countless bugs that should have negatively impacted it.

As a matter of fact, the game can even be considered to be up there alongside popular games like Among Us and Fall Guys.

That being said, there are several reasons why this online psychological game is so popular. For one thing, Phasmophobia is a 4-player co-op game, which gives people the social interaction they’ve been yearning for since the start of quarantine caused by the coronavirus pandemic.

Not only that, but Halloween is fast approaching, which makes the game’s release timely given the fact that people usually play horror games around this time of the year. Plus, Phasmophobia has been really well-received on streaming and gaming platforms such as YouTube and Twitch.

The title may have only placed top five on Steam, but it was able to snag the top one spot on Twitch, reaching over 247,000 viewers. As a matter of fact, Phasmophobia beat newly-released titles such as Crash Bandicoot 4 and Star Wars: Squadrons.

The most important reason for its popularity comes from the way it’s so well-designed. Despite the many bugs, fans of the game have been praising Phasmophobia for how it was able to capture a highly-immersive and haunting atmosphere.

In fact, players would even go so far as to compare it to the highly-acclaimed demo of horror game PT by Kojima Productions. Another thing that fans commend about the game is its proximity-based chat.

In other words, you can only hear your teammates if your character is near them. That’s definitely a cool feature that not a lot of co-op games implement.

Since Phasmophobia has been doing really well, we can only expect that Kinetic Games will be able to hire more people soon to help squash pesky bugs. Speaking of, the bugs present in the game should be fixed soon, as the title is expected to have upcoming updates.

As a matter of fact, Kinetic Games recently released a road map for Phasmophobia via a Trello board. Here, you will find everything that the developer has planned for the game’s future and what it’s currently working on, and it appears that there’s a lot to look forward to.
