Phasmophobia is now Steam’s best-selling title

Indie game Phasmophobia has reached a new milestone and is now outselling popular games such as Cyberpunk 2077 and Baldur’s Gate 3 on Steam. The recent rise of Among Us and Fall Guys proves how much gamers are willing to give to indie games right now. Just a month after its release, another indie game by the title of Phasmophobia is taking over the gaming world.

During Steam’s weekly sales report, a ResetEra user by the username AshenOne announced that Phasmophobia is now the best-selling game on their platform. Furthermore, the indie coop horror game has been sitting at the top of the charts for more than two weeks now.

This means Phasmophobia has ousted the thrilling social speculation game, Among Us, as Steam’s best seller. In addition, the game is currently outselling the recently released Baldur’s Gate 3 and the preorders for the upcoming action RPG game Cyberpunk 2077.

A few weeks ago, the game has become one of the top five most played titles on Steam. A whopping 85,000 were supposedly playing the game concurrently and it is still performing better on the charts. As far as indie games go, gaming enthusiasts can’t find a title more “indie” than Phasmophobia.

As a matter of fact, only one person developed the popular coop horror game. While most players would not consider this feat to be anything worthwhile, the fact that it is performing better than other AAA games designed by famous studios is absolutely not something to belittle of.

This is definitely an exciting time for gaming enthusiasts across the world. With the coronavirus pandemic forcing people to stay at home, this has forced a lot of gamers to give indie games an opportunity.

It is also revitalizing to see that games such as Among Us and Phasmophobia, both designed by small studios, taking the big fight with major developers. Kinetic Games, the studio that developed the now popular psychological thriller, has received massive support from its swiftly growing gaming community since a lot of them are eager to see what the development team can do to further grow and evolve its popular game now that it has really kicked off.

It’s certainly difficult to say what makes Phasmophobia so popular to the masses. While the visuals aren’t that good, the fear factor is surely something to hang onto. Inspired by Amnesia’s gameplay, Phasmophobia has a lot of jumpscares but the fact that gamers can play and get shocked with their friends makes it all worthwhile.

A lot of players consider the game as a fusion of Amnesia, Five Nights At Freddy’s, and Ghostbusters. While the game is not completely original as far as other scary games go, it being a coop game has made Phasmophobia standout in its genre.

Ultimately, Phasmophobia became so famous that popular YouTubers and streamers such as Shroud, Pokimane, Pewdiepie, and Jacksepticeye have pushed the game to unreachable heights.
