It was in 2010 when “Red Dead Redemption 2” was released. Looking at that time, it is already over a decade since that game hit the stores. Indeed, long ago. But, especially for gamers who don’t mind doing action in the backdrop of the Wild West, they’re still pretty much drawn to this game. Hold your horses, though, as there are rumors that a third installment is coming your way.

‘Red Dead Redemption 3’ Is Coming

There have been a few teases and hints about “Red Dead Redemption 3” from Rockstar Games itself, its developer.

During the Jefferies Virtual Global Interactive Entertainment Conference last year, Strauss Zelnick, the CEO of Take-Two Interactive, the video game holding company that owns Rockstar Games, seemed quite confident there will be another “Red Dead Redemption” game

“The new Bond film, that was great,” Zelnick reportedly said. “You would like every franchise to be James Bond. There are precious few entertainment franchises of any sort that fall into that category, but they do exist… I think ‘Red Dead’ is one of them.”

However, he retracted, saying that “annualizing non-sports titles runs the risk of burning out the intellectual property, even if it’s good.”

“So we take the time to make something we think is incredibly phenomenal, and we also rest titles intentionally so that there’s pent-up demand for that title, so it’s a special event,” he continued.

Heartbroken Fans

So, the teasers are out, but they are more of bad news than good news. For one thing, “Red Dead Redemption 3” is happening but far from happening. It probably won’t even get released on the current console generation. Furthermore, reports say it is implausible to feature the return of a beloved character from previous installments.

“I’m certain we will see Red Dead Redemption 3 one day,” the main character Arthur’s Morgan actor Roger Clark posted on X. “Exciting, obviously, but don’t get your hopes up. When that will be – I have absolutely no idea. Don’t count on Arthur’s involvement either. His story has been told, I feel.”

The Biggest Rumors About ‘Red Dead Redemption 3’

Nevertheless, fans are excited. Here are the biggest rumors churning around about the game.

1. It Could Connect To ‘Grand Theft Auto VI’

Being two games developed by the same company, there are literally lots of opportunities to connect their settings and, perhaps, their storylines. Why didn’t they do it before, in the first place?

“Red Dead Redemption 2” saw the inclusion of Lemoyne, a territory inspired by Louisiana, and “GTA VI” officially unveiled in its first trailer that it’s also going to be set in Leonida, which is based off on Florida. Both of these places are in the south of the United States, albeit fictional.

The two also share several themes: crime, the critique of American culture, recurring locations, weapons, and events.

2. The Main Character Could Be A Female

“Red Dead Redemption 2” is led by a male cast, at least concerning the primary characters. Very patriarchal, yes. Gaming media outlet GAMINGbible took to Reddit to ask fans what they have in mind for this rumored new installment, and they said they would love to see a female-driven storyline with a female protagonist.

3. Or, The Game Could Be Set In Canada

Other fans speculate that “Red Dead Redemption 3” could be set in Canada. Here’s their explanation. As the third installment will almost definitely expand the map of the second game, Canada is a major contender for the setting.

In that case, the protagonist may not be a woman after all, but Charles Smith, a member of the Van der Linde gang who flees north at the end of “Red Dead 2.”

Although the continental United States was wholly formed and rapidly industrializing in 1912, consulting real-world history, Canada was still in the process of widespread territorial evolution during that century. This agrees with the fact that the game could be a direct sequel, as Smith tries to let go of his past and start a family in yet another turbulent time in history.

4. No, The Protagonist Is A Dutch

“Pirates of the Caribbean” may be echoing in your ears right now. Sure, the Dutch Van der Linde gang is a villain in “Red Dead Redemption,” but you saw them as allies in the second game. Following this, the main protagonist of the third game could be a Dutch before the Blackwater ferry. There’s plenty of room for this to be possible.

5. ‘Red Dead Redemption 3” Could Be A Prequel To The Prequel

Here’s another interesting theory about “Red Dead Redemption 3.” It is saying that this game would actually take place before the events of the second installment if it wants to keep the game’s themes and core atmosphere. Rob Wiethoff, the voice of John Marston, sat down in an interview on YouTube, saying that the story of the original “Red Dead Redemption” marked the “end of an era,” so if “Red Dead 3” were to be a sequel, it would mean cars are to exist, which are not the typical Wild West. So, it could be even before 1899, the time of “Red Dead Redemption 2.”

Is ‘Red Dead Redemption 3’ Confirmed?

PVP Live has searched every nook and cranny. Unfortunately, Rockstar Games has not officially confirmed the third game.

Also, looking at the gap between the release dates of the first and second games, it is around eight years. So, basing from that pattern, you won’t see “Red Dead Redemption 3” until year 2026, the earliest.
