The protagonist of “My Hero Academia,” Izuku Midoriya, popularly known as Deku, may be so heroic in the story, but he actually has an imperfect family. Several stories in pop culture, such as “Naruto,” “Attack on Titan,” “One Piece,” “The Lion King,” and Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse,” have the fathers of the main characters missing or absent. However, the creative teams behind those stories see this element as an opportunity to add more drama to them.

In “My Hero Academia,” Deku’s father, Hisashi Midoriya, is a mysterious character as he is absent for most of Deku’s life, having been working abroad. Deku must be longing for the care of his dad. Let’s go ahead and uncover the mysteries behind this character.

Who Is Deku’s Father?

A single mom raised Deku. That has to be a heroic act as well, to raise a child alone. Hisashi’s name is a wordplay on the Japanese word “hisashiburi,” which coincidentally means “long time, no see.”

However, viewers and readers can see images of this father in anime and manga. Yet, each time they see him pop out of nowhere in Deku’s life, mostly in flashbacks, fans can’t help but get enraged.

Furthermore, Hisashi is also identified as a nonchalant and carefree guy who sometimes can be funny. He’s working abroad, so he still has a good heart for his family, right?

Hisashi’s Quirk

At the beginning of the “My Hero Academia” story, Deku was born without a Quirk or superpower, though the people around him have, just like the situation of Mirabel Madrigal in Disney’s “Encanto.”

However, his dad has a Quirk. Hisashi can breathe fire, but his Quirk’s power level is still unknown. But since he exudes heroism by sacrificing a life of not seeing his own family, his Quirk must be so powerful.

Also, based on his absence, he must be so likewise because of his not agreeing with the current status quo of the heroes in the story. Fans speculate this leads to a bittersweet reunion between father and son. They add that, like Deku, Hisashi also wants to be a full-fledged hero but cannot do so because of his Quirk’s weakness.

Was Deku’s Dad Ever Revealed In ‘My Hero Academia’?

Though there are official images of Hisashi, he has actually not yet been revealed in the “My Hero Academia” story. Some speculate that Deku’s father could be All For One, but this isn’t official as well. In 2018, the creators of “My Hero Academia” said they would reveal Deku’s father in the near future, but this hasn’t happened yet, leaving fans gaping for the truth.
