While the production teams of your favorite animes work their very best to make the show as proximate as what happens in the mangas where they are best, others would deviate. For one reason or another, they will leave specific details for the manga to uncover.
Such is the case with the villain in “Chainsaw Man,” Makima. Anime viewers got to know her a lot in the show, but there are still details about her that you can only access when you read the “Chainsaw Man” manga. Let’s take a look at some of them.
Who Is Makima?
To put it simply, Makima is a stunningly beautiful woman, but deadly. She is strong and pretty, initially appearing as an attractive young woman, a good girl allies with Denji, the main protagonist. But she later took Denji under her command and made him her pet.
Makima is also a high-ranking Devil Hunter who manages the Public Safety Devil Hunter organization. She was the person who helped Denji look for another purpose in his life.
Later in the series, she showed her true colors. Around the 75th chapter of the manga, the readers are surprised to know she is actually a powerful Devil as old as the history of humankind could get. She is the Control Devil, one of the main villains in the manga.
Things Only Manga Readers Know About Her
The Surprising Twist To Her Name
Makima was one of the embodiments of Tatsuki Fujimoto’s (the author of “Chainsaw Man”) vision for this work when he had fantasy stories inside his head when he was in junior high school. He created Makima to represent domination. She is also the first-ever character the author has a solid image of. And there are some disturbing facts about her.
Among them is the fact that Makima is a mother figure to Denji. Fujimoto revealed that Denji always comes looking for a mother figure because of his unpleasant upbringing back in the day.
Brace yourself here. If you didn’t notice, let Fujimoto open your eyes. He said that if you remove “ki” from Makima’s name, you get “Mama.”
She Has Always Wanted To Save The World (Also Surprising)
This is also surprising, as villains often want to destroy the world rather than save it. Readers first came to know Makima as an attractive, cunning, and manipulative character. Denji has always been attracted to her, using this attraction to her advantage by making him a pet in exchange for her agreeing to be in a romantic and sexual relationship with him.
However, at the same time, she also threatened to break the deal the moment he disobeyed her. So, she was initially allied with Denji until she later revealed herself to be the Control Devil.
Yet, despite this, her ultimate goal is actually to save the world. Avid manga readers can ascertain particular scenes that denote how she would use the power of the Chainsaw Man to save the world from hunger, death, war, and every painful struggle it experiences, creating a better world for human beings. But, note that she would use the power of the Chainsaw Man, not her own.
Was this goal of hers realized? Well, the path she chose to take tells something else. She is way too intimidating, and her focus is using the Chainsaw Man’s power to control Denji instead.
She Possesses Frightening Physical And Supernatural Abilities
Being among the strongest characters in “Chainsaw Man,” it goes without saying that her powers are immeasurable. Only Denji and the Darkness Devil can stand up against her. For instance, she is immortal. Then, she is a Devil who has existed along with human history, just like vampires. During the main story, she died 33 times but still managed to resurrect, exist, and wreak havoc on the world.
As the Control Devil, she has all the supernatural abilities this Devil has. She can, thereby, control and manipulate everybody who goes against her will and is inferior to her. She can also force them into signing a deal with her and other Decils.
By giving them a curse, she can crush her enemies, though she must be in a higher place and sacrifice a human before she can breathe life into this curse, as well as know the name of her target. Simply by pointing her index finger toward her target, she can bring damage to them. Wow. Plus, she can crush her opponents and make them suffer from the inside just by merely glancing at them. Medusa, is that you?
That’s not it. She can even exploit the hearing abilities of birds, rats, and other lower-life beings to eavesdrop on the conversations of her targets. She can also regenerate to satisfy her immortality.
Makima is strong, possessing immense abilities, quick reflexes, durability, and expertise in hand-to-hand combat. Denji doesn’t want to mess up with her – what more with you?
