Flying Pikachu Returns To Pokemon Go For 5th Anniversary Festivities

The smartphone game Pokémon GO is celebrating its fifth anniversary, providing users the chance to catch their favorite Pokémon, including Flying Pikachu. Fans of Pokémon GO have been treated to an exciting season of new events and content, including Bidoof Day, which included a new research plot and increased spawn rates for Bidoof and its Shiny version.

Since its first release, gamers who have been playing Pokémon GO are well aware of how far the game has progressed over the last five years. PvP Trainer Battles, Field Research, Special Research, and Shiny Pokémon were all accessible when the game first launched in 2016, although it was a far more stripped-down version than the one available now.

Perhaps most significantly, Pokémon GO now has more pocket monsters than ever before, and while it is still far from a complete Pokédex, players can now capture Pokémon from all generations, including Legendary Pokémon.

Niantic has confirmed that players will be able to add Flying Pikachu to their collections, this time with a balloon fashioned like a number five, as part of the fifth-anniversary celebrations announced on the Pokémon GO blog.

Darumaka, the fan-favorite Fire-type, and Balloon Pikachu will both have a greater spawn rate. Darumaka will have its own Shiny version for those who are especially fortunate. Darumaka, Chespin, Fennekin, Froakie, and Flying Pikachu will all appear in the event’s one-star raids.

PokéStops, opening Gifts, and picking them up at the shop are places where players may acquire fifth-anniversary Gift stickers. According to Niantic, all Lure Modules, including Glacial, Magnetic, Mossy, and Rainy Lure Modules, will “last one hour for the length of the event,” according to Niantic.

Like the real-time sky mechanism and extra Pokédex classifications, new game elements will be available to all players throughout the celebration. These will be accessible “in the coming days,” according to Niantic, though no particular time or date is specified.

The new sky will be lit up with in-game fireworks to honor the game’s fifth birthday, but that’s not all. The Pokémon GO Jump-Start Special Research event from last year will return, and players who activate the Mystery Box will have a chance to catch a Shiny Meltan. Meanwhile, starting July 5, an Item Bag upgrade will be available.

The birthday festivities are the latest in a long series of in-game events for Pokémon enthusiasts, including Pokémon GO Fest later this month. The event will take place on July 17 and 18, and there will be plenty of opportunities for trainers to participate.

Players who purchase a ticket will have access to Special Research, and there will be plenty of musical Pokémon due to the event’s musical theme. To commemorate the game’s fifth anniversary, Pokémon GO Fest tickets are sold at a discounted rate of $5. Meanwhile, the fifth-anniversary festivities will begin on July 6 at 10:00 a.m. and will go until 8:00 p.m. local time on July 15.
