Fortnite Confirms The Suicide Squad Bloodsport Skin

Over the last year or so, Fortnite has been associated with franchise crossovers. The battle royale title has become a destination for virtually any and all of pop culture, from major sports organizations like the NFL and NBA to gaming and cinema stars like God of War’s Kratos and Ripley from Alien. Fortnite is following suit, adding Bloodsport from the forthcoming DC blockbuster The Suicide Squad to the game.

The 2021 remake of director James Gunn’s 2016 film Suicide Squad is set to open in US theaters on August 6. Bloodsport, played by Idris Elba, is a dangerous mercenary in prison for shooting Superman with a Kryptonite bullet and placing him in the ICU. Bloodsport was designed expressly for Idris Elba to fill the role vacated by Will Smith’s Deadshot in the first film.

The video, which was posted on the official Fortnite YouTube page, begins with the Bloodsport star himself discussing the upcoming skin. Elba discusses his character’s origins, saying that his mercenary father has trained him from birth, that whatever he holds is “legally regarded a lethal weapon,” and that he is a “world-class” ruthless marksman.

Bloodsport is seen in the teaser using a number of weapons, including a Hand Cannon, SCAR, Rocket Launcher, and Rail Gun, demonstrating his cinematic counterpart’s ability to master any and all weaponry. Bloodsport’s high-tech outfit in The Suicide Squad enables him immediate access to his entire armament, which is ideal for Fortnite.

In many of the trailer’s scenes, Harley Quinn from The Suicide Squad appears in the background, but not in her film-accurate costume. Bloodsport’s design differs significantly from that of his comic book counterpart, who wears camo trousers and a bandanna. However, this drastic wardrobe change serves a functional reason.

Bloodsport in the comics has the ability to create firearms out of thin air. Bloodsport’s abilities were changed for the film since his high-tech outfit is made up of changing explosives, giving the character a more realistic feel.

Fortnite appears to be on a roll when it comes to collaborating with current blockbusters. Fortnite just published a map inspired on M. Night Shymalan’s novel Old. Players must gather materials, create equipment, find clues, and leave the beach before a 30-minute timer runs out, aging and slowing them down in the process. While Old is an unusual crossover, it might pave the way for The Suicide Squad to have a similar treatment.

Bloodsport will be available on August 3rd, and players will be able to jump right in. Early reviews for his film The Suicide Squad have been favorable, thus additional members of Task Force X may join the war royale.
