Konami Issues Apology For eFootball 2022 Launch Problems

From the outset, Konami’s decision to rename its Pro Evolution Soccer franchise as the new free-to-play eFootball series has been contentious. However, problems have become a lot worse with the release of the base version of eFootball 2022.

The football game contains a considerable number of gameplay flaws and a lot of obvious graphic mistakes that turn players into terrifying caricatures. The public’s dissatisfaction with eFootball 2022 has prompted Konami to make an apology.

Konami says flatly in a statement released Friday morning, “We are deeply sorry for the inconveniences.” The message begins by apologizing for the bad criticism that has been posted on social media. To begin, Konami emphasizes input on the gameplay of eFootball 2022.

While it does not mention particular concerns, the broad subjects of negative comments appear to be pass speed and defense operation. Konami acknowledges that there are further game balance concerns to fix.

While Konami admits that game balance is the first area that needs improvement, it also notes the more viral concerns that have been discussed online. According to Konami, there have been reports of issues with in-game cutscenes, character facial expressions, player character movement, and the behavior of the football itself. Its statement fully includes many of the most heinous images and films being circulated online.

It may not be what eFootball players want to hear, but Konami has yet to address these concerns. The firm promises frequent updates that will be delivered “continuously” and “consistently.” These upgrades will fix quality concerns and continue to bring out material in accordance with the strategy for eFootball 2022. However, Konami’s only practical efforts are an update in October and the distribution of questionnaires in order to get additional input.

The final part of the message is unlikely to appease many eFootball 2022 players. Konami promises to try its “utmost” to “satisfy as many customers as possible” while also encouraging continuous support for eFootball 2022. Of course, the game is free to download and play on PC, consoles, and mobile devices.

Clearly, the perception is that Konami may have released eFootball 2022 too soon, maybe to beat the release of FIFA 22 today. The game still needs improvement, but Konami has committed to an ambitious content delivery schedule, which includes the game’s most lucrative, microtransaction-rich game modes and features.

It’s tough to envision Konami fixing eFootball 2022’s numerous flaws while continuing releasing content, and today’s statement may indicate that. That, however, is the problem Konami confronts.
