It has all the hallmarks of a science fiction movie. Some disillusioned scientist is working in the basement of some clandestine laboratory, combining chemicals and potions to create something that never existed before. In most movies, the creation would kill the mad scientist. In real life, however, it’s not the creator that gets hurt. It’s the consumer.

Instead of science fiction, combining elements from separate entities is happening right now. It’s called synthetic identity theft, and it takes elements from a real person and combines them with the made-up identity from a cyber crook to create a new, or synthetic, entity. The criminals then use these new identities to steal from your bank accounts, create new credit cards in your name, steal your tax return, commit medical identity theft and so much more.

Creating a Synthetic Identity

Here’s what’s happening in the cybercrook’s lab. They steal a Social Security number, often from a child. In fact, over 1 million children had their Social Security number stolen last year, and two-thirds of them were 7 years of age and younger. Child identity theft is a growing problem, and a lot has to do with synthetic identity theft. According to the Federal Reserve, synthetic identity theft is the fastest-growing form of identity theft in the U.S. And it’s costing victims about $15,000 each.

Once the cybercrook has that Social Security number (your child’s or your own), or a Credit Privacy Number (CPN),  they merge it with fake names, phony birth dates, different addresses and phone numbers, or other data, and come up with a hybrid of a real number and a made-up person. And that’s when the crook really gets going. Sadly, it’s not only children whose Social Security numbers end up in a synthetic identity scam. It’s elderly and, unfortunately, those who have recently died.

Once the synthetic identity is created, the cybercrook builds a credit history using phony names and information. After going on a credit theft rampage, they move on to a different synthetic identity. But the damage has already been done. They set up credit card accounts and charge on with no intention of ever repaying. They can also steal funds from banks, repair their own poor credit scores and perform many other nefarious activities.

How Did Synthetic Identity Theft Grow so Fast?

It seems like nobody ever heard the term “synthetic identity theft” a few years ago, and then it had become the fastest-growing form of identity theft in the US. How did this happen? First, Social Security changed its tactics. It used to be that a person’s SSN was tied to the state where they were born, which was discontinued in 2011. This made it harder for financial institutions to spot Social Security fraud.

Another problem is that a person’s personally identifiable information (PII) is easier than ever to access. All a cyber crook has to do is hack into a database that has customer information (these data breaches happen every year).  Once the hack is completed, the cybercrook has volumes of personal information to merge with real Social Security numbers. Another tactic is to buy the information from people-search sites, which have millions of records of unauthorized personal information. Once they have the basic PII, they can search further and end up with an SSN and other information. The fraud begins.

Preventing Synthetic Identity Theft

While everyone is concerned about how fast synthetic identity theft is growing, all is not lost. In fact, there are ways to prevent it from happening in the first place.

One of the first steps is to delete all unauthorized personal information from people-search sites. It’s not an easy chore, but it can – and must be done. The problem is that there are more than 100 people-search sites, like ZoomInfo, PeekYou, and Spokeo. First, you need to find each one, and then delete the info, and opt out. However, each site has its own rules and regulations on how to delete information and permanently opt-out. It’s quite time-consuming, and if you hire someone to do it, plan on writing a large check.

Another tactic is to boost your online security by enhancing your password protection. Having a strong password is key – and that means one that’s at least 10 characters long, and includes numbers and symbols. In addition, you should have a different password for each and every account you log onto. Managing that would drive the average person crazy, so a password manager is the work-around that will generate and manage all of your passwords. The top ones include LastPass, 1Password, and Dashlane.

Limit your Social Security number exposure. Other than financial institutions you deal with or visit in person, or government entities you’ve verified, don’t hand out your SSN. In addition, limit the chance a thief can get access to Social Security correspondence by eliminating paper correspondence. Instead, use Social Security’s online portal to conduct all of your business.

If you think you’ve become a victim of synthetic identity theft, report it. Always check your credit reports to make sure there isn’t any suspicious activity, and if you find any, report it. Fortnite Announces Impossible Escape Time Limited Mode

Fortnite is releasing information on the newest limited-time mode. Impossible Escape, the latest LTM, is a departure from Fortnite’s previous offerings, requiring players to brave the wild in order to escape an increasingly dangerous version of the island.

The famous free-to-play shooter from Epic Games is approaching the end of its sixth season. The developers have been hard at work churning out content to keep Season 6 interesting, including the addition of Wild Weeks, which focuses on a different gameplay dynamic per week in Battle Royale. With the release of Impossible Escape, Epic is extending its new lineup ever more.

Impossible Escape pits 16 teams against each other on an island where they can all “awaken” far apart. These players must then find a “Choppa,” a.k.a. a helicopter, in order to flee the island, which is overrun by predatory beasts, guardians, spirits, and other creatures.

Worse, according to the official Fortnite site, “new challenges” will appear each time the sun sets. Finding a Choppa isn’t enough; the vehicle needs four separate pieces, all of which can be found anywhere on the island. The Choppa must be flown to an evacuation point until its fuel runs out after the pieces have been found and assembled.

There are two variations of the Impossible Escape LTM: one for PvE and one for PvP. In all iterations, players will be able to partner up with other players when they meet on the island, allowing for teams of up to four players.

However, the majority of the gameplay interface differs significantly from the two versions. There are three Choppas in total in PvE, and newly formed squads are unable to damage one another. In PvP, the situation is even more desperate, with just one Choppa remaining and player-to-player eliminations being allowed. While it seems to be lacking certain main elements, some fans believe that this may be Fortnite’s open-world mode, which was leaked during the Apple court case.

Players would need to team up and cross an AI-infested island in search of Choppa pieces to make their escape, as seen in the teaser. The mode seems to have a lot of potential to be a lot of fun, and it seems to be a departure from Fortnite’s regular fare.

Players are already finding parallels between the Retrieve goal and the Zombies Outbreak mode in Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War. Players in the open-world CoD mode are also tasked with transporting items that make them defenseless, which must be guarded by teammates before they can be stored in a machine. Though Fortnite doesn’t use zombies as much as it did with its latest Zombie Weekend, the similarity to Call of Duty is eerie.

The latest Impossible Escape LTM can provide Fortnite players with a fresh new challenge, with its innovative action-packed and teamwork-oriented gameplay. The Impossible Odds loading screen is unlocked after completing a PvE match, while the Escapist Umbrella is earned after completing a PvP match.

Saints Row The Third Remastered Arriving To The Next-Gen Consoles

Saints Row: The Third got a newly remastered version for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One last year, and it was later released on Google Stadia in March. PC owners, on the other hand, could only buy it from the Epic Game Store, but the exclusivity would end after just a few days. However, it turns out that Steam users aren’t the only ones who will be able to play the game.

Saints Row: The Third Remastered will also see a next-gen update on the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S, according to publisher Deep Silver, who revealed the news on the game’s official website earlier today.

Not just that, but it’ll be released on May 22nd, the same day as the Steam version. Deep Silver also promises that this next-gen update will be on par with the PC version in terms of settings and that anybody who already has the PS4 or Xbox One version will be able to download it for free.

In terms of technological changes, it’ll be just as one would expect from a next-generation update. Both formats would have a 60fps framerate and dynamic 4K resolution. Only the Xbox Series X update, however, can let you choose between a Performance and a Beauty mode.

Performance mode, like other games including Resident Evil Village, provides 60 frames per second at 1080p resolution. Beauty mode, on the other hand, is limited to 30 frames per second but has a 4K resolution.

The new Limit Breaks that will appear in the INTERmission DLC for Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade on PS5 have been announced by Square Enix. Limit Breaks first appeared in the original Final Fantasy 7 and have since appeared in different ways in every mainline Final Fantasy title.

Limit Breaks were brought back in the FF7 Remake, but each character has their own set of moves to pick from. As the player takes damage, the Limit Break meter fills up. When it’s absolute, the player will unleash a devastating strike. Since FF7 Remake is the first game in a new series, each character can only select from two Limit Breaks. Since the meter still resets at the conclusion of a fight, players can no longer save Limit Breaks for tougher fights.

The INTERmission DLC for the forthcoming Intergrade edition of FF7 Remake for PS5 will have two new chapters featuring Yuffie from FF7. The Yuffie material, which includes Ramuh, will introduce new summons and Materia to the game. According to a recent update on the Square Enix website, the INTERmission DLC would include Limit Breaks for Yuffie and Sonon.

Bloodbath is Yuffie’s Limit Break, which is a nod to her Bloodfest Limit Break from Final Fantasy 7. Yuffie would be able to execute a whirlwind of blows in order to do a lot of damage to enemies with Bloodbath.

Sonon has a Limit Break called Dance of the Dragon that allows him to use his staff to perform several strikes. In addition, it has been established that Sonon cannot be controlled directly in combat and must be given orders by the player.

With Synergized Art of War, which allows Sonon and Yuffie to launch a barrage of attacks, and Synergized Windstorm, which causes a tremendous blast of wind that hits enemies, Sonon and Yuffie can launch concerted attacks against the enemy.

The Sega Dreamcast is a very controversial retro console. On the one hand, it is the first home console with 3D graphics passing the test of time and now. The first gamepad available with the console was with a minimal set of controls for interacting with early 3D games: sufficient performance to port the best games of the day and a full-fledged VGA video output at the hardware level.

On the other hand, the relevance of using the console itself in modern conditions is hampered by some features:

Marvel’s Avengers Reveal Hulk MCU Skin

The Hulk’s Avengers: Endgame costume will debut on May 20 in Marvel’s Avengers. This is the most recent collection of skins for the superhero game influenced by the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Both Black Widow and Hawkeye have obtained skins based on their outfits from the blockbuster MCU film Avengers: Endgame in the last few weeks.

More Avengers: Endgame skins for Marvel’s Avengers are on the way, according to a new game roadmap. Crystal Dynamics announced that more clothes from the Russo Brothers’ latest MCU film would be added to the game during May and June, which will see the Red Room Takeover and the Cosmic Cube activities. A fan-favorite outfit is expected to join the roster of MCU-inspired skins, which already includes two.

Crystal Dynamics revealed on the PlayAvengers Twitter account that beginning May 20, Hulk’s outfit from Avengers: Endgame would be available for purchase in Marvel’s Avengers’ in-game marketplace. The skin would most likely cost 1400 credits, the same as Hawkeye and Black Widow’s MCU skins, but the developer did not specify a price.

The look from the MCU’s penultimate Phase 3 film, “Professor Hulk,” is featured in the Tweet. Purple accents, as well as knee and abdomen pads, add color to the otherwise gray ensemble. In the third act of the film, Hulk wore this costume. When building the Iron Gauntlet with Tony Stark and Rocket Raccoon, Bruce Banner wore this outfit.

The third MCU-inspired outfit is another Marvel Avengers suit that is largely authentic. Although some fans of the game have expressed dissatisfaction with some skins released, this recent addition is probably the most similar to its MCU counterpart.

This Hulk skin, like Black Widow and Hawkeye’s outfits, has a different hairstyle from the one worn by his character in the film. Fans who have attacked Black Widow and Hawkeye’s costumes for having different hairstyles may be offended by this. This has become more of a theme, and with more Avengers: Endgame skins due to appear in the coming weeks, fans can expect more of the same.

Crystal Dynamics appears to be outfitting the majority of its heroes with skins from the most recent MCU film. Iron Man, Captain America, and Thor are the only remaining characters from that film. With this in mind, their appearances on Marvel’s Avengers are expected to happen in the first few weeks of the season.

Call of Duty Warzone Rambo Skin Revealed , Die Hard Featured In Trailer

Call of Duty has finally unveiled its Rambo skin (and the highly teased Die Hard) in a trailer for its forthcoming ’80s Action Heroes event, after months of teasing. The vast range of operators and skins in Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War and Warzone, including those modeled after horror movie characters Jigsaw and Leatherface, has made the series more lucrative than ever, and Activision is eager to fully embrace the money-making theme with classic action movie actors in Call of Duty.

The arrival of First Blood-era John Rambo and Die Hard’s John McClane skins may have felt delayed due to rumors, hacks, and increasingly heavy-handed teases by Call of Duty on social media, but their presence was only acknowledged for a brief period before being formally hinted at.

In early May, a story about a Rambo skin coming to Warzone and Black Ops Cold War started spreading online, but it’s unknown how the details got beyond Activision’s control. However, much to the publisher’s delight, the player reaction was overwhelmingly positive.

Then, in the coming weeks, Call of Duty’s Twitter account started strongly implying that the rumors were true, resulting in an official preview that included only a brief glimpse of the upcoming Rambo skin and an allusion to the classic First Blood quotation, “To survive a battle, you have to become war.”

Recently, compelling Call of Duty screenshots of Rambo and Die Hard skins leaked online, prompting an even more thinly veiled tease from Call of Duty’s Twitter, asking players to get ready for the ’80s Action Heroes case, which begins on May 20. A new trailer for Call of Duty: Warzone, Black Ops Cold War, and Mobile players was released on Tuesday on the Call of Duty YouTube website, confirming the inclusion and presence of Rambo’s skin.

It’s a brief trailer that serves more like a preview for the Rambo skin’s official look. It’s also a sampler of the irreverent grindhouse sound that Call of Duty’s ’80s Action Heroes case seems to be going for, bringing some levity to Warzone’s Search for Adler’s more intense nature.

While John Rambo’s model tends to be marginally better than the previous model, some of the best looks at the skin in the trailer tend to be prerendered the video, making comparison difficult. If the information is right, the leaked model’s slim build seems to be a little more muscular (and therefore in line with how Sylvester Stallone looked in First Blood).

Another big nod to the alleged John McClane skin is made in the trailer, as the narrator unsubtly suggests the character is next to get the Call of Duty treatment by mentioning the 1988 film.

While some may have wanted more skins to be released all at once to demonstrate the crossover potential of Call of Duty, a character-by-character approach may enable Activision to spread out the release of its ’80s Action Heroes material.

The only speculated skin still lacking is Terminator, but it won’t be long before Arnold Schwarzenegger’s famous T-800 and maybe more skins find their way into Warzone and its sister games.
