According to new leaks, a new variant of the Shadowfall limited-time mode seems set to come to Apex Legends for an upcoming Halloween event. Shadowfall is a limited time-mode that made its first appearance during Apex Legends’ Season 3 Fight or Fright Collection event in October 2019.

It takes place on the abandoned Kings Canyon map at night, where players need to escape the island before being infected by the Shadows. The infection-style game mode seems set to return to Apex Legends, after Shrugtal leaks that point towards a new playlist.

Shrugtal shared his findings that show a new variant of the game mode called ‘Shadow Royale’ would be released and added expected to go live this Halloween.

He explained that there was little new information in the game files about this variant, which means fans will probably have to wait just a bit longer to see what awaits.

Even though it is expected to go live during Halloween, there is no release date for the “Shadow Royale” playlist. Respawn has not officially announced any Halloween event for Apex Legends but after the Fight or Fright event in 2019, it is quite possible that a similar event is planned for this year.

Back to the Past with Samurai Jack: Battle Through Time

If you spent your childhood watching Cartoon Network, then you’ll know who Samurai Jack is. However, for the young ones who don’t know, Samurai Jack was a cartoon series about a warrior whose aim was to go back in time and execute the evil Aku.

Three years have passed since the show’s conclusion, and now the hype is back once again due to Soleil Games’ release of Samurai Jack: Battle Through Time. It doesn’t come as a surprise that this game is so well-done, though. After all, Soleil Games also did Ninja Gaiden and Dead or Alive.

The way they set up the game goes like this: you can choose different scenarios in the game that have a counterpart in the cartoon. In other words, each level is inspired from an episode in the show, even changing Jack’s appearance as needed. From there, you can relive Samurai Jack’s history, but with a fun yet canonical twist.

Despite the fact that the game uses the cartoon as a direct source material, the gameplay  is a completely unique and modern experience. The combat system is also a blast from the past, reminding you of PlayStation 2 games such as the original God of War, and Mortal Kombat: Shaolin Monks.

Battle Through Time is a basic, 3D platform game wherein you can string together a series of attacks to create combos. There are various kinds of weapons you can make of as well, such as spears, shurikens, guns, and swords to name a few. Although generally, the game is pretty straightforward, but this doesn’t mean you’ll finish it right away. Samurai Jack: Battle Through Time is full of puzzles, hidden treasure, and familiar NPCs.

To make things even more fun, you also have the option to customize your character Jack with different skills, although some of the higher skill require rare gems in order for you to unlock them.

It’s not all about fighting, though – Soleil Games also added in special moments between Jack and Ashi, which is something that older fans will definitely appreciate. The animators have also made sure to try and copy how the cartoon looked while adding a modern twist to it, and we can say that they definitely did a great job.

With the game’s release, creator Genndy Tartakovsky and series writer Darrick Bachman think back on how it felt like to return to the series after how many years.

What was it like returning to the world and characters?

Genndy:  “It’s always a warm experience, like seeing your kid return from college.”

Darrick:  “As work got underway on the game’s narrative, we found that sliding back into the world and characters wasn’t as difficult as imagined. We had finished the fifth season only a few years prior, so characters like Ashi, the Daughters of Aku, and Scaramouche were still rattling around in our heads. The real challenge came from revisiting the characters and locations from the first four seasons. You suddenly find yourself having to rediscover Jack’s relationships with amazing characters like the Scotsman or Da Samurai, be immersed in the action of facing off against foes like the Imakandi or travel to places like the graveyard from episode 30. It was such a thrill to play in that world again.”

Samurai Jack: Battle Through Time is a wonderful game if you want to take a trip down memory lane. As you literally go back in time in the game, you will also find yourself figuratively through traversing space and time – back to when we were much younger.

It’s great to see that the Switch was able to receive some discount love, since Overwatch was also on sale for other gaming platforms about a week ago. The Overwatch savings for the Xbox One and the PlayStation 4 were steeper, but to be fair to the Switch, the price of the game for those consoles are much more expensive, running at $59.99. That being said, the game is sadly no longer on sale for the PS4, but the discounts are still ongoing for both Xbox One and PC too.

During the second half of 2020, the famous mobile battle royale game Garena Free Fire managed to reach a breaking record of 100 million active users daily, according to Sea Limited’s report. In fact, this game by Garena is considered to be the highest-grossing mobile game in not only Latin America, but Southeast Asia, as well. On another note, the app is also said to be the third-most downloaded game on Google Play around the same time.

These aren’t the only achievements that Free Fire had this year, though. For the month of April 2020, the monthly payers in the app doubled again. In fact, the stats just keep increasing every year. If we take a look at India, one of the biggest markets for the game, we can see that an impressive 10% of all active users are monthly payers.

Despite the fact that we were hit with a pandemic this year, Garena looked at the situation in a positive light and turned something bad into an opportunity i.e. the company found ways to keep the fan base alive during quarantine.

They were supposed to host the Free Fire Champions Cup this year, but due to the virus, the international competitions were reasonably canceled and the esports tournaments were turned into online events instead.

For instance, there have been countless regional solo and squad tournaments for avid gamers. In addition to that, online competitions also took place for local teams to take part in. It’s undeniably so impressive how Sea Limited was able to quickly turn the situation around. Compared to the Free Fire tournaments back in 2019, the ones in 2020 doubled in amount. In fact, these competitions have already garnered at least 90 million views worldwide.

Meet Leona: the Newest Addition to Legends of Runeterra

From the Targon region, Riot Games has announced the fifth and newest addition to Legends of Runeterra’s Call of the Mountain expansion set. She’s an especially relevant champion for this expansion, since she helps continue building on the Daybreak mechanic that the expansion is aiming for.

Coming in as a four-mana unit, Leona has a Daybreak ability that stuns even the strongest of enemies. If you are able to activate Daybreak at least four times, then you can reach her leveled form.

Her leveled form is still also a four-mana unit, but with a +1/+1 in stats. The difference is that any Daybreak activation in future moves will will also stun the strongest enemy when she levels up. She may not be the best one out there, but she’s definitely not that bad either.

Not going to lie though, her champion spell called “Leona’s Guiding Light” is somewhat impressive, as this gives allied followers +2/+2. However, this is highly dependent on the state the board is in, as well as the units the other players are using.

Just like the other Daybreak cards that were revealed, Leona is also the type who wants to go through the board quickly. What’s so great about this champion is that it’s possible for you to level her up even when you’re just on her fourth turn. However, this is only achievable if a Daybreak card is played every turn leading up to Leona’s.

You will be able to make use of Leona once Call of the Mountain get released for PC and mobile devices on August 26.
