If you’re a fan of horror games, then you may want to check this out. Developer Silent Bear Studio and publisher Black Rose Projects have recently announced Dark Moonlight, an upcoming survival horror game for the PC. The new title will feature first-person gameplay, as you encounter and battle against monsters and bosses, as well as figure out a variety of mind-boggling puzzles. The two Poland-based companies have yet to reveal the game’s release date, however.
In Dark Moonlight, you take on the role of the protagonist known as Dave Kellerman, who undergoes experimental medical treatment for his intense phobias. As expected of a horror game, however, this modern treatment doesn’t go as smoothly as they had hoped. As a result, Kellerman’s phobias become a reality instead, as he gets sucked into a dark and horrible world full of nightmares and all kinds of demons and monsters.
As Kellerman, you have to figure out what’s happening and how to get out of this hellish situation—or die trying.
At the moment, details about Dark Moonlight are scarce, so interested players are still starved for information. From the few details Silent Bear Studio shared, though, Dark Moonlight will apparently involve fighting off monsters by using a variety of weapons. As mentioned, you will have to spend time solving puzzles as well, similar to the style of Resident Evil 7’s gameplay.
The announcement also comes with a short in-engine trailer for the upcoming game. While it doesn’t offer that much information and scarcely any context, it does give you a spine-chilling idea of what Dark Moonlight can offer you.
According to Dark Moonlight’s developer, it took inspiration from multiple horror-based media and content, predominantly from the popular Netflix series called Black Mirror. Just in case you aren’t familiar with this show, it’s a series of episodes set in the not too distant dystopian future.
There are different characters involved, each one with their own respective stories, and they have to wrestle with modern technology and how it negatively impacts their daily life. It’s an interesting concept of a show, and can definitely be haunting in the sense that some of the episodes mirror the real world we currently live in.
As for the different games that the developer was inspired by, Silent Bear Studio specially mentioned Outlast, Resident Evil, and Silent Hill. Seeing as these are iconic and spine-chilling horror franchises, it makes a lot of sense for the company to be heavily influenced by them.
Given the little information we do have about Dark Moonlight, it’s clear to see that the development team working on this upcoming title knows what they’re doing, seeing as they’re fans of the horror genre themselves. As such, we’re definitely interested to see what kind of horror game they’re bringing into the world, and if Dark Moonlight will be able to live up to the horrific expectations that interested players already have.
