A few hours ago, The Pokemon Company revealed that official Poke Ball replicas are now available for preorders, ahead of their launch early next year. Fans who are interested in getting one should be cautious because no, they are not designed to be thrown. The launch of the iconic Poke Ball is the second batch of new Pokemon products to be revealed this week after 151 various official Pokemon masks were made available on the market.
There have been signs of big plans for Pokemon’s 25th anniversary next year, and as most anticipated, new merchandise appears to play an important role in whatever The Pokemon Company is planning for the occasion.
Obviously, official licensed products have already been a big part of the Pokemon franchise since its humble beginnings, from plushies to t-shirts to trading cards. Poke Balls have always been available in the market, but not to the same degree of quality as the newly revealed product.
According to The Pokemon Company’s official website, they are looking to change that, as it officially revealed that they have engaged in a partnership with The Wand Company to create and distribute high quality, die-cast Poke Ball replicas.
The Poke Balls will be equipped with proximity sensing technology which causes the central button to glare when it detects nearby movements. Pressing the button will change the color of the light or begin a Pokemon-catching lighting sequence. The Poke Ball replica is also capable of performing various eye-catching light shows as well, based on the post.
“Each replica comes with a presentation case—authenticated by a uniquely-numbered hologram—and a polished stainless steel ring that provide multiple ways to properly protect and display the product. Fans will also enjoy multi-colored lights when opening the lid of the case, which can be controlled through a touch-sensitive metal plaque on the front of the case.”
The post also revealed that other variations of the legendary Poke Ball will be launched throughout 2021 such as the Great Ball, Ultra Ball, and Premier Ball. However, The Wand Company’s FAQ page made it clear that the Poke Ball cannot be opened and under no condition should it be thrown, as it is very heavy and throwing it will easily destroy the item or even hurt someone. The Poke Balls cost $100 (plus shipping and taxes) and preorders are set to arrive to customers on February 27, 2021.
During Pokemon’s 20th anniversary, fans saw the release of Pokemon Sun and Moon, and now, there have been speculations that remakes of Pokemon Pearl and Diamond are currently in the works so next year will be huge for The Pokemon Company as well as for fans.
However, until there is an official announcement about Gen 4 remakes, loyal fans will have to first lay their eyes on their new Poke Ball replicas as preorders have now begun at select retailers.
