It appears that rumors are suggesting that Kratos from hit franchise God of War will be the next huge third-party character to arrive on Fortnite’s Battle Island. Particularly, Kratos’s appearance will be based on the massively successful 2018 PlayStation franchise reboot of God of War, complete with his iconic beard and Leviathan ax.
The character will apparently be exclusive to PlayStation owners and will be joining a myriad of Marvel superheroes and villains as well as The Mandalorian’s Din Djarin as recent inclusions to the ever-expanding collection of character cosmetics. The recently unveiled fifth season trailer featured Fortnite’s cast of characters locate “Zero Point”, a way to allow the game to introduce many future guest stars from all of the entertainment multiverse.
As far as traversing across multiple gaming universes, this won’t be Kratos’ first cameo. Across various generations, God of War has been PlayStation’s go-to featured character in various franchises, as he has proven to be flexible for cross-promotion.

In fighting games, Kratos has been added in Mortal Kombat 2011 for the PlayStation 3 as well as PSP exclusive Soulcalibur Broken Destiny. He was also featured as a secret boss in Shovel Knight, became a preorder bonus for ModNation Racers, and even hit the birdie in Hot Shots Golf Out of Bounds. Perhaps most significantly, he was one of the many heroes to fight in PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale, so he definitely got several non-God of War experience before coming to Fortnite.
While Kratos has not been formally introduced as a future skin, the teases have already started and the leaks are beginning to spread. The official Twitter account of PlayStation shared an “audio transmission” from Fortnite talking about a slayer of gods that sounds a lot like the start of God of War.
Furthermore, an advertisement showing a model of Kratos in Fortnite style, along with photos of his weapons, have leaked on the PlayStation Store in select regions, which is really hard to fake since it’s coming from various reliable sources such as reputable Twitter user and Fortnite leaker HYPEX. All evidence point to Kratos joining Fortnite sooner or later.

Obviously, Fortnite is not a PlayStation-exclusive, and the inclusion of Kratos opens a few questions as to its stand to other versions of the game. Fortnite already offers crossplay across all platforms which means that Xbox and Switch owners might be in a situation to fight along the side of Kratos.
In the case of games such as Rocket League, they could fight alongside a generic skin that stands in for the PlayStation-exclusive content. Fans will have to wait for further details about the crossover to know about this.
Developer Epic Games is slowly bringing the zealous dreams of Ernest Cline to life through Fortnite, but the development team is doing it in a way that feels a bit more legitimate than the Ready Player franchise ever could.
By bringing together various universes and characters into a lax narrative, Epic Games has managed to organize everything from a Travis Scott virtual live concert to an in-game showing of Inception to make sense alongside machine gun-carrying bananas and battle buses.
