Since its relaunch in 2013, Final Fantasy 14 has grown to become one of the world’s most popular MMORPGs. With the release of the highly anticipated Endwalker expansion in November and more players flocking to the Square-Enix MMO every day, FF14 now has over 26 million players across multiple platforms.
Although the PlayStation 5 received its version of the massively popular MMORPG earlier this year, Xbox players have yet to receive their version of Final Fantasy 14, something Square-Enix hopes to change.
While Final Fantasy 14 has grown steadily since the release of A Realm Reborn, the popular MMORPG has experienced a surge in 2021. Many popular Twitch streamers, including major World of Warcraft streamer Asmongold, have migrated to the title, as many are dissatisfied with Blizzard’s flagship franchise.
Endwalker’s upcoming release has enticed even more fans to explore the world of Eorzea, and Square-Enix is said to be in “positive” talks with Microsoft about bringing the massive RPG to Xbox consoles.
Final Fantasy 14 producer Naoki Yoshida discussed the status of Final Fantasy 14’s arrival on the Xbox line in a recent interview. While Yoshida was unable to provide many of the finer details of his discussions with Microsoft, he did report that they were proceeding in a “positive tone.” Yoshida was unable to provide a release date for an Xbox version of Final Fantasy 14. Still, he expressed optimism that he would be able to give the fans a proper update relatively soon.
The massive growth of Final Fantasy 14 in recent months has resulted in a slew of issues for the game. As more players join the game, the playerbase on the game’s many servers and data centers has grown significantly, with congestion even causing Final Fantasy 14’s cross-server play to be temporarily delayed. As Final Fantasy 14’s servers struggled to keep up with the game’s growing player base, Data Centers were frequently closed to new players.
Final Fantasy 14: Endwalker is set to be released in November of this year, with a slew of new content for the popular MMORPG. Along with the newly revealed racial options, such as the male Viera and female Hrothgar, the game’s existing Jobs will receive several updates, including new Dark Knight and Paladin skills, as well as minor additions for many others.
Many fans are looking forward to the story of the upcoming expansion, Endwalker, which serves as the conclusion to the Zodiark and Hydaelyn storyline. The end of 2021 is shaping up to be an exciting time for Final Fantasy 14 fans, and a possible Xbox version would only add to the excitement.
