In case you missed it, Universal Studios Japan has been working on the addition of the highly-anticipated Super Nintendo World area for quite some time now. This new area is expected to have its own Super Mario Cafe and Store containing exclusive, one-of-a-kind merchandise.
In fact, the amusement park recently had a media-only opening ceremony for the cafe and store, making you feel like you’ve transported to the colorful world of Mario.
Based on the pictures revealed by Universal Studios Japan, the Super Mario Cafe & Store is full of goodies that center around Mario, Luigi, and Princess Peach. What’s more, Mario and Luigi themselves were even present during the event, as they assisted with the opening.
Taking inspiration from the color palette and aesthetic of Super Mario Bros., the main doors leading to the establishment are coated in the comforting and familiar red and green colors of Mario and Luigi. In fact, their corresponding hats are even embellished on their respective doors.
Inside the store, fans will be able to find a variety of souvenirs available for purchase, such as t-shirts and hoodies, wallets, pillows, and Mario and Luigi-themed hats. As a matter of fact, you’ll even come across a collection of Mario-themed earrings at the store.
Most of the products for sale are decorated with either a “Whose Cap?” slogan when referring to the brothers, or “Whose Crown?” for merchandise relating to Princess Peach.
That being said, there’s noticeably a lack of products that showcase the faces of Mario, Luigi, or Princess Peach, as most of the items only show their silhouettes or feature the brothers’ infamous mustaches.
On the other hand, the Mario cafe right beside the store offers another kind of Super Mario-themed commodity. There you’ll find delicious edibles you can munch on, such as desserts, sweets, and the like.
Customers of the diner get to enjoy the culinary offerings on vivid and colorful tables. Not only that, but the cafe’s bricked walls are designed as an obvious tribute to the Super Mario games.
Some of the familiar designs you’ll come across include warp pipes, castles, question blocks, a Power Star, a Piranha Plant, and a Yoshi egg.
There are two different kinds of cream-filled pancake sandwiches for customers to choose from. The first dessert comes in the color red for Mario, and it’s shaped like the character’s cap. Sandwiched between the pancakes is an abundance of cream and strawberries.
You might have guessed it, but the second dessert is Luigi-themed. It still comes in the same cap-shaped design, but it has grapes instead of strawberries. As for the drinks, the patron can choose between Mario, Luigi, and Princess Peach-themed options.
What’s more, each of these themed drinks has its own character-specific straw. If you choose to buy either the Mario or Luigi-themed drink, you get a straw that features their respective mustache. The Princess Peach-themed option, on the other hand, will have her crown on the straw.
A representative from Universal Studios Japan confirmed that these products will only be exclusively available in the Super Mario Cafe & Store. Once Super Nintendo World officially opens some time in 2021, the theme park will add more products and souvenirs.
The new Super Nintendo World area was supposed to be open to the public this year, but there was a change of plans due to the unexpected arrival of the coronavirus pandemic. Now, the Nintendo-themed location will be opening its doors around spring 2021, but visitors of the park will be able to look around the Super Mario Cafe & Store starting October 16.
