No matter how many times a new character gets introduced in Genshin Impact, this event will always bring joy and excitement to the fans. After all, it introduces new possibilities that could shake things up for the game—such as new potential character combinations and play styles.
Aside from that, though, the introduction of a new character—no matter their star ranking—can further progress the game’s story, as each character has their own unique backstories that beautifully tie in together with Teyvat’s overall story.
This time around, Chinese developer miHoYo recently revealed the next 5-star character that will be arriving in Genshin Impact soon. Xiao, one of the Guardian Yakshas, is the cause for the fans’ excitement recently, and their anticipation has been relentless and overpowering, to say the least.
Seeing as the upcoming character will be officially added to the game soon, specifically on February 3, 2021, miHoYo has decided to share more details about Xiao to give excited fans an idea of what to expect once he’s launched.
As you may or may not know, miHoYo’s free-to-play open-world multiplayer typically introduces two new playable characters with every major update. When Genshin Impact was initially launched, those two characters came in the form of Venti and Klee. Childe and Zhongli followed after with the next major update. With Genshin Impact Version 1.2, you were given the chance to obtain Albedo and Ganyu, while the upcoming Version 1.3 offers the highly anticipated Xiao.
Xiao is a polearm user, which is great because there’s a noticeable lack of polearm users in Genshin Impact. Hopefully, his addition will lead to even more users of this particular weapon in the future. Just like the Traveler themself, Sucrose, or Venti, Xiao also has the Anemo vision. Meaning to say that he’s able to command and manipulate the power of the wind.

According to miHoYo’s post over at the official Genshin Impact Twitter account, the upcoming 5-star character is “a highly mobile burst damage dealer.” What makes him even more interesting is the fact that he has the option to sacrifice a bit of his HP in order to increase not only his damage, but his jumping power as well.
In other words, Xiao will most likely not be a DPS character primarily, but he will be able to deal incredible amounts of damage at the expense of his own health. If we take a look at Genshin Impact’s canon, Xiao is supposed to be an extremely powerful character.
If you look at the story section on miHoYo’s tweet, it says that Xiao “wages a constant war against dark forces powerful enough to consume Liyue in its entirety.” In that case, we’re sure that he won’t break a sweat fighting off hillichurls and whatnot.
Among other things, miHoYo also shares some of Xiao’s voice lines, as well as his favorite food, which is Almond Tofu. The latter may not be new information for those players who already finished off the Liyue story arc though, since there was a specific quest in that arc where you had to make Almond Tofu for him.
