The Detroit Pistons are reportedly considering moves to boost their roster and fill vacant spots, and one player who is attracting their interest is free agent Jaylen Nowell. She is not only one of the most challenging bosses to beat in the game but in the whole of FromSoftware’s titles (FromSoftware is the developer of “Elden Ring.”)

Previously, you learned how to defeat Nezarec, Final God of Pain, in another game, “Destiny 2.” In this guide, you will learn how to beat “Elden Ring’s” Malenia successfully. Defeat is not in the vocabulary of Malenia, but of course, it is very possible to make her taste the bitter end of your slaying blade. 

But First, Who Is Malenia, Blade Of Miquella? Why Is It Difficult To Defeat Her?

Malenia, Blade of Miquella, is, first and foremost, a demigod, the Goddess of Rot. So yes, you are actually battling with a demigod once you face her.

She is an optional boss in the game. Yet, despite being an optional boss to defeat, many “Elden Ring” gamers want the experience of beating this boss, not to mention the rewards beating her can give.

She was also one of the demigod kids of Queen Marika the Eternal and the second Elden Lord Radagon of the Golden Order. She is Miquella the Unalloyed and is one of the most potent demigods, whose only known match is Starscourge Radahn, her half-brother.

So why is Malenia difficult to beat? Aside from being fast and relentless, whatever this demigod manages to land a hit with her unbelievably long sword, she is capable of healing herself. And yes, that includes if you are blocking with a shield.

Another reason she is incredibly tough to beat is her Waterfowl Dance attack. In this move of hers, she will come at you in a whirling tornado of blades that is almost impossible to dodge unless you know the right strategies, and unless you are a master, chances are, you will get killed. 

But that shouldn’t happen. So here is a guide on how to beat Malenia.

How To Beat Malenia

Your fight of a lifetime begins at the Haligtree Roots Site of Grace. Malenia’s arena is just down the steps from that place, which also helps you collate any Runes you might lose in trying to beat her. 

Basically, there are two phases in this fight. In the first of those two phases, her move shall consist of long and sweeping sword attacks, as well as a leaping sword dash that inflicts area-of-effect (AoE) damage and, of course, as you learned earlier, her ability to heal herself even if you have a shield. 

Eye on the prize. Because of that, you would want to either maintain your distance as a conjurer or guarantee timely dodges unless you are very adept at blocking. Blocking her attacks may end you up having to deal with more damage, but the trade-off will still be worth it.

Be sure you have most, if not all, of these (requirements) for this fight:

  • Ghiza’s Wheel
  • Hoarfrost Stomp
  • The Sword of Night and Flame
  • Boluses for curing Scarlet Rot

First Phase

If you do not have this or prefer not to use it, you could instead summon human allies through “Elden Ring’s” multiplayer options.

But the Mimic Tear is very much recommended since this will keep Malenia busy with many things, providing you more opportunities to attack than if you are doing everything alone. 

Then, just keep dodging her moves as needed, and – remember this – apply bleeding or frost damage to her since she is weak to those attacks. You’ll thank us later. Something like Ghiza’s Wheel for bleeding damage or Hoarfrost Stomp for frost damage are great choices here. 

Furthermore, keep in mind that you should apply frostbite to Malenia with the stomp early on before you unleash the bleeding damage using Ghiza’s Wheel.

Another recommended weapon against Malenia is The Sword of Night and Flame, more so with its magic-centric special attack. 

But all in all, in this first phase, just keep dodging and applying damage using those weapons mentioned earlier. Eventually, you will move to her second phase.  

Second Phase

Remember Malenia’s AoE attack you read about a while ago? Her second phase starts with this devastating move of hers. It’s good we have you in this guide, as we shall tell you that you must immediately retreat because you are caught in this move. Once she has released this attack, your previous attack pattern shall work.

Also, presuming your Mimic Tear is still there, just keep using them to distract her while you dodge and wail on her with those frost and bleeding damages. 

You should also avoid her attacks, and it is advisable that you have some boluses to cure you if you are hit with those attacks so you are still on your feet throughout the battle.

Go Grab Your Reward After Beating Malenia

When all is said and done, will you just go home with nothing? Of course not! Defeating Malenia rewards you with 480,000 Runes, enough for a few levels at this late stage of the game. However, remember that Malenia’s Remembrance only rewards 50,000 Runes.

If there’s an enemy you should fear a lot in gaming, one of them would have to be Nezarec of “Destiny 2.” Well, not because of his literal prowess, because, come on, you are in a game, never real. But, because beating Nezarec in the game is downright tough.

Who Is Nezarec?

Nezarec, referred to as “the Final God of Pain,” is the gamer’s very last encounter in “Destiny 2’s” Root of Nightmares raid Lightfall. 

An ancient being endowed with mighty psychic powers, he is a sadist who relishes the pain and fear experienced by other sentient beings. He also induces nightmares in his victims to feed on their fear. It sounds like “Batman’s” Scarecrow, doesn’t it? Moreover, Nezarec is also known to various civilizations who feared and even worshipped him, including the pre-Cabal Psions and pre-Golden Age Humanity. 

If you want to complete Root of Nightmares, you must defeat Nezarec. But being the game’s very last encounter, things can get really difficult. Don’t worry. PVP Live is here to guide you. 

The Easiest Way To Beat Nezarec

This encounter can be challenging, requiring the player to split their team into two groups, consisting of three players in each group. The simplest way to defeat the Final God of Pain is to designate roles for each member. That is, the Runner, the Mob Cleaner, and the Tank. Let’s take a look at each of these roles more closely.

Runner

Players who got the Runner role shall focus on activating their nodes. Light Runners will, of course, activate Light nodes, while Dark Runners shall activate Dark nodes. 

Additionally, those in this role must also be responsible for creating a safe place for their team to avoid the wipe mechanic of Nezarec. Once a tank draws his attention, be ready to shoot one of his shoulders. As you hit successfully, one of his shoulders will pop, and a light will shine from that shoulder – either orange or white. If the light is orange, the Light team should be the one to make a safe haven on a completed Dark-side node. Meanwhile, if the light is white, the Dark team must create a safe haven on a completed Light-side node. Easy-peasy. 

If you have successfully created the haven and were not killed by Nezarec’s mechanic, Runners can continue activating the nodes in order to finish the chain. 

Tank  

The Tank’s role is pretty straightforward. Those assuming this role must aggro Nezarec and hold the aggro by getting his “Nezarec’s Hatred” debuff. Once he gives your team a debuff, be sure to shoot his chest to get the debuff before heading straight for his shoulder. Like what happens with the Runners, it will burst in either orange or white color. 

Then, immediately inform your Runner so they can make a safe haven for everybody. In this way, you can shield yourself from the wipe mechanic. And remember, once the debuff timer ends, the Tank from the other team must shoot Nezarec’s chest to obtain the debuff. Also, be sure to alternate until Nezarec starts his wipe mechanic or when the Runners have completed the chains.

Mob Cleaner

Mob Cleaners are also important in this bout. They should make sure no mobs will affect the Runners or the Tanks. Three Colossus will spawn on each phase’s first wave, so ensure to take them out first. 

The Damage Phase

After the Runners have finished their chains, the fight’s damage, or DPS stage, will commence. Nezarec can begin taking damage once the light beam shoots down into the center of the map. 

Sure, you can do damage, but you must do it safely. The best way to do so is to group up and move to one of the higher points on the map. From there, you must throw everything you have toward Nezarec until the end of this phase. 

After the phase ends, remember to move toward your designated position and just repeat the process. Eventually, you will be taken to the final stand.   

The Last Stand

At last, you have reached this phase. Here, Nezarec can take damage, provided you hit him as hard as you can immediately after he roars. Or else, he will just perform a raid-wide wipe. 

If you kill him successfully, that signals the end of the battle. You can then collect your loot.

Teamwork Is Everything 

At the end of the day, to defeat this boss, you must be persistent, and teamwork is really crucial. As long as you know your roles very well, play it safe, and hit the hardest you can during the DPS phase, you can defeat Nezarec.

First, use a Basic Cast on the button located on the right-hand wall. Then, cast Accio through the Archway, pulling the pillar toward your current reality, where it shall transform into a cube. Now the pillar is removed. Freely walk around the Archway leading to the next room. It isn’t as difficult as what others say, is it?

Solution To The Trial Bridge Puzzle

Now your last puzzle to solve prior to your battle with the big boss involves a broken bridge that you must navigate to get to the other side. The following steps detail how you can do it. 

First, use a Basic Cast on the wall-mounted button, which will rotate the Archway to the tiny ledge where you came from. On the ledge, use Levioso on the cube in order to levitate it. Remember, cast Leviosa, not Wingardium Leviosa. 

Then, climb on the floating cube to approach the bridge. Now shoot the wall-mounted button once more, which will rotate the bridge to its initial position. You should be able to jump across toward the next room.
