The years pass, and Call of Duty continues to evolve, with the next installment being Call of Duty: Vanguard. Players are so eager to get their hands on the game that some have discovered a bug in Call of Duty: Warzone that causes WW2 weapons to appear early.
There is a lot to look forward to in Call of Duty: Vanguard, assuming you like the type of game it is. It has a goofier, more action-adventure take on World War II through a band of misfits, as well as different multiplayer modes for people to enjoy. Having said that, it appears that some players will have more options than others.
It turns out that not everyone will be able to take advantage of everything that Call of Duty: Vanguard has to offer. According to the latest Call of Duty: Vanguard trailer, both the PS4 and PS5 versions of the game will have “exclusive benefits” for the platform.
As of this writing, there is no word on what that exclusive content will be, other than the fact that Xbox and PC players will not be able to try it right away. Presumably, it has nothing to do with the main playable characters or story of Call of Duty: Vanguard and only focuses on multiplayer, though since this is a story trailer, even that is called into question.
This is nothing new for Activision, as several more recent Call of Duty games had features initially restricted to PlayStation. They’ve been locked for a long time, and this new content is no exception: it won’t be available on other platforms until November 1, 2022.
The best-case scenario is that it’s just cosmetics, but the chances are that it’s an entire mode. Perhaps the demons rumored to be added to Call of Duty: Vanguard’s Zombies mode will only be available for an exorcism on PlayStation, but it’s likely there will be more.
Anyone who does not primarily use PlayStation for their core gaming experience will be disappointed. Many PlayStation users will likely be frustrated because friends with other consoles will be unable to play whatever mode this is with them. Sledgehammer Games has previously responded to player feedback, but this is most likely a final decision.
Console-exclusive content is generally frowned upon by players as a whole, as it devalues any other version of the game. Marvel’s Avengers has a lot riding on its PlayStation-exclusive Spider-Man content, but it might have had a better chance of regaining fans if it was available on other platforms as well. Hopefully, this practice will become less common in the future.
Overwatch is well-known for its diverse library of beautiful skins, and Blizzard has added to it as part of this year’s Halloween Terror event. Overwatch players will not only have access to eight new chilling skins, but also to a treasure trove of previously released spooky skins, as well as the Junkenstein’s Revenge and Junkenstein’s Endless multiplayer modes.
A new trailer has been released on Overwatch’s official social media channels, showcasing the new skins, some of the challenges gamers will face during the event, and some of the time-limited unlockable rewards.
The “Overwatch Seasonal Event | Halloween Terror 2021” video is heavily influenced by old-school direct-to-video horror films, with its presentation relying on cheap effects and cheesy scares. The trailer focuses on the new Halloween skins, such as Vampire Hunter Brigitte, who appears to be the event’s main protagonist.
The event is depicted in the video as a trailer for a rumored horror B-movie titled “Junkenstein’s Revenge 6: The Zomnic Huntress.” Vampire Hunter Brigitte plays the titular huntress, with Draugr Reinhardt as the Draugr Captain, Satyr Lucio as the Satyr King, Coffin Bastion as Count Coffin, and Vampire Bat Echo as the Bat Queen. The trailer goes on to say that there will be a number of special guests, including the other Halloween skins from previous events.
The trailer also includes a number of sample animations and voicelines from various Halloween skins, as well as gameplay footage from the 2021 Overwatch Halloween event. The video promotes the event’s three weekly challenges, the first of which will be available from October 12 to October 19, the second from October 19 to October 26, and the third from October 26 to November 2. Each weekly challenge will grant players icons, sprays, and Epic Skins for Skeleton Genji, Einherjar Zarya, and Clown Roadhog.
At the time of writing, it appears that Overwatch fans are ecstatic about the new Halloween skins. Two comments on the original YouTube video praised the new Skeleton Genji and Satyr Lucio skins, while another praised the decision to present the trailer as an old VHS tape, complete with a brief glimpse of the Christmas skins as if another tape had been recorded over.
However, a number of other users expressed dissatisfaction with the return of Junkenstein’s Revenge, claiming that they had hoped that Overwatch would instead provide fans with a new Halloween event.
For its obvious similarities to Among Us, Fortnite’s Impostors game mode has received a lot of criticism. Finally, Fortnite has given credit to Among Us for the mode and hinted at a possible collaboration with the popular game.
For the most part, Fortnite’s Impostors game mode was essentially a 3D version of Among Us. Players run around completing objectives while an Impostor begins killing them, leaving those who survive to convene meetings to figure out who the Impostor is and expel them from the game.
Innersloth, the developer of Among Us, was dissatisfied with Epic Games because of how similar the Impostors mode’s themes and terminology were to its game than the use of similar game mechanics. According to Innersloth, despite the success of Among Us, Epic Games and Fortnite are still much larger entities, leaving the indie studio feeling powerless to make any changes.
Epic Games finally credits Innersloth and Among Us for the Impostors game mode in the latest Fortnite update. The latest update’s announcement tweet specifically mentions Among Us, with Fortnite writing, “Impostors mode, inspired by the hit @AmongUsGame.”
This update adds new features to the Impostors mode, such as role bias, which allows players to search for games based on their agent versus impostor preference, and an open voice chat playlist. Unlike Among Us on mobile platforms, where voice chat isn’t as common, it makes sense for voice chat to be readily available for Fortnite, as many gamers play with a microphone.
But it doesn’t end there, as the official Among Us Twitter account responded to Fortnite’s post. Following a message exchange, Fortnite states, “We are huge fans! We never got to tell you how much you influenced us.
What do you think about working on a fun project together someday?” Among Us responds with a handshake emoji, “yessss have ur Agents contact our Crewmates.” A few months ago, a leak suggested that a Fortnite and Among Us crossover was in the works. Still, if this conversation is any indication, it appears that some sort of collaboration is definitely on the way.
While Epic Games’ battle with Apple does not appear to be coming to an end anytime soon, it is encouraging to see things settle between it and Innersloth. While Innersloth does not own the rights to its gameplay in Among Us, Epic Games went a little too close to the Impostors game mode from the start and should have made some more radical changes to make it its own thing truly.
However, it appears that the two companies are on good terms, which means that Fortnite and Among Us fans should be getting some fun crossover content in the future, whatever that may be. What about a Fortnite Crewmate skin?
Amouranth, a popular Twitch streamer, was banned from the streaming site a few days ago with no explanation given. Amouranth posted a video addressing her Twitch ban (which also included Instagram and TikTok bans) and revealed that she wasn’t sure why she was banned this time. While fans still don’t know why Twitch banned Amouranth, her channel has been reopened.
There was some concern that the fifth Amouranth Twitch ban would be permanent, but this has been proven not to be the case. Amouranth’s Twitch ban lasted three days, 35 minutes, and 36 seconds, according to the StreamerBans Twitter account.
Amouranth hinted that if she ever returned to Twitch, there might be a new “meta,” but it’s unclear what she has in store. Amouranth is currently streaming and doing yoga and stretching exercises as of this writing.
Amouranth mentioned the massive Twitch leak that revealed how much streamers were paid in her video about her latest Twitch ban. Amouranth’s payouts were included in the leak, confirming what many people already suspected: she makes a lot of money on the streaming platform.
Amouranth joked in the video that she is on the verge of becoming homeless and that if she was ever allowed back on Twitch, she would need to come up with ideas to increase her subscriber count.
Because Twitch almost never provides concrete answers as to why it bans certain streamers, fans will have to continue to speculate as to what caused this latest ban. This isn’t Amouranth’s first time being banned from Twitch, and it’s always possible that the popular streamer’s channel will be taken down again. However, as long as she follows Twitch’s rules, she should be fine.
Previous Twitch bans have occurred for a variety of reasons, including when Amouranth was performing her controversial and suggestive ASMR streams. Zombies have been a Call of Duty tradition for well over a decade, and the upcoming Call of Duty: Vanguard will carry on that tradition. Treyarch is developing the Call of Duty: Vanguard Zombies mode, which will be a continuation of the Dark Aether storyline from Black Ops Cold War. The list appears to be expanding, as the studios have teased one of Marvel’s most important cosmic characters.
Star-Lord, Drax the Destroyer, Gamora, Groot, and Rocket Raccoon traverse the galaxy several years after a massive intergalactic war in Square Enix’s Guardians of the Galaxy. After being hired for a job, the team causes an accident, which quickly escalates into a chain of events that endangers the galaxy’s safety. While Square Enix and Eidos Montreal have teased several characters and groups for the game, Adam Warlock may be one of the biggest teases yet in the launch trailer. The man thought to be Warlock appears at the end of the trailer, with his trademark glowing eyes, and appears to be hiding. He then inquires about the Church of Universal Truth’s activities, mentioning how it has attracted a “new flock” of followers.
Adam Warlock first appeared in Marvel Comics in Fantastic Four in 1967, but he was only known as Him until 1972 when he was given his full name. Warlock, a creation of Stan Lee and Jack Kirby, is an artificial human who has spent decades traveling the galaxy and weaving in and out of some of Marvel Comics’ most important storylines.
He is best known for his role in 1991’s The Infinity Gauntlet, in which he led the remaining heroes against Thanos and, later, Nebula after the former used the gauntlet to kill half the beings in the galaxy.
The tease is also timely, as Marvel Studios recently confirmed Adam Warlock’s big-screen debut in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. He was first hinted at in the mid-credit scene of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. This version was a creation of the Sovereign to exact revenge on the team for stealing from the genetically engineered race. Will Poulter has been cast in the role of the character.
Pokemon GO debuted more than five years ago. As an augmented reality game, players were able to interact with Pokemon in ways never before possible. While the mobile game may not be as popular as it once was, many players continue to log in on a daily basis to catch Pokemon. Niantic’s developers recently announced an exciting update for the game.
Niantic revealed a slew of new content for Pokemon GO in a blog post on the game’s website. This new update, dubbed Halloween Mischief, focuses on introducing spooky new Pokemon and Evolutions to the game. The event is divided into two parts, according to the developer: Creepy Companions and Ghoulish Pals.
Creepy Companions, Part 1 of this Halloween Mischief event, focuses on Psychic-type and Poison-type Pokemon and runs from October 15 to October 22. The addition of a new Evolution is one of the highlights of the first week of this event.
Players will be able to evolve Galarian Slowpoke into Galarian Slowking once the event begins. Players must set the Galarian Slowpoke as a buddy and catch 30 Psychic-type Pokemon to evolve this Pokemon. While the Halloween Mischief event lasts only two weeks, the Galarian Slowpoke Evolution will remain in the game after the event has ended.
Following the conclusion of Part 1 of the Halloween Mischief event, the developers continue to add new content as Part 2, Ghoulish Pals, introduces never-before-seen Pokemon into the wild. This second half of the event, which runs from October 22 to October 31, increases the chances of encountering Ghost-type Pokemon. Pumpkaboo and Phantump are also being added to the mobile game by the developers.
In addition to these new Pokemon, Evolutions for both new Pokemon are now available. Pumpkaboo can evolve into Gourgeist, and Phantump can evolve into Trevenant. Pumpkaboo is also available in four different sizes in the game.
These are just a few of the highlights of the massive Pokemon GO update. Aside from the new Pokemon and Evolutions, players can also take part in other Halloween-themed events such as the Halloween Cup and a Special Raid Weekend.
There are also Special Research stories about the legendary Pokemon Hoopa. Furthermore, the in-game shop will have several spooky items for avatars, as well as new costumed Pokemon and a spooky theme for Lavender Town. The Halloween Mischief event lasts from October 15 to October 31.
Aside from the upcoming Pokemon GO event, other games have Halloween-themed events planned for the rest of the month. Apex Legends’ Monsters Within event begins today, bringing new cosmetics and the Shadow Royale mode. Furthermore, Call of Duty: Warzone is hosting The Haunting, a Halloween event that is expected to give Verdansk a spooky look and offer new skins such as Ghostface from the Scream franchise.
The revival of the G4 has been one of the most exciting and heartwarming developments in gaming over the last year. A major question about the revival has been when it would actually premiere, but a new video from G4 appears to provide an answer.
G4’s peak popularity was in the mid-2000s, before the rise of YouTube and social media when the network aired a variety of video game-related content. It wasn’t just a place to watch upcoming game gameplay; shows like X-Play were the precursor to modern gaming content, with the hosts discussing industry trends, conducting interviews, and a variety of other activities.
Meanwhile, Attack of the Show broadened the scope of its coverage beyond video games to include film and other forms of digital media. G4’s revival has attracted popular YouTube personalities such as Gina Darling, Jirard “The Completionist” Khalil, and others.
G4 has released a new video confirming the revival’s official premiere date. The video is centered on the premise of “a year of mindblowing gaming products,” such as the Xbox Series X fridge, the Kentucky Fried Chicken KFConsole, and a slew of people attempting to make a quick buck by selling fake PS5s.
This eventually leads to the announcement of the G4’s release date, which will be on November 16, 2021, as the “one big announcement gamers have been asking for.” G4 concludes the video with a witty disclaimer stating that the “network launch date is final,” confirming its announcement and possibly addressing the elephant in the room: the G4 revival timeline.
Aside from the references to some of the year’s more entertaining gaming headlines, the video is also very straightforward about G4 and how it has handled its revival. Just before the launch date is revealed, the video’s narrator admits that gamers have been clamoring for G4’s return because “G4 has been stringing them along for freakin-ever.”
Teasers for G4’s return began in July 2020, when the Attack of the Show! and X-Play social media accounts were reactivated. Since then, new information has trickled in here and there, but the return has a firm date with today’s video.
The tragic closure of G4 in 2014 marked the end of an era in gaming, for better or worse. G4’s content was critical at a time when the internet was still not widely available, and only a few people were truly succeeding in the realm of content creation.
People were turning to YouTube and other news sites for gaming information on their phones and PCs by the time it died, effectively eliminating the need for G4 (at least on TV anyway). With a rebirth as a digital-first network, G4 has the potential to reclaim its former glory and perhaps usher in a new era of gaming content.
The Ace Attorney series celebrates its 20th anniversary today, and while it may not be as financially lucrative as some of Capcom’s other IPs, such as Monster Hunter and Resident Evil, it remains one of the company’s most notable and beloved franchises. While the series has had a few dry spells in its history, the future still looks promising for Ace Attorney fans.
The Great Ace Attorney Chronicles, a duology of games that were originally Japanese exclusives and many thought would never see the light of day in the West, was released this year. And, while there is no sign of an entirely new Ace Attorney game, Capcom is aware of the series’ popularity and considers Ace Attorney important enough to commemorate its anniversary in some way.
As of today, there is a website dedicated to the 20th anniversary of Ace Attorney. It’s only in Japanese, so Western fans will need to use Google Translate or be able to read Japanese to read it. Still, it essentially consists of a celebratory message from the development team, the full list of games and where to buy them, and information about a few projects Capcom has planned for the anniversary.
The first is an art exhibition called Capcom vs. Osamu Tezuka Characters, which displays art of various Capcom characters done by Tezuka Productions (the animation studio founded by Astro Boy creator Osamu Tezuka) and Capcom art of Tezuka characters. The anniversary will feature new Ace Attorney illustrations, but it will unfortunately only be held in Japan.
Second, Capcom’s online store will sell merchandise featuring new art by illustrator Yusuke Nakamura and art director/character designer Kazuya Nuri. The first piece features a stylized depiction of Ace Attorney protagonist Phoenix Wright and his prosecutor rival Miles Edgeworth, as well as Maya Fey and Franziska von Karma. The second depicts the main cast of the Great Ace Attorney games, with Phoenix’s ancestor Ryunosuke Naruhodo in the foreground, surrounded by friends and allies.
They will be available on November 19th and December 17th, respectively, but quantities are limited, and Capcom will only accept pre-orders until October 31st. On the plus side, the Capcom store does ship internationally, so die-hard Western fans who are willing to pay the necessary fees can get their hands on the artwork.
There is also a History section, which is likely to cover the series’ history since its inception in 2001. However, the section is incomplete, consisting of only images of Phoenix, Edgeworth, Ryunosuke, and Apollo Justice, as well as a “coming soon” message.
The website does not indicate whether Capcom is currently working on a new Ace Attorney game. However, a major Capcom leak from last year revealed another Ace Attorney collection that includes the fourth, fifth, and sixth mainline games, as well as Ace Attorney 7 being in development. The same leak revealed Capcom’s plans to localize The Great Ace Attorney, so fans are hoping that the rest of the rumored Ace Attorney plans are correct.
