Overwatch Dataminers Dredged Up Doomfist Summer Games Skin and Other Cosmetics

0
Overwatch Summer Games

Redditor Zenofy, under the alias DocterrificDoc, has unearthed a whole bunch of upcoming Overwatch cosmetic items for the upcoming Summer Games event. And, yes, upcoming (anti-)hero Doomfist is included in the festivities.

Would it be too much to assume that he’s a world-class shot put pro?

At any rate, they’ve confirmed a skin, a few sprays, and over 67 other cosmetic additions prepped — almost definitely things like victory poses, emotes, highlights, voice lines, and others. Here’s what they had listed:

Summer Games

  • Rare Icon
  • Common Spray
  • Common Voice Line
  • Epic/Legendary Skin

Doomfist Launch Cosmetics

Achievements

  • Golden Gun
  • Cute Spray
  • Pixel Spray

General

  • Heroic Victory Pose
  • Heroic Highlight Intro
  • Heroic Emote
  • Highlight Intro(s) (Random)
  • Default Weapon Skin (Non-gold)
  • Default Voice Line
  • Classic Skin

And, yes, there are already demands for specific emotes and skins from the peanut gallery.

To be fair, though: with his villainous background (he murdered his own mentor to take up the Doomfist, for one), it’d probably make sense for him to have a Shadaloo-inspired Street Fighter skin.

There is a LOT to look forward to with Doomfist’s release, especially with that of his voice lines. Just the D.Va voice-over update alone added more character to an unrelated castmember, while Doomfist’s own spoken dialogue will give further glimpses of the world behind the game. Though he is, sadly, not voiced by Terry Crews at all, actor Sahr Ngaujah’s treatment of the brooding international menace has given him a gravitas that his in-game presence will hopefully match.

As he’s apparently set to come out with the Summer Games patch and is already playable on the PTR, we’ll hopefully see Overwatch‘s Doomfist update land within the next week or so.

Evo 2017 Schedule is Out Now: Here’s When to Watch

Evo Schedule

The Evolution Championship Series is the pinnacle of fighting game competition every year, and 2017 should be no different. Playing host to no fewer than five major fighting game circuits, and one of the biggest events of the year for Super Smash Bros, it’s a show you won’t want to miss.

The Evo staff released the schedule for the festivities, with stream times to follow – but this is when you’ll want to be ready to tune in.

Friday, July 14:

Qualifying pools, where players will duke it out and attempt to advance to the upper echelons of the tournament, will kick off at 9 AM Pacific and run through 11 PM Pacific. Seven games will have their pools on Friday, including:

  • Street Fighter V
  • Super Smash Bros Melee
  • Super Smash Bros for Wii U
  • Tekken 7
  • Guilty Gear Xrd: Rev 2
  • Injustice 2
  • King Of Fighters XIV

Exact times and stream schedule will be posted soon. Streams are viewable at a variety of locations, including the Evo Twitch channel, as well as some developer channels like CapcomFighters and Bandai Namco’s Tekken channel. This will be one of the bloodiest days of the tournament, as most players do not advance beyond this point to the upper echelons of Evo placings.

King of Fighters XIV will be played out in its entirety on Friday.

Saturday, July 15

Saturday will see three of the Evo finals play out, in addition to the conclusion of qualifying matches for Sunday’s finale.

Note that the above times are approximate, other than Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3, and are dependent of the preceding event’s runtime.

There are also a number of panels hosted at Evo 2017. These won’t be streamed, but they are typically chock full of information about upcoming DLC for fighting games, and other upcoming fighting game releases. There will be tons of news coming out of these panels, which we’ll be covering here on PVP Live.

Evo 2017 will run from July 14-16 in Las Vegas at the Mandalay Bay Convention Center.

Overwatch Audio Leaks Hint at Possible Space or Jungle Map

0
Overwatch Space

It’s hard to tell from the sound clips that /u/OverwatchSarah compiled whether we’re getting two highly unusual maps or one that hybridizes multiple fantastic themes. But either way, the datamining work done by /u/xArDDe and /u/ethanciavo back in July 2016 still has two distinct categories of audio assets as yet unused on any current map.

Sure, you’ve probably heard all sorts of oddities while roaming ancient Tibetan temples or high-tech Chinese skyscrapers, but not even the wildest Overwatch map to date was thematically appropriate to be accompanied by a musical piece like these:

Nor do we have any jungle-like maps where sounds like these make sense:

However, that’s not to say that they don’t fit Overwatch in general. Because there is at least one place mentioned, if not unexplored, where all of these would make for a singular, thematically coherent map. Said Winston:

Of course, if you’re going to head into space, you probably want environmentally-appropriate gear. Winston’s already halfway into a space suit already — but what about the likes of Hanzo? Or McCree? Can you even design a space helmet that can keep his hat attached?

Come to think of it, a low-gee map would be amazing by concept alone.

Blizzard confirmed their intentions to release new Overwatch maps earlier this week. But no ETA has been set, no assets are yet playable on the PTR, and no — they won’t be at E3. We’ll just have to patiently wait for when they’re ready to talk.

Overwatch Update to Lijiang Tower May Hint at Upcoming Moonbase Map

0
Overwatch Lijiang Tower

If you go into Overwatch right now and run to Lijiang Tower, you’re gonna see a few new things. Things that confirm some long-standing rumors that leaked out of datamines some time ago.

Things like suggestions of an upcoming Moon Base map, as caught by Redditor /u/BillyDiesInTheEnd.

Overwatch Anniversary Lijiang Tower Moonbase

Overwatch Anniversary Lijiang Tower Satellite

Overwatch Anniversary Lijiang Tower Horizon Colony

The biggest tell is the central pillar in the pagoda within the Garden map. Originally, the red rotating banner in the middle is that of a stylized lunar rover and has since been replaced by a satellite blueprint mockup. The one for the Horizon Lunar Colony, meanwhile, used to feature a world map instead.

Those keeping tabs on the Overwatch lore will remember that the lunar colony is basically Winston’s childhood home — the place that he grew up with, alongside his scientist father figure. Also: it’s the place where intelligent apes staged a violent rebellion, kicking out all the humans and claiming the place as their own.

If we’re headed to the moon to check on Winston’s relatives, that probably won’t be the most welcoming reunion ever.

The earlier leaked audio for the map suggests it comes in two forms: the usual electronic whirr and buzz of high-adventure science fiction, complete with the sounds of ray guns and electric fields. But there’s also a subset of sounds that are distinctly more organic, and creepier. It probably makes sense that apes would remodel their lunar home into something more befitting their physiology, after all.

As for an official confirmation, Jeff Kaplan’s recent Q&A; session’s at least a little suggestive.

Q: MOONBASE CONFIRMED!

Jeff: Nonono I didn’t say anything! That’s a killer idea though. People are going to be very excited about the maps that we’re making. And then new gamemodes, we have some ideas…

The arcade has really opened it up. I don’t believe that many new gamemodes belong in Quickplay or Competitive. I really think you want the core of the game to feel like the core of the game, and not like a circus. I don’t think we want a bunch of gimmicks – I think you want Overwatch competitively, to have a certain vibe to it, and it should be more focused on the heroes and less focus on the gamemodes.

Now the arcade has opened the door to where we can really do a lot of fun stuff and you know, you start to see some of that, and there might even be some more cool stuff, with the Anniversary Event.

Sadly, while the Overwatch Anniversary event did bring us a bunch of new skins and 3v3 arena maps, a whole new space map was not part of the works. We’ll have to wait for the next major content push to, hopefully, find out more.

Overwatch: Horizon Lunar Colony Map Released on the PTR

0
Horizon Lunar Colony

The newest Overwatch map is finally here: Horizon Lunar Colony. After being teased on Monday evening in a post by fictional news organization Atlus News, Horizon’s ready for testing on the PTR.

The Horizon Lunar Colony, as fans may remember, was Winston’s birthplace. Here, a group of monkeys and apes were given gene therapy, which made them hyper-intelligent. But apparently, not all went according to plan, as Horizon has been silent for quite some time.

Now, communications with the base are reestablished (as we saw on Lijiang Tower, and was hinted at in datamined audio), and it’s up to attacking and defending teams to battle for control of the station while finding clues about what happened to the scientists.

Check out the first screenshots of the map:

ovr_beautyshots_moonhorizon_tf_053_v2-9859139

ovr_beautyshots_moonhorizon_tf_039-9934685

Overwatch director Jeff Kaplan has said previously that there are six maps in the works, with this being the fourth, though this is the first map to join the regular rotation. Horizon joins the three Elimination maps that were released at the onset of the Overwatch Anniversary event: Castillo, Black Forest, and Necropolis.

It’s highly possible there are some hints contained in the map about the next Overwatch hero as well, as Jeff Kaplan suggestively said that the next hero is “just over the Horizon” during an interview. As the preview post said, there were strange sounds coming from the vents of Horizon – and Specimen 8, Hammond, is missing. He’s a “smaller” experimental subject, perhaps small enough to fit in the vents.

Horizon likely won’t hit live servers during the Overwatch Anniversary event, set to wrap up on June 12, but you’re able to test it right now by downloading the PTR, through clicking on the region drop-down menu in the Blizzard Launcher. Get to work, Overwatch supersleuths.

Overwatch PTR Patch 1.12 Introduces Reaper Changes and Nerfs Roadhog’s Burst Damage

0
Overwatch PTR Patch

Blizzard has just updated Overwatch’s PTR with Patch 1.12, which revamped Reaper’s passive ability and nerfed Roadhog’s burst damage significantly. The only other hero that received an adjustment was McCree, lowering the lock-in time of Deadeye and increasing its damage build-up. Most notably, however, Blizzard uploaded Overwatch’s latest map, Horizon Lunar Colony, onto the Public Test Realm for playtesting.

You can download Overwatch’s PTR Patch 1.12 now on PC.

New Assault Map: Horizon Lunar Colony

Built as a first step towards humanity’s renewed exploration of space, the Horizon Lunar Colony’s goal was to examine the effects of prolonged extraterrestrial habitation—on human and ape alike. The scientists’ research proved incredibly promising…until, suddenly, all contact and communications with the base were lost.

New Legendary Skins

  • Oni Genji and Officer D.Va have been added to classic loot boxes.

Custom Games and Game Browser

  • Player gravity and projectile gravity can now be modified.
  • Knockback magnitude can now be modified on any weapons or abilities that have a knockback effect.
  • Jump height can now be modified.

Hero Updates

ow-dividers-mccree-1057681

Deadeye

  • Targets now begin locking on after 0.2 seconds, instead of 0.8 seconds.
  • Damage accumulated over the first 1.0 seconds increased from 20 to 80 (damage per second after the first 1.0 seconds is unchanged).

Developer Comment: McCree’s ultimate can deal a lot of damage if it has a lot of time to build up, but it was often too difficult to get even a small amount of damage out before being stopped or killed. These changes make it more flexible and powerful.

ow-dividers-reaper-6199171

The Reaping (Passive)

  • Removed health orbs.
  • Now regains 20% of all damage done to heroes as health.

Developer Comment: Reaper’s old healing passive was useful if you could kill a bunch of enemies in a row. But since enemies needed to be dead for it to work, it wasn’t very helpful unless the situation was already in your favor. His new passive lets him get immediate benefit from it, especially when fighting Tank heroes, which tend to be larger targets that deal lower damage.

ow-dividers-roadhog-5619033

  • Head hitbox size reduced by 20%

Scrap Gun

  • Bullet damage decreased by 33%.
  • Fire rate increased by 30%.
  • Clip size increased from 4 to 5.

Developer Comment: Roadhog’s head was abnormally large compared to similarly-sized characters, so we’re reducing its size to increase his survivability. The Scrap Gun changes reduce the power of his hook combo and alternate fire burst damage potential while still keeping his DPS roughly the same.

User Interface

  • A quick summary of each player’s most-played heroes is now available by highlighting the player in the Groups section of the Social menu (statistics displayed will dynamically change based on the mode/ruleset).
  • A new “All Modes” option has been added to the Career Profile that allows players to view combined stats from all game modes.
  • A new “All Competitive Seasons” option has been added to the Career Profile that allows players to view combined stats from all Completive Play seasons.
  • The “Damage Done” statistic has been replaced with “Hero Damage Done” in multiple locations.
  • A new “Barrier Damage Done” statistic has been added to the Statistics section of the Career Profile, as well as an “All Damage Done” statistic, which combines damage done to barriers and heroes.
  • Averages are now calculated in 10-minute slices, rather than by the number of games played
  • “Rate This Match” option no longer appears at the end of a match.

Developer Comment: The new “Hero Damage Done” statistic is the same as the old “Damage Done” statistic, but it doesn’t include damage done to barriers, only damage against heroes and placed objects (e.g. Torbjörn’s turret). That number can be found in the new “Barrier Damage Done” or “All Damage Done” statistics. However, since “Hero Damage Done” and “Barrier Damage Done” are brand new, their averages will only be based on time played since they were added.

Also, the old statistics were calculated by taking total damage inflicted and dividing it by the number of games played. This resulted in an average that didn’t accurately reflect the underlying performance because it didn’t take into account the length of the games. The new averages are calculated in 10-minute slices.

Everything We Know About the PhantomL0rd Scandal Leading into the Lawsuit

0
PhantomL0rd

A lawsuit against James ‘PhantomL0rd’ Varga and PhantomL0rd Inc. has been filed.

As you may know, the catalyst that sparked this inclusion into the class action lawsuit was the hacked Skype logs given to Richard Lewis.

The logs imply Varga, Joris Dahau, and CSGO personality cAre as the owners behind CSGO Shuffle. Without ever confirming ownership, Varga and cAre continually “promoted” the site. In reality, they — as well as popular streamer Dinglederper — were attracting users to the site rigging bets against them.

What’s more, the Skype logs indicated FaZe ownership of CSGO Wild as well as Vulcun’s reach into the Counter-Strike gambling scene.

Varga’s significant other Tory, better known as Dinglederper, has come out to state that she had only acted a promoter of CSGO Shuffle — through the Skype logs seem to indicate her as knowing more about the inner workings.

Phantom has not spoken on the issue himself as of yet and when his business partner cAre reached out to the community to speak about the gambling site, the French CSGO personality failed to follow through.

You can find the full timeline of the PhantomL0rd fiasco here.

Though advised to keep a low-profile, Varga fills his Snapchat with Vegas parties and his lavish lifestyle.

The same law firm, Jones Ward, that filed a class action against Valve, CSGO Lotto, and OPSKINS amongst others now includes James ‘PhantomL0rd’ Varga, PhantomL0rd Inc., CSGO Shuffle, Trevor ‘TmarTn’ Martin, and Thomas ‘ProSyndicate’ Cassell according to Legal Newsline.

Jones Ward remains as one of the lead firms against Draft Kings and FanDuel dealing with extremely similar online betting. They seem to be well equipped to achieve the best results for the community behind the class action.

A group of more than 30 consumers is suing multiple companies, alleging violation of Washington state and federal gambling laws…

According to the complaint, the plaintiffs suffered damages from having valve’s steam users able to participate in online gambling. The plaintiffs allege the defendants allowed users under the age of 21 to participate in online gambling despite being aware of this illegal practice.

Users have probably only been affected by only one or two of these sites and grouping them together may seem unjust; however if the case goes ahead to a jury trial, the select few will go entity-by-entity to determine who-did-what.

Here are the Overwatch Competitive Season 3 Rewards

0
Overwatch Season 3

The rewards for Overwatch Competitive Season 3 are coming your way soon. Each season, according to Blizzard, should last around “two and a half months” making room for four competitive seasons a year.

It’s almost time for those two and a half months to end and the rewards for the third Overwatch competitive season shouldn’t come as a surprise — players will be receiving a Player Icon, Spray, and Competitive Points.

What’s more, players that enter into the Top 500 will be invited into the (unofficial) professional Overwatch Discord where they could have a chance to get signed by professional teams.

According to an image Metabomb ripped from the PTR, this season’s rewards are Volskaya themed.

overwatch competitive season 3 rewards

Competitive Points

Competitive Point rewards are tied to your seasonal rank, as was with Season 2, and you may spend them on golden weapon skins for whichever characters you choose. At the moment, golden weapons are the only reward you are able to spend points on. However, Overwatch’s Game Director Jeff Kaplan stated that they “would like to add some more rewards to the system.”

Unfortunately, the most dedicated competitive players may run into the competitive point cap:

“New items are not going to happen at all for Season 3. Probably not for Season 4 either. And if you’re active, you’ll hit that 6000cp cap before we add new stuff.”

For most players, a golden weapon will signify their main character as each one costs a hefty 3000 competitive points. Though if you’re a competitive Overwatch badass and have been finishing each season in the higher tiers of play, you may already have the golden weapons for your favorite characters.

If that’s the case you’ll likely be aiming to collect other characters’ golden guns you want to improve with or simply spending points so you aren’t constantly capped out.

In a competitive fashion, players are rewarded in higher increments for higher skill ratings. Bronze players should receive 100 points while Grandmaster players should be receiving 3000 points. Below is the reward distribution for Overwatch Competitive Season 2.

overwatch competitive season 3 rewards

The point gains may change at Blizzard’s discretion.

Seasonal Spray and Icon

Every player should receive a spray and icon themed around Volskaya as a reward for competing in Overwatch’s third season. The first competitive season rewards were designed around Ilios while the second season was Route 66-centric.

Season 4’s reward theme should be marked when the Overwatch team releases their official announcement to highlight the end of Season 3 and further changes to the mode.

In addition, players grinding into the Grandmaster ratings may want to push even harder before the season ends. Competitive players in the Top 500 will receive rewards unique to the powerful few.

Not only will the Top 500 Overwatch players receive the unique player icon, they’ll also be rewarded with an animated version of the Season 3 Spray. Below is an example of the first season’s animated Spray.

overwatch competitive season 3 rewards

Every season’s brought changes to Overwatch’s competitive game mode, from reworking the skill ratings after Season 1 to adjusting the effect of placement matches after Season 2 — the end of Season 3 should be no different.

Overwatch Season 3 End Date Announced

0
Overwatch Season 3

I hope you’ve been working on getting that SR up as high as it can go, as the Overwatch team has announced the official end date for the third competitive season: February 21st.

Season 4 will begin just one week later, on February 28th.

Here’s Blizzard on the rewards, which include a player icon, competitive points used to purchase golden weapons, and a spray:

If you completed your placement matches during Season 3, you will eligible to receive a special spray and player icon. These will be unlocked automatically when you log into your account the first time after the season ends. If at any point during the season you managed to break into the Top 500 players on your platform (and in your region), you’ll receive an extra player icon and animated spray on top of the other seasonal rewards.

Aside from sprays and icons, you’ll also receive a number of Competitive Points based on the maximum skill rating you achieved during the season.

Here’s the Skill Rating (SR) to Competitive Point (CP) breakdown for Season 3:

SR 1-1499 (Bronze): 100 CP

SR 1500-1999 (Silver): 200 CP

SR 2000-2499 (Gold): 400 CP

SR 2500-2999 (Platinum): 800 CP

SR 3000-3499 (Diamond): 1200 CP

SR 3500-3999 (Master): 2000 CP

SR 4000-5000 (Grandmaster): 3000 CP

The rewards, which were previously datamined, include these icons:

There are some things you should be doing before the competitive season ends, to make sure you can climb as high as you can go – namely, stop queueing up with your friends, and try to group with as few people as possible so you won’t run into premade groups. If you try and become a leader for the groups you end up gaming with, your success and coordination in Overwatch should be much better.

PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds Cosmetics

Bluehole is still improving the stability of the game, its infrastructure, as well as adding new weapons and vehicles, but we’re going to see a new batch of cosmetic items drop into PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds sometime in the coming weeks.

Reddit user DevinWatson datamined the most recent patch for the game and found over 50 new cosmetic items in-the-works. There were no weapon skins present in the game files, but DevinWatson found plenty of new options to gear out your character.

There’s no information that points to these items being part of Battlegrounds’ planned microtransactions, but this could be Bluehole’s first batch. On the same thread, they may include these into a new Pioneer Crate, so don’t go dumping all your Credits just yet.

We’ve selected the more interesting cosmetic items, but you can find the full album here.

Starting off strong: a full suit of tactical armor was found, but there’s no easy explanation of why it would be introduced into the game.

pubgdatamine5-3061449

Bluehole could take the route of adding an even higher class of armor, but that doesn’t seem likely. This may be a specific armor set exclusive to custom games, but there’s no custom game mode or anything in-game to reasonably tie it to.

Next up is a piece of chest armor with a spiked shoulder pad.

pubgdatamine-6678144

The PUBG developers have never mentioned their intention to add skins to player armor, but this may very well be the case. This notion is further evidenced by the backpack skins (or new backpack look) that were also found.

pubgdatamine2-1628369

In addition to these skins, DevinWatson also found plenty of simpler cosmetic choices: skirts, shirts, jackets, gas masks, and goggles.

pubgdatamine3-9857730

But more interestingly, Bluehole might also be introducing new forms of boosters or healing items. There’s a fiber cloth in the game files as well as an apple, both of which could act as small boosters. It’s not so outlandish having the apple as a booster when you consider the fact that you can consume an Energy Drink to regain health over time.

pubgdatamine6-7853898

Obviously, there’s no expected release time since these items were found through a datamine. That said, because these items were already in PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds game files, the developers can flip the switch to make them available in-game at any time.
