Many existing service games hold events to commemorate holidays and special occasions throughout the entire year, and one of the more notable inclusions following the overloaded December holiday season is Valentine’s Day. Call of Duty Black Ops Cold War revealed a Valentines-inspired Kiss Confirmed time-limited game mode a few days ago, and Pokemon Go likewise gave its fans what they can look forward to encounter during its yearly holiday event this year.
The Pokemon Go Valentine’s Day event last year added Gen 5 Pokemon Alomomola and Audino while cycling other alluring Pokemon with pink color schemes into Eggs, Raids, overworld encounters, and Field Research rewards.
Past years were likewise themed with Pokemon such as Chansey, Clefairy, and Smoochum, and the 2021 event will be taking place from February 14 to February 18 which will revolve around Psychic Pokemon Musharna and Munna.
It is peculiar that these two Unova Pokemon are being limelighted this year considering the game just started adding Kalos-based Pokemon back in December, opening the opportunity to Fairy-type representatives like Slurpuff and Armoatisse. However, developer Niantic has gone all-out with cosmetic avatar items and event-exclusive stickers, providing players access to gear appropriate for the dreamy Pokemon.
Aside from those two new additions, the developers confirmed in a recent post that this year’s Valentine’s Day event will also feature paired Pokemon like Minun and Plusle or Illumise and Volbeat in the wild, and Pokemon such as Woobat, Luvdisc, and Eevee hatching from Eggs.
The more lucky Pokemon Go trainers can also find Feebas in the wild, evolve Kirlia to get a Gallade or Gardevoir with the unique move Synchronoise, and finish Field Research challenges to have the chance to encounter a Spinda with a heart pattern.
Most of the abovementioned Pokemon will also be appearing in Raid Battles, with this breakdown:
- One-Star Raids: Ralts, Volbeat, Illumise, Feebas, Munna, and Espurr
- Three-Star Raids: Togetic, Espeon, Umbreon, Gardevoir, Gallade, and Alomomola
- Five-Star Raids: Latias and Latios
- Mega Raids: Pidgeot, Gyarados, and Ampharos
Aside from all of these will be a Valentine’s Day Collection Challenge asking players to capture 12 various Pokemon, such as Latios and Latias. In addition, there will also be a one-time bundle in the in-game shop containing three Remote Raid Passes, and active bonuses like the better probability to become Lucky Friends as well as increased trading range.
