If you’ve been a long-time fan of Ubisoft, you know by now that its open-world games have connecting characteristics. For instance, you know at this point that you can look forward to tight combat and enemy outposts, along with many points of interest.
What we’re trying to say is that if you play one Ubisoft title, you learn how to play all of them. That being said, two of the biggest franchises by Ubisoft have more in common than others.
Through a new post-launch content trailer, a Ubisoft member revealed that yet another character from Assassin’s Creed will be featured in Watch Dogs Legion. If you get the game’s season pass, you will ultimately unlock “Bloodline,” which is a story-driven tie-in that stars characters from the past Watch Dogs titles.
More specifically, players will be able to make use of Aiden Pierce, who is the protagonist for the first game, as well as Wrench, who is the sociable masked hacker from the second game.
What’s more, Watch Dogs Legion will apparently introduce a character named Darcy, who happens to be a member of the Assassin’s Order which you may know from the Assassin’s Creed series.
That said, Ubisoft hasn’t said anything about how this crossover will affect both game series. Is Darcy’s appearance simply a fun cameo, or is this an indication that Watch Dogs and Assassin’s Creed have a canonical connection?
In any case, this wouldn’t be the first time that these two games had a crossover. In fact, this has been happening ever since the first Watch Dogs installment. In one of the missions you can complete there, you’re assigned to take down someone named Olivier Garneau, a CCO for a company known as Abstergo.
When the mission begins, you hear Aiden say that Garneau is involved in some sketchy business, such as “patented genomes” and “genetic memory manipulation,” among other things. This definitely seems like something from Assassin’s Creed.
If that’s not enough proof, the mission’s title is “Requiescat in Pace,” which is a line commonly said by Ezio Auditore, the main character of three Assassin’s Creed titles. Not only that, but Garneau and Abstergo are Assassin’s Creed references as well.
Garneau made an appearance in the modern parts of 2013’s Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag. During these portions of the title, you are able to snoop around the headquarters of Abstergo, which is the supposed evil organization in the world of Assassin’s Creed.
In the process of poking around, you end up learning that Garneau was known to frequently travel to Chicago, which is where Aiden Pierce is located as well. Fast forward to 2017’s Assassin’s Creed Origins and we meet Layla Hassan, who was once an employee of Abstergo.
If you check her laptop, you’ll come across evidence showing the deaths of important individuals in the modern-day storyline. Among the departed, you’ll find the name of Olivier Garneau.
In other news, Ubisoft also revealed that Watch Dogs Legion’s multiplayer mode will go live on December 3. You and other players will be able to take part in co-op missions as you roam around London.
