Super Meat Boy Forever Is Set To Release This Month

Super Meat Boy Forever by Team Meat has been in development for nearly six years, and now the highly-anticipated title is finally getting released this month. In a recent tweet, developer and publisher Team Meat revealed that the sequel to Super Meat Boy is launching on the Epic Games Store next week.

Announced in 2014, Super Meat Boy Forever was initially meant to be a mobile game. However, Team Meat made a lot of changes and adjustments to the game during its development since then.

The developer regretfully had to announce the game’s delay last year, saying that the title just wasn’t ready yet and required more time to be fully polished and improved. Now, in a surprising turn of events, it appears that the title is ready and excited fans will finally get to experience this sequel very soon.

Last week hosted a big day for gamers worldwide, as The Game Awards 2020 showcased a ton of exciting announcements and reveals for the community to pore over and celebrate. An annual event founded by Geoff Keighley, the big night awarded and recognized a variety of video games for their achievements.

The Game of the Year award went to Naughty Dog’s The Last of Us Part II. Along with the award-giving though, The Game Awards also debuted several news and trailers that have never been released before. There were different anticipated content reveals for different games as well, including Among Us, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, Fall Guys, and Fortnite.

On the other hand, it revealed the release dates for upcoming games such as Disco Elysium: The Final Cut and Returnal. That being said, arguably the most awaited part of The Game Awards was probably when we were given a sneak peek at highly-awaited titles like Dragon Age and Mass Effect.

The excitement fans felt during that big event was essentially the same when Team Meat announced Super Meat Boy Forever’s release date on Twitter. The tweet states that the game is set to launch next week on the Epic Games Store, specifically on December 23, 2020.

Team Meat’s tweet was straight to the point and somewhat admonishing in its tone. The “told you so” message appears to be meant for those fans who were hesitant to believe that Super Meat Boy Forever would be released this year after the game’s delay was announced last year.

Along with the tweet comes a seconds-long trailer showcasing the game and what players can expect from it — and it definitely looks intense and action-packed. Down in the tweet’s replies, Team Meat also provides a link to the game’s listing on the Epic Games Store which gives a 10% discount to those who preorder the game.

That being said, many may be excited to finally experience Super Meat Boy Forever, but the developer may encounter a bit of backlash for its choice of debut platform. See, the Epic Games Store has had a bit of controversy before due to its exclusivity.

Fortunately, fans have begun easing up on the digital platform as time went on, so Team Meat may not be bombarded with too many angry fans after all.
