‘Pokemon Go’ receives new Mega Evolution update

Pokemon Go is getting a new feature this week. Niantic is releasing the much-awaited Mega Evolutions as well as new gameplay focused on how players can get the most out of this new feature.

What is a Mega Evolution?

Only a few Pokemon can undergo Mega Evolutions. It allows players to power up their Pokemon and takes on a unique temporary form. In the main Pokemon games, Mega Evolutions can only be triggered during a battle. In addition, the Pokemon should also be holding the appropriate Mega Stone in order to evolve into its advanced form.

Once in its Mega Evolved state, the Pokemon’s appearance will transform and will gain a massive stat boost. Under this form, the Pokemon will also receive a new typing and ability. For example, Charizard becomes a Fire/Dragon-type when it undergoes Mega Evolution and becomes Mega Charizard X.

How to Mega Evolve in Pokemon Go?

Mega Evolution works differently in Pokemon Go. Instead of using a Mega Stone, players will need to gather a new item called Mega Energy to Mega Evolve their partners. Players can get this item by joining Mega Raid Battles which means they have to beat a Mega Evolved Pokemon. Beating the boss faster will generate more Mega Energy rewards.

Once a player has enough Mega Energy, they can Mega Evolve their chosen Pokemon. For Pokemon Go, Pokemon who have undergone Mega Evolution will remain in that state even when they are outside of battle but only for a limited time.

This means players will be able to see their Mega Evolved Pokemon following them on the map, take snapshots and even use them against other players and Raids. After a Pokemon Mega Evolves, the Mega Energy requirement for the next Mega Evolution will significantly decrease. This allows players to Mega Evolve their Pokemon quickly next time.

However, there are a few restrictions players will need to have in mind about Mega Evolutions. Pokemon in Mega Evolved form are not allowed to be left to defend a Gym. Aside from this, only one Pokemon can be Mega Evolved. Mega Evolving another Pokemon will revert the first into its original form.

What are the benefits of Mega Evolution?

A Mega Evolved Pokemon will receive a massive stat boost which will make them more powerful in battles. However, having a Mega Evolved Pokemon will also benefit other players as well.

Brining a Mega Evolved Pokemon into a Raid Battle will grant other player’s Pokemon with a stat boost as well. In addition, Pokemon moves that have the same type as the Mega Evolved Pokemon will also receive a damage boost.

Mega Evolution Special Research

In addition to the Mega Raids feature, the developers are also launching a new Special Research quest called “A Mega Discovery” to Pokemon Go this week. After completing the quest, players will receive plenty of rewards such as Beedrill Mega Energy which can be used to Mega Evolve a Beedrill.

 

‘Pokemon Go’ Community Days will feature Porygon and Charmander

Niantic previously announced that the featured Pokemon for September and October’s Pokemon Go Community Day will be determined through voting. This time, Pokemon Go players got to choose from four monsters with unique movesets which includes:

  • Caterpie with Hurricane as exclusive move
  • Grimer with Fire Punch as exclusive move
  • Charmander with Dragon Breath as exclusive move
  • Porygon with Tri Attack as exclusive move

After one whole day of voting, the poll held on social media site Twitter came to an end. The two Pokemon who garnered the most votes was Porygon and Charmander. Next month, trainers will have the chance to catch Porygon in the overworld.

This Pokemon can be evolved to its rarer forms including Porygon2 and Porygon-Z. if Porygong evolves into Porygon-Z during the Community Day event, it will learn the exclusive move Tri Attack.

In Pokemon Go, Tri Attack is a charged move that lowers the enemy’s attack and defense.

Charmander

In October, players will be able to encounter one of the franchise’s most favorite Pokemon, Charmander. Letting this Pokemon evolve during October’s Community Day will let it learn the exclusive Dragon-type move, Dragon Breath.

Dragon Breath is a fast move that gives Charizard an advantage when fighting against Dragon-type Pokemon. Players should also take note that Charizard has two Mega Evolutions – a Fire and Dragon-type. This might also be the reason why the Pokemon gathered a lot of votes during the poll.

Fortnite Chapter 2, Season 4 is almost upon us. However, the details for the new season are still a mystery to everyone. While the previous seasons have revealed teasers ahead of their release, the new season offered an entire comic strip that an upcoming Marvel crossover is in the works.

Before the season starts in a few days, here is everything fans should know about Fortnite’s new season:

Season 4 launch date

Epic Games, Fortnite’s developers, have announced that Season 4 will officially launch on August 27, 2020, Thursday.

The developers revealed the new season’s release date via a blog post which also talked about the upcoming Free Fortnite competition. The competition is another bold move from the developers to pressure Google and Apple by giving away exclusive rewards. The tournament was held last August 23, Sunday.

Since the legal dispute between Epic Games and mobile giants Google and Apple began, the developers utilized the upcoming launch of Season 4 to encourage its players to complain about its removal from the App Store.

For now, the game will not be playable on iOS devices but will still be available for Android users thanks to other downloadable options aside from the Google Play Store.

Season 4 theme

Every trailer released points out at that Fortnite Season 4 will have a massive crossover with Marvel.

Rumors started circulating online when Fortnite posted a hammer emoji, lightning bolt, and rainbow on their official Twitter account. The emojis represented Thor’s weapon, his powers, and the Bifrost – Asgard’s rainbow.

The new Fortnite logo posted along with the tweet revealing Season 4’s launch date also included a photo of Thor. It seems the photo is taken from the Norse superhero’s first comic book which was released a few months ago.

Fortnite has had a few crossovers with superheroes in its past seasons. This includes heroes from both DC and Marvel to promote movie releases thus, a Thor crossover event wouldn’t be much of a surprise.

Aside from Thor, data miners also claim that the new season will also feature a Wolverine skin and collectible comic book pages scattered around the map.

New Battle Pass

Epic Games haven’t confirmed anything yet but rumors revealed that the Fortnite Season 4 Battle Pass will contain Thor’s special skin similar to the ones with Aquaman and Deadpool.

As usual, the Battle Pass will be available to purchase as soon as the new season is released. The Battle Pass costs 2,800 V-bucks which can be bought for $19.99.

 

‘Heart of Deimos’ Expansion for Warframe Now Available

Warframe’s third open-world expansion is finally here, filled with new features, new modes of transportation, new enemies, and so much more. It’s currently available on PC, Xbox One, and PS4. However, it will be available on the Nintendo Switch later within the week.

What we’re most excited about in this expansion is the Cambion Drift, which is the new open-world area. You can explore the area and collect new resources as well as interact with the creatures there called the Entrati. In fact, these beings will be the ones who give you missions and quests to do, which will assist them with their research.

You will want to make progress with your interactions with the Entrati, though, since this will unlock the “Helminth Segment for your Orbiter.” In turn, this will also unlock new customization options for your Warframe.

Another thing you can get with the Heart of Deimos expansion is a new broken Warframe, Xaku. Fun fact: Xaku is gender-neutral and was designed by the game community. According to Warframe’s official website, “Xaku and their Abilities revolve around their connection to the Void, passively granting a 25% chance of evading projectiles, buffing Weapons and stealing enemy firepower.”

The perks players choose when playing Call of Duty: Warzone can have major implications in achieving that overly satisfying victory. From perks that let players disappear under the radar to seeing where enemies have been, choosing the appropriate perk that will match your playstyle will make your performance better in-game.

Here are the best perks from the current season of Call of Duty: Warzone:

Double Time

Double Time is a must equip perk for players who are not resorting for an RPG build during the late game. This perk duplicates Tactical Sprint’s duration which will allow players to get in and out of battle. This perk naturally reduces the time in between battles thus allowing the player to engage in long gunfights and senses on high alert.

Additionally, it’s ideal for tactical players too. The perk improves crouch movement speed by 30%. Pairing this perk with Tracker then snooping around buildings with an SMG in hand will feel moving like normal movement.

Ghost

The Ghost perk makes players invisible to UAV’s Radar Drones and Heartbeat sensors that players usually use to scan buildings before entering them.

This perk provides multiple advantages especially in the late game where enemies usually unleash all their UAVs and killstreaks that they have gathered during the entire match. Having the ability to remain hidden provides players to implement advanced strategies such as using a teammate as bait.

Overkill

Overkill is perfect for players who are not interested in pistols or RPG tactics. This perk is for those who don’t have a particular playstyle or resort to only one weapon.

The Overkill perk allows players to carry two primary weapons. However, it doesn’t allow the use of secondary weapons. Choosing this perk will allow players to snipe on rooftops or dominate the close-range game with an RPG in seconds.

Tracker

Apex Legends who have resorted to Bloodhound will love this perk. The Tracker perk will let players see a footprint trail left behind by enemy players. This makes it easier to locate and will also let you see where enemies have been killed.

However, its most useful feature is preventing the enemy team from detecting the location of their teammate’s death which allows the user to kill multiples enemies at once.

E.O.D

In the past seasons of Call of Duty: Warzone, no one ever wanted to choose defensive perks. However, because of the current Warzone meta where everyone spams RPGs, the E.O.D. perk is now a must-have.

The E.O.D lessens the damage taken from explosives which makes RPG blasts far less lethal. This allows players to strike back against players who are always camping on rooftops.

The perk will not save players from explosives gained from killstreaks but once a player becomes comfortable with this, seeing a grenade icon in their Warzone screens will be less worrisome.

Scavenger

Aside from getting armor and cash, one of the most valuable items in Warzone is ammo. While ammo is scattered around the map, every gunfight you’ll engage in will drain your stock.

There’s not much you can do when your gun runs out of bullets. This is why equipping the Scavenger perk is advantageous since it lets players pick up ammo from killing enemies.

 

Proceeds for Children of Morta: Paws and Claws DLC Go to Charity

Imagine a fantasy RPG game about a family of heroes who fight against the looming darkness. Sounds awesome, right? Now imagine that scenario but with lots of animals. That’s what you’ll be getting with Children of Morta’s Paws and Claws DLC. What makes this DLC more amazing is the fact that 100% of the proceeds will go to the Humane Society International charity.

Children of Morta is an action, hack-and-slash RPG where you have to play as the Bergson family. The game deals with themes of love, loss, longing, and more, as they battle monsters.

Now, this new DLC called Paws and Claws has added a completely new and cute feature to this somewhat dark game. For one thing, you can feed and care for the animals in the newly-added Animal Shelter.

Regarding this new release, the game producer Karol Kała stated:

“Paws and Claws is the kind of content that embraces the meaningfulness that we’re often pouring into our games. Animals are a big part of the original Children of Morta story, so enriching relationships with them in the game felt natural. And collaborating with an organization like Humane Society International perfectly fits 11 bit studios’ mindset since we believe that a company producing meaningful games should also act meaningfully.”

That being said, the key features of Paws and Claws include:

  • Animal Shelter System which adds a whole new section of the house!
  • A herd of varied animals visited the family’s house: Deer, fox, birds and more.
  • New mechanic wherein you use treats to feed animals and look after them.
  • New special animal-related boosts (XP Gain, Movement Speed and more) available for the Bergsons.
  • New Home Interactive Events
  • More than 100 new animations, big and small, showing you the life of your new animal friends!

If you’re a fan of cyberpunk-themed games, then this is your chance to grab Magrunner: Dark Pulse on Steam while it’s still free. The game will be free only until August 28, 2020, so it’s best to go get it now.

Gamespot describes it as a technology meets Cthulu type of game, and it makes a lot of sense. Magrunner can be nostalgic for many seasoned gamers, as the gameplay is reminiscent of Portal and its first-person gaming experience. The game has been well-received by many; in fact, it has received a lot of good ratings.

Magrunner: Dark Pulse is set in space, and you play as Dax who was selected to participate in a training program by MagTech Corp. However, things did not go as planned and now Dax is faced with a horrific nightmare.

You are equipped with a MagTech glove, which gives you the ability to “magnetically polarize and manipulate” items within your immediate surroundings in order to survive the many challenges thrown your way.

Getting to game is super easy: all you need is a Steam account. After logging in, simply go to the game’s Steam page and you will see the option to add the game to your account – completely free of charge! From there, you can proceed to installing the game to your computer or laptop.

Even though it’s a relatively old game by now, there’s no harm in trying it out especially if you’re into puzzle solving. After all, who can resist free games?

 

Red Dead Online Still Overshadowed by GTA Online Success

After a lot of fan outcry and disappointment, Rockstar has released the Naturalist update for Red Dead Online which adds a new role and some new content. This update was not enough to satisfy fan demands.

The Red Dead Online community is restless. The major problems in the game seem to run deep, especially when compared to Rockstar’s online juggernaut, Grand Theft Auto Online.

Red Dead Online VS GTA Online

It is clear that the frontier roles are the main focus of Red Dead Online’s gameplay. These are different paths that a player can take when playing that have specific bonuses and perks attached to them, for example, a Trader delivers supplies and has a camp dog, while a Bounty Hunter brings in outlaws and can learn gun specific skills and tricks.

The frontier roles are not exactly the same, however, there are some gameplay actions that are common between them, for example, riding to a mission location, killing a bunch of people, then riding to a mission-complete location.

When a dynamic event occurs like roadside robberies or a man in need of help to save his wife, it makes the game feel a lot less of a grind and more like a living breathing world. They don’t spawn often enough though, especially when riding off-road.

The Naturalist Frontier role attempts to add some much-needed diversity to the gameplay by giving a choice between two sides. If you choose to work for the pacifist Harriet, you would tranquilize or track animals and study them to get unique rewards and the Animal Reviver skill, while choosing the retired hunter Gus would get you to collect animal parts, skins, and hides to obtain unique and rare clothes and accessories that also have unique buffs. But it does not seem to matter that much which side you choose because Harriet will still give quests even if you kill every animal in the frontier after waiting out a timer.

Red Dead Online’s early stages tease that choice really matters by having quests that end in moral choices. One such mission is a choice of whether to return a woman to her abusive husband or to help her escape with her new lover. As you get deeper into the game it becomes clear that ultimately, honor as an outlaw does not mean that much. These quests are also short.

The Naturalist update is perfectly fine, but after the novelty of some new characters, it does not make a huge impact on the overall experience in Red Dead Online.

Grand Theft Auto Online in comparison has many more layers when it comes to content. Starting as a low-level drug runner and working up the criminal ladder eventually owning numerous illicit businesses.

There is always something else to unlock, a new apartment to plan heists in, or a luxury car to show of to your friends. These businesses unlock further progression and special missions specific to the type of businesses.

GTA Online feels more varied than Red Dead Online. Selling counterfeit cash with some friends feels entirely different from doing the Diamond Casino Heist or stealing some cars solo and selling them to the highest bidder.

Red Dead Online has many frontier roles that task players to deliver wagons, find shiny objects, or take pictures of animals, but they all feel too similar and have less diversity compared to GTA online’s activities.

The developers of GTA Online have branched out, always experimenting with new mechanics and missions while over at Red Dead Online they are doubling down on the frontier roles. Rockstar just continues to put new layers on ultimately the same experience.

Red Dead can never be another GTA Online. The midwest low-tech setting limits where they can go. If they want to regain some footing, There need to be new and elaborate ways for players to progress and spend time in the world of Red Dead Online.

 

‘The Sinking City’ Removed From Steam and Other Stores

Released only last year, the Lovecraftian game The Sinking City can no longer be found on Steam and other storefronts such as on Xbox One, Epic Games Store, and on the PlayStation 4. In relation to this, Frogwares, the developer of the game, has released an open letter explaining the reason for this:

“The reason is a bit complicated, yet at the same time, quite simple. Short version: We were forced to terminate the contract with our licensee for several breaches of our agreement. “

The rest of the statement also further discusses the legal battle between Frogwares and Nacon, the publishers for The Sinking City who recently merged with BigBen Interactive.

“During production, BBI/Nacon was hundreds and hundreds of days behind in payments in total. Each sum due on average being 40 days late, while our milestones were always on time and approved by the licensee. We had to issue formal notices multiple times so that we were able to receive the money that was owed to us.

The lack of commitment to honor the financial obligations soon turned into ongoing pressure. Once BBI/Nacon bought out a competing studio working on another Lovecraftian game, they dictated that we give them our source code for The Sinking City. Once again, BBI/Nacon does not own the IP – they are a licensee. They sell the game – not develop and co-create it. After we refused to comply, we stopped receiving financial contributions for over 4 months.”

Not only that, Frogwares kept receiving inconsistent data from Nacon after they constantly requested to see sales forecasts. After the game was released on Xbox One, PS4, and Epic Games Store, they received a letter from Nacon stating that their previously-approved milestones were canceled and as a result, they wouldn’t receive any profit at all from the game.

After the lawsuit was filed, Frogwares also noticed a couple of incorrect information on box covers and storefront pages, wherein it implied that Frogwares was not the owner of the IP. For instance, their logo was removed in some box covers.

This detective game may not be the best and it’s definitely far from perfect, with it receiving a 66% rating on PC Gamer, it’s still pretty entertaining. As such, it’s very disheartening to learn about this messy legal dispute.

Not all hope is lost, though! You can still purchase and play The Sinking City on Frogwares’ official website, or on other storefronts they have partnered with such as Origin, Nintendo Switch, and Gamesplanet.
