Partnership on boosting 5G adoption in Thailand

Multinational technology company Intel recently announced its partnership with Swedish multinational networking and telecommunications company Ericsson to develop 5G user cases and accelerate the digitalization of enterprises in order to support Thailand’s 4.0 vision. 

Intel is a company that provides microprocessors for computer system manufacturers and also manufactures motherboard chipsets, flash memory, network interface controllers and integrated circuits, embedded processors, graphics chips, and more devices associated with computing and communications. 

Meanwhile, Ericsson is a networking and telecommunications company based in Stockholm, Sweden. It sells infrastructure, software, and ICT services for telecommunications providers and enterprises, including 5G equipment, IP, and more. 

Thailand has been a front-runner in the 5G market in its region. Intel’s partnership with Ericsson will ensure the Southeast Asian country will remain competitive worldwide. Intel and Ericsson share their respective visions to bring each of their state-of-the-art technologies and solutions to realize Thailand’s objective of becoming a full-fledged digital economy. 

“Through this collaboration, we will help enable Thailand’s 5G infrastructure with innovative edge services – powered by Ericsson and Intel technologies – to help local enterprises transform and accelerate their businesses through digital solutions,” Thomas Sennhauser, Intel’s chief technology officer for Communications Business in the Asia-Pacific and Japan regions, told news outlets. 

Intel and Ericsson will combine their respective technology expertise to showcase how communications service providers can boost 5G adoption and expand their B2B engagements based on 5G uses cases. 

This tie-up will focus on categories that include manufacturing, logistics, and transport. Additionally, it will also involve showcasing 5G’s role in building a sustainable digital economy.

“We will leverage our global 5G experience and collaborations with Intel to the benefit of CSPs in Thailand, with resilient network performance, scalability, simplicity, and security as a primary focus,” Igor Maurell, head of Ericsson Thailand, stated.

Not the first partnership between the 2 companies

This is the first-time Intel partnered with Ericsson. Last April, the two companies also announced their tie-up, and that time, to boost 5G adoption in Malaysia, another country in Southeast Asia.

The collaboration has demonstrated how the 5G infrastructure in Malaysia, together with innovative edge services powered by Intel and Ericsson’s technologies, enables the country’s enterprises to transform and accelerate their business operations through digital solutions.

Aside from unveiling its new Quest 3 headset, another highlight at the Meta Quest Gaming Showcase event was the long list of VR-optimized games coming to the Quest platform.

The introduction of Quest 3 isn’t the only thing that further fortified Meta’s metaverse business recently. At its recent event, the Facebook parent also revealed a slew of new games that might help it make Quest devices more attractive to VR fans. Mozilla announced the three winners of its “Responsible AI Challenge,” with the champion featuring an anti-AI watermark tool taking home $50,000. 

The company said the competition was held to encourage AI creators to produce “trustworthy AI solutions,” which resulted in hundreds of entries. The works were judged by AI academics, developers, and entrepreneurs, who picked the three winners that the company announced.

The first price was bagged by Sanative AI, which created a tool that can provide anti-AI watermarks. The creation, which gave its team the $50,000 prize, is said to be effective in protecting images and artwork against diffusion models that will use them as training data.

The Kwanele Chat Bot came in second place, giving it a $30,000 cash prize. Unlike other conventional bots, the creation is specifically designed for “women in communities plagued by violence.” Specifically, it allows easy access to help and is meant to “ensure the collection of admissible evidence.”

Last is the Nolano, a trained language model employing natural language processing to run on laptops and smartphones. It received a total of $20,000 from Mozilla.

According to the company, it aims to aid the winners in developing and refining their projects. As such, aside from the monetary prize, the competition winners will also receive mentorship and access to its resources and communities.

Bing Chat now has 300 chat limit per day

Microsoft Bing has just bumped up its chat limit recently. Bing Head of Engineering and Product, Jordi Ribas, confirmed this in a recent announcement on Twitter, saying the search engine bot can now cater to 30 chat turns per conversation or 300 chat limit a day.

The last time Microsoft increased the chat limit on Bing was in March. Nevertheless, Today’s announcement is significant as it seems the company is gradually lifting the limit on Bing. To recall, the software giant implemented the limit when reports about misbehaving Bing Chat, AKA “Sydney,” started. According to the company, long conversations could confuse the bot, forcing it to limit the number of daily chats. Yet, this ceiling seems to be going away bit by bit. Even more, a Microsoft executive recently hinted at a possible Sydney comeback. 

The news follows other improvements Microsoft made on Bing, such as the introduction of a Bing widget for Android and SwiftKey Bing improvements. The company also recently made sport grounding enhancements to Bing and its disengagement rate.

In the future, more things are expected to arrive, including third-party plugins for Bing Chat and a complete integration of Bing on Windows, which will be called Windows Copilot. According to the company, the upcoming Copilot for Windows will accept various commands from users, from changing the PC’s settings to creating compositions and summarizing texts. Microsoft’s Chief Product Officer Panos Panay also noted it could answer complicated queries like the regular Bing Chat.

“Just like you would with Bing Chat, you can ask Windows Copilot a range of questions from simple to complex,” Panay shared in the blog post. “If I want to call my family in Cyprus, I can quickly check the local time to make sure I’m not waking them up in the middle of the night. If I want to plan a trip to visit them in Cyprus, I can ask Windows Copilot to find my family flights and accommodations for mid-winter break.”

It is no secret that its stores are Apple’s money-generating machine. Nonetheless, a new report reveals how much these stores actually bring to Apple: up to $100 million per year. And in the future, Apple could earn more as it plans to build more stores.

A report from Bloomberg shares that Apple is operating four types of retail stores: “standard,” “Apple Store+,” “flagships,” and “flagship+” stores. The writer, Mark Gurman, known for sharing Apple and other tech leaks, claimed that as per internal data, the said stores respectively bring in more than $40 million, $45 million, $75 million, and $100 million every year. These numbers are expected to increase in the coming years as the brand plans to expand its reach to more locations by building new stores.

As the report indicates, Apple plans to have a total of 53 “new, relocated or remodeled stores” through 2027. Specifically, the company hopes to open 15 new stores in Asia Pacific, five locations in Europe and the Middle East, and four more outlets in the US and Canada. Additionally, it reportedly wants six revamped/relocated stores in Asia, 13 in North America, and nine in Europe.

The report comes as the company explores and reportedly develops more products, which will soon join its roster of offerings in its stores. Some include the rumored Apple Reality Pro headset, iPhone 15 and iPhone 17, Apple Watch Series 9, a new iMac, Mac Pro with M2 Ultra, and a 15-inch MacBook Air.

Before this official launch, there had been several rumors and speculations on what the features of this VR headset would be. But now, everything is official. 

Redesigned from the inside out, Meta Quest 3 is the wireless headset that can do it all. Enjoy more than twice the GPU processing power compared to Quest 2 thanks to the next-gen Snapdragon chip,” the company stated.

Way cheaper than Apple’s

“Google sends you security alerts to help prevent other people from using or abusing your account. Help keep your account secure by responding right away to any security alerts you get by phone or email,” Google said on its official Help page. 

Google sends security alerts to users when it detects crucial actions in your account, such as when somebody signs in using a new device. It also does so if it sees suspicious activities in the account, such as an unusual number of emails being sent. Google also sends you security alerts if it blocks somebody from doing an action, such as viewing stored passwords. 

How hackers do it

Is it really possible for somebody else to send an unusual number of emails using your account beyond your control? Yes. 

Scammers can hack email accounts and use them to send malicious phishing messages from credible and trusted sources. They may use your Gmail to send scam emails to people in your contact list and pretend that it is you who sent the emails to them. Plus, and equally as alarming, these hackers might use your Gmail to send a large amount of spam to people you do not know. 

When Google sends security alerts once they detect such behavior, a great thing about this is that you can take action to prevent these threats. 

Take action

If the activity did not come from you, refer to the security alert to review the sign-in details. Then, choose “No, secure account.” You may also be required to change your password. 

If the activity came from you, the security alert would inform you of sign-in details, such as the device type, time, and location. Choose “Yes” if you performed the activity.

Hackers accessing your Gmail is risky for several reasons, especially if your email address is tied to your bank account. They can use your email address to receive access codes to your bank account.

Twitter introduces ‘Notes on Media’ for adding info on misleading images

Twitter unveiled a new feature called “Notes on Media,” which should allow Twitter Community Notes users to add information dedicated to questionable images on the platform.

The fast advancements in AI give way to the birth of complex image generators, allowing people to produce realistic images that often result in misinformation online. With this, different platforms are trying to catch up by rolling out various tools that could control the growing fake news problems. That includes Twitter, which recently shared the pilot of Noted on Media under its Community Notes program.

The tool is specifically designed for adding information related to an image, and the notes will appear on recent and future matching images. According to Twitter, contributors with a Writing Impact of 10 or above will see a new option to leave notes on images regardless of which post they are featured in.

“Raters and readers will see notes that authors marked as ‘about the image’ slightly differently, so it’s clear to everyone that they should be interpreted as about the media, not the specific Tweet,” Twitter added. “Ratings can help identify cases where a note may not apply to a specific Tweet.”

According to Twitter, the tool currently only supports posts with a single image, but it shared that it has plans to expand it to tweets with multiple pictures and even videos.

The feature’s rollout arrives as Twitter continues to battle misinformation, which is being worsened by the paid Blue subscription that gives others a way to pay for a verification checkmark. Even climate scientists find the issue — specifically hostile climate change denialism — growing, pushing some to leave the platform. Twitter, nonetheless, is not the only one dealing with this. Misinformation has also been prevalent on TikTok and Meta’s (which reportedly laid off engineers working on its new anti-misinformation tool) platforms. And with the arrival of AI tools capable of creating realistic content, tech platforms have no other option but to beef up their anti-misinformation initiatives.
