In terms of market performance, both entrants were adequate, but none set the globe on fire. Platinum Games and Nintendo, on the other hand, are working on a third installment. During The Game Awards 2017, the publisher announced Bayonetta 3 with a small teaser clip that reaffirmed the game’s status as a Nintendo Switch exclusive.

Bayonetta 3 reappeared at Nintendo’s September 2021 Direct after a long period of inactivity that left many people suspicious about the game’s progress. Questions regarding exclusivity have risen to the forefront once more.

Hideki Kamiya posted to Twitter to remind fans that Nintendo is funding and publishing Bayonetta 3 in response to questions regarding a possible release on PlayStation and Xbox platforms. While the odds of Bayonetta 2 and Bayonetta 3 being released on other systems “aren’t zero,” he went on to clarify that Nintendo would have the ultimate say in the issue.

The possibility of Mario and Legend of Zelda games getting PS5 conversions isn’t completely out of the question. A sentence from Kamiya’s translated tweet says, “Please try your best and continue to submit passionate demands to Nintendo.”

The Bayonetta 3 demands should be put to rest thanks to Kamiya’s Mario and Zelda analogies. The comparison isn’t precisely one-to-one, though, because Sega still owns the IP rights to Bayonetta. Perhaps the hack-and-slash series will make a comeback on PlayStation and Xbox in the future? Only time will tell if this is true.

Wonderful 101, a Nintendo exclusive developed by Platinum Games, has previously ported to other platforms. Following an exceptionally successful Kickstarter effort that raised well over $1 million, the company self-published Wonderful 101 Remastered in 2020, releasing the game on Nintendo Switch, PC through Steam, and PS4.

Specifics about the franchise’s IP rights, on the other hand, are unclear to the general public. As a result, it’s uncertain whether Bayonetta will be treated similarly in the future.
