Nintendo Switch Online reaches 26 million subscribers

As part of Nintendo’s corporate policy briefing for its fiscal year ending on March 2021, the Japanese gaming giant provided updates on their financial and business status as well as future plans for the remainder of the fiscal year.

Nintendo Switch Online, its paid online subscription service, has now reached more than 26 million paid subscribers as of September 2020. Nintendo Switch Online is exclusively available for the Switch users and is required for users to access online game features and works similarly with Xbox Live Gold and PlayStation Plus.

This achievement is up from 15 million in January which means the rise in subscribers might be because of the popularity of Animal Crossing: New Horizons. The said game instantly became a hit since it was released last March and has now sold more than 21 million copies.

Nintendo also revealed that other online-based games including Pokemon Sword and Shield, and Super Mario Bros. Ultimate contributed to this success. Nintendo also disclosed that more than 200 million gamers have Nintendo accounts on both mobile and the Switch.

The company registered an increase in its number of registered players during the Switch console’s release and again during the launch of Mario Kart Tour last 2019. Nintendo consistently grows its community even beyond those who already own the Switch.

While Nintendo accounts are free upon registration, these open new users to Nintendo’s services which means these users can be monetized in some way, both on the Switch and mobile.

Portuguese website leaks Mass Effect Trilogy Remastered for Nintendo Switch

A listing on a Portuguese website shows the upcoming Mass Effect Trilogy Remastered potential prices including a version of the game on the Nintendo Switch.

There have been speculations about an upcoming remaster of a Mass Effect game going around for a while now. The game is rumored to be released alongside The Art of Mass Effect Trilogy: Expanded Edition book on March 23, 2021.

The leak was published by Twitter user @Nibellion today where he posted a screenshot from the Portuguese website Gaming Replay. The post contains the listing and title for the game called Mass Effect Trilogy Remastered. The game will be available on the Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and surprisingly, the Nintendo Switch.

It was recently rumored that the remaster’s Switch version wouldn’t be available during the release date but fans are still hoping that this new leak means all three versions will be available immediately.

The Xbox One and PlayStation 4 editions are set at a retail price of €59.99 while the Switch version will cost €49.99. With N7 Day just around the corner, fans will likely get more updates about the trilogy soon enough.

Nintendo Direct Mini Partner Showcase happening tomorrow

There will be a lot of video game enthusiasts glued to their screens tonight when Sony premieres their PlayStation 5 Showcase. However, this won’t be the only gaming showcase event for this week.

Another Direct Mini is scheduled to happen tomorrow, September 17 at 3 pm BST / 9 am CST. Players can watch Nintendo’s streaming event via their official Twitch and YouTube channels.

There are no leaks or official announcements regarding the games which will be featured in the show. However, the only thing that’s certain is that there will be no first-party Nintendo games and only third-party titles from various developers will be in the show.

This means that there will be no updates for Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2 or even the recently revealed Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity, so it’s best not to keep your hopes up.

The previous Nintendo Direct Minis have featured games including the exclusive remastered edition of Shin Megami Tensei 3 and Kingdom Hearts: Melody of Memory. It’s difficult to guess what the next Nintendo Direct Mini will feature but there have been leaks that a new Monster Hunter game is currently in development exclusively for the Nintendo Switch.

In addition, there isn’t any new news about already announced titles including Brave Default 2 and Doom Eternal for some time now.

Donkey Kong Country 2 Makes Its Way To Nintendo Switch Online

Nintendo has recently revealed the latest batch of Switch Online’s September 2020 NES and SNES games, and we’re overjoyed to see that Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy’s Kong Quest is a part of the list.

The list was revealed late Tuesday evening via Nintendo of America’s official Twitter. The selection also features other beloved classic SNES games such as Mario’s Super Picross, as well as The Peace Keepers. For the NES category, we have S.C.A.T.: Special Cybernetic Attack Team.

All of the above-mentioned games will be available to play for Nintendo Switch Online members starting this September 23.

Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy’s Kong Quest, as the name suggests, is a sequel to Donkey Kong Country which was already added to the list of Switch Online games last July. For this classic title, you follow Diddy Kong and Dixie Kong as they go on a mission to save Donkey Kong from King K. Rool.

Just like the first game, Donkey Kong Country 2 is pretty challenging, although some fans think it’s not as unfair as the first title. In fact, having Dixie Kong and her extremely nimble movement has made the game even more diverse.

It has been a regular thing for Nintendo Switch Online to add classic games. As such, it’s understandable if you’re tempted to apply for the subscription yourself. If so, these are the current price points: $4/£3.49 a month, $8/£7 every three months, or $20/£18 a year.

Having a Nintendo Switch Online membership gives you access to not only the newly-announced September games but over 50 other NES games and over 30 other SNES games as well.

Fortnite Disabled Hi-Rez Textures Option

Epic Games has decided to disable a new feature in Fortnite that was supposed to make the graphics better, however, what happened was the complete opposite. The feature was included in Patch v14.10, and it included an all-new “hi-rez textures” option in the game’s settings.

This option was supposed to improve Fornite’s graphics if you turned it on. However, the players were left confused because even though you could toggle it on for all platforms, it only really affected PlayStation 4 and Android users.

As a result, the Fortnite Status Twitter account clarified that the feature only worked for PS4 and Android versions. On the same day, the same account noted that turning the option off has caused some graphics to become worse than intended on the PlayStation 4.

As such, they advised that it would be better to keep the option turned on while Epic Games worked on a solution. Today, Fortnite Status tweeted that they have completely disabled the option for all platforms.

According to the tweet, the new option was supposed to be released for Android only. However, the developers are still working on a fix and will be made available to Android players in a future update.

We suppose that some kind of mishap took place over at Epic Games in the middle of developing the hi-rez option. Otherwise, they wouldn’t have added and then quickly removed it.

It’s highly possible that the option was added prematurely, and so, was not yet ready to be released. This appears to be implied in Fortnite Status’ tweet when they said that it was “meant for release only on Android but not at this time.”

That being said, fans love Fornite for its simple yet lovely art style. As such, Android users probably aren’t that upset that the feature has been disabled for now.

Square Enix Reveals Disappointing News About Kingdom Hearts: Melody of Memory

Kingdom Hearts director Tetsuya Nomura, Kingdom Hearts: Melody of Memory co-director Masanobu Suzui, and Kingdom Hearts series executive producer Ichiro Hazama took a moment out of their day to speak with Gamekult and provide further information about their upcoming title Kingdom Hearts: Melody of Memory.

What they revealed were pretty understandable and expected, however, there are also a lot of details that we’re quite disappointed with.

First and foremost, the trio revealed that Melody of Memory won’t feature new worlds. Not only that, but you won’t be able to customize any of the teams that you can play with i.e. the teams are all preset already and there’s no way for you to mix and match them up.

Kingdom Hearts: Melody of Memory is considered to be a recap game, so you will basically be taken on a journey across the Kingdom Hearts series through the use of the franchise’s wonderful collection of music. It’s also going to be a rhythm game, which makes it completely different than the usual action-RPG formula that the franchise has. Overall, these factors make sense as to why there are no new worlds in Melody of Memory.

However, the fact that we can’t customize our teams is what has left us speechless – in a bad way. The inability to customize teams would make sense during the Melody of Memory’s World Tour mode because doing so would break the game’s story logic.

However, the title has other game modes you can choose from that would be suitable for customizable teams.

Gamekult also asked if fans can play with the game’s story elements, and Nomura’s response was “not really.” Now, this reply is quite strange, as he could’ve just said an outright “no” instead of a vague response.

On the other hand, this could mean that Kairi might be playable in some capacity, although we’re not sure how and what that means exactly.

The plus side to Melody of Memory is the fact that it will feature new songs, and given the fact that the title will be released in more or less two months, we’re beyond excited to hear it.

Kingdom Hearts: Melody of Memory will be available on November 13 for PS4, Xbox One, and Switch.

Fake Gyms Pop Up in New Pokemon Go Glitch

Pokemon Go has had its fair share of bugs and glitches, and only recently a new one has sprung up. So far, Niantic has been pretty quick in fixing any issues that players encounter. However, albeit this latest glitch is bizarre, it doesn’t really do any harm to the players’ progress or gameplay.

More specifically, this new bug has been causing fake gyms to pop up in-game near players’ locations. The first reported sighting comes from a Reddit post, wherein the player was standing by and waiting for the daughter of their girlfriend only to receive a Remote Raid invite.

Remote Raid is a new Pokemon Go feature that was added to the game early this year, and it allows you to participate in nearby raids. In that way, you don’t need to leave your home in order to take part in a raid.

Even though the player accepted the invite, nothing was happening and no one else was joining the raid. So, after 20 seconds of waiting, they decided to leave. Upon arriving home, however, a new gym hosting a Mega Raid popped up near their girlfriend’s house. This was the same raid the player initially tried to join.

Other players have commented in the Reddit post stating that the same thing happened to them, as well, especially when receiving raid invites. Fortunately, there are no reports yet that the glitch is harming Pokemon Go’s gameplay. Plus, the fake gyms usually just go away if you close and restart the app.

That said, one Reddit user may have the answer as to what’s causing the issue. According to the user, the new remote raiding feature is the one creating fake gyms that are then used for the raid you’re joining. However, the fake gym is supposed to disappear once the raid is over.

It’s likely that a memory leak occurs during these times, which prevents the game from removing the fake gym. We’re not sure yet if this glitch is intentional or not, but some say that it’s Niantic’s way of preventing performance issues.

Ubisoft has finally revealed the PC requirements for Watch Dogs Legion, and from what we can see, it’s pretty heavy assuming that you want to play it on 1080p. Thankfully, Ubisoft included a very detailed breakdown of the different requirements for the varying resolutions and settings that you can try out.

It’s worth noting, though, that for all systems, you will need a 64-bit version of Windows 10 as well as 45GB of hard drive space. If you do decide to use the HD texture pack, you will need an extra 20GB.

There you have it: the complete breakdown for Watch Dogs Legion’s PC specs. Given that the game supports up to 4K resolutions along with HD textures and RTX Raytracing, the upcoming title is truly hefty.

Jump Force to Add Hiei from Yu Yu Hakusho

In a recent announcement, Bandai Namco has revealed that a beloved character from Yu Yu Hakusho will be included in Jump Force’s roster. For those who don’t know, Yu Yu Hakusho is a manga and anime series that started in 1990, but despite that fact, it still has a pretty big following even today.

Now, Hiei of the Evil Eye will be joining the ranks of Naruto, Son Goku, Yugi Moto, and more in fighting game Jump Force. That being said, Hiei – whose name means flying shadow – isn’t the first character in Yu Yu Hakusho who made an appearance in Jump Force.

For instance, Yusuke Urameshi and Younger Taguro have been a big presence in the game. Nevertheless, Hiei is a very welcome addition to the roster, especially since a lot of fans have been asking for more characters from Yu Yu Hakusho.

The announcement was made via the official Bandai Namco US Twitter page, and they even included some pretty badass screenshots showing Hiei in action. He will be available as a DLC character this Fall, while Nintendo Switch users will have to wait until 2021.

Based on the screenshots, it appears that Hiei will have remarkable power, along with super speed and elemental resistance. Seeing his relentless fighting style in-game will definitely be interesting.
