Demon’s Soul Remake gameplay trailer released

Bluepoint Games just released a gameplay trailer featuring the remake of Demon’s Souls during Sony’s live streaming event last Wednesday.

Demon’s Soul, a recently confirmed launch title for the PlayStation 5, was revealed in June. Sony stated that this remake has been “entirely rebuilt from the ground up and masterfully enhanced” exclusively for the next-gen console.

The classic Demon’s Souls was launched in 2009 for the PlayStation 3. Back then, the action RPG boasted its next-gen game designs and visuals which focused on providing a challenging gameplay experience set in a dark medieval European scenery.

Players take the role of a warrior traveling across the kingdom of Boletaria – a continent covered in fog and is occupied by demons. Players must defeat the demons roaming around the kingdom and consume their souls in order to become more powerful before battling an ancient demon called the Old One.

 

Demon’s Souls’ bizarre gameplay and its revolutionary multiplayer mode helped it attract a massive fan base despite it having a dull design. The favorable outcome of this game inspired the Dark Souls franchise and aided game director Hidetaka Miyazaki to rise to power as the president of FromwSoftware.

Resident Evil 8 Village releases second trailer during PS5 showcase

The PlayStation 5 Showcase has just been concluded and fans are still hungover by several mesmerizing trailers dropped during the event. One of the videos presented in the showcase is Capcom’s second trailer for the upcoming Resident Evil 8 Village which is coming to the next-gen consoles and the PC.

Resident Evil 8 Village is a survival-horror game that was first announced during Sony’s PlayStation 5 reveal event last July. During that time, the game was only announced to come to the PlayStation 5 but now, Capcom confirmed that the Resident Evil 8 Village will also be available on Microsoft’s next-gen consoles and the PC. However, there is still no official news of the game coming to the current-gen consoles.

Sadly, the trailer did not reveal an exact release date for the game and only showed that it will come sometime in 2021. Luckily, if the rumors are true, the game might hit the store shelves by the first half of next year. For the trailer, it was mostly another update to the game’s theme and story.

Resident Evil 8 Village is the 10th main installment in the Resident Evil franchise and is a direct sequel to 2017’s Resident Evil 7 Biohazard. As fans may remember, Resident Evil 7 debuted the latest RE Engine which took the franchise from a third-person POV to a first-person POV. For Resident Evil 8 Village, it will operate on the same engine and will also feature a first-person POV.

 

New Harry Potter Game Hogwarts Legacy revealed

Sony’s recently concluded PlayStation 5 Showcase featured an unexpected appearance from Warner Bros. with the reveal of a new Harry Potter-inspired game called Hogwarts Legacy.

This Harry Potter game is currently being developed by Warner Bros. and Avalanche Software and was already been leaked a few times before the showcase and has long been rumored to be in the works. The game is expected to be launched sometime in 2021 and will be available on the PlayStation 4 & 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.

The new game was confirmed as an RPG as recent leaks suggested but Hogwarts Legacy will not feature the same characters fans have loved from the movies and books. Rather, the game is set in the 1800s with users playing as a student who once again has a significant role entrusted upon them.

In a synopsis of the trailer, the developers revealed that players will be able to visit “familiar and new locations” as they progress through the game. The usual set of wizarding activities such as crafting potions and casting spells will also be available in the game.

Fantastic Beasts will also have a role in the game based on several monsters being featured in the trailer. The developers added that the Hogwarts Legacy will feature a talent system that integrates with RPG mechanics which will allow players to personalize and upgrade their wizard characters.

Given that the characters fans have known and loved from the Harry Potter series are timeless, players may likely encounter familiar characters via a DLC or a future update even though the game is set hundreds of years before the time of Harry Potter.

Five Games confirmed to launch alongside the PlayStation 5

Sony has confirmed which games will be launching alongside the PlayStation 5 during the next-gen console’s release date.

In a blog post published right after revealing the release date and price of Sony’s next-gen consoles, the company revealed five launch titles launching alongside the PlayStation 5 on November 12, 2020.

Here is the complete list of confirmed games including its prices:

  • Astro’s Playroom (Japan Studio) – pre-installed on PS5
  • Demon’s Souls (Bluepoint Games / Japan Studio) – $69.99
  • Destruction All-Stars (Lucid Games / XDEV) – $69.99
  • Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales – $49.99
  • Marvel’s Spider-Man: Mile Morales Ultimate Edition – $69.99
  • Sackboy A Big Adventure (Sumo Digital / XDEV) – $59.99

As expected, Sony confirms for the first time that they are planning to increase the prices on some PlayStation 5 exclusive games by $10, thus explaining the $69.99 price.

It is also worth mentioning that the list doesn’t contain upcoming multi-platform titles such as Fortnite, Call of Duty Black Ops Cold War, and Assassin’s Creed Valhalla which are arriving before or right after the next-gen consoles are released this November.

Cyberpunk 2077 by CD Projekt Red is also confirmed to have multi-platform releases and will be available on November 19, just a week after the PlayStation 5’s release.

Sony also confirmed that some of the above-mentioned games will see PlayStation 4 versions including Spider-Man: Miles Morales, Sackboy A Big Adventure, and Horizon Forbidden West.

New God of War Game Teased for PlayStation 5

During last night’s PlayStation 5 Showcase, SIE Santa Monica Studio and Sony Interactive Entertainment revealed a new God of War game which is temporarily called God of War Ragnarok and will be released for the PlayStation 5.

The game will be a sequel to 2018’s God of War which was one of the highest-rated PlayStation 4 games as well as one of the highest-rated games of all time. Thanks to the reboot’s critical and commercial success, a sequel is automatic but it is still great to hear that the game is officially in development.

As anyone might have guessed, the sequel is exclusively being developed for the PlayStation 5, which means fans must upgrade their consoles if they want to follow the continuation of Kratos’ latest adventure.

The God of War franchise started in 2005 thanks to David Jaffe of Sony Santa Monic and of course, the PlayStation 2. Since then, the God of War franchise has been one of PlayStation’s best and most popular games, though its fame was crumbling down before the 2018 reboot.

Spider-Man: Miles Morales Gameplay Revealed During PS5 Showcase

During last night’s PlayStation 5 Showcase live streaming event, Insomniac Games and Sony revealed a gameplay trailer for the upcoming game Spider-Man: Miles Morales.

The gameplay trailer included the first-ever look at the PlayStation 5’s actual gameplay such as its 4K visuals and 60fps capability. Unfortunately, the trailer didn’t include the game’s exact release date and only showed that it will be released sometime this “holiday 2020.”

Spider-Man: Miles Morales is set a year after the events of 2018’s Spider-Man inside a snow-filled Harlem – the community where the hero Miles Morales lives. The trailer shows the city on the brink of being torn into pieces thanks to a chaotic war between an unknown criminal organization and an energy corporation.

While the game is set one year after 2018’s Spider-Man, this game is not a sequel. According to the developers, a sequel featuring Peter Parker will come in the future but for now, Insomniac Games will focus first on how they will tell the coming-of-age story of Miles Morales.

Spider-Man: Miles Morales will be a PlayStation 5 exclusive and there are no updates if the game will be available to other consoles in the future. Below is a detailed description of the game based on Sony’s official website:

“The latest adventure in the Spider-Man universe will build on and expand Marvel’s Spider-Man through an all-new story,” reads an official pitch of the game. “Players will experience the rise of Miles Morales as he masters new powers to become his own Spider-Man. Final Fantasy XVI Officially Revealed

Most fans didn’t know what to expect from the PlayStation 5 Showcase, though there are a few titles they are hoping to see. One of the most popular games fans were expecting to see was Square Enix’s new addition to the esteemed Final Fantasy series, especially the next major installment following the events of Final Fantasy XV.

It has been a long time since fans heard anything about a new addition to the main series. However, that’s not the case anymore as Sony and Square Enix has finally revealed Final Fantasy XVI during last night’s PlayStation 5 Showcase.

One other big factor from the reveal was that Final Fantasy XVI will be exclusive to the PlayStation 5. However, they did mention that the footage revealed was captured on a PC. While the franchise has been a famous topic because of Final Fantasy VII Remake, Final Fantasy XV was the most recent entry in Final Fantasy’s main story.

Even though Final Fantasy XV was significantly delayed, the game was released with high praise for its amazing gameplay. Despite Final Fantasy XV’s success, it is still uncertain if the next title would have the same mechanics as the previous releases in the franchise or alter the characters and world for a brand new story.

While there are still no official announcements on the new game’s plot, characters, and gameplay, at least fans know where the game sits in the timeline. Based on the trailer, it seems that fans will have another new world to explore.

PlayStation 5 Price and Release Date Officially Announced

Sony has officially announced the PlayStation 5’s price and release date during last night’s PlayStation 5 showcase. After several months of painfully waiting, fans now know when they will begin playing the PlayStation 4’s successor.

Hoping there are no more delays, both versions of the PlayStation 5 will be released on November 12 in select regions and November 19 in the “rest of the world.” The standard edition will cost $499 while the Digital Edition is priced at $399. This announcement ended rumors about how expensive Sony’s next-gen console will be and whether it would match the prices of Microsoft’s Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S.

Sony has already announced several big PlayStation 5 exclusive games such as Spider-Man: Miles Morales as a launch title and other games releasing in 2021 including Ratchet & Clank and the most awaited sequel of Horizon Zero Dawn – Horizon Forbidden West.

The company also got a number of deals from third-party developers to make their future games a PlayStation 5 exclusive upon release such as Bethesda’s Ghostwire: Tokyo and Deathloop.

Nintendo working on more TV and movie-inspired content

Aside from the ongoing development of the Super Mario movie, Nintendo confirms they are currently working on numerous TV and film projects for its game series.

In a corporate management conference last Wednesday, the Japanese gaming giant revealed they have engaged in various visual content programs alongside Illumination’s Super Mario movie which is expected to hit cinemas in 2022.

Nintendo also said that these visual content projects may not be restricted to movies which means the company could broaden its game franchises on other mediums including TV series and comics. In addition, Nintendo also stated:

“The scale of our investments will vary based on the type of project, but we will continue to invest in these entertainment expansion initiatives to increase the number of people who have access to our IP.”

While Nintendo’s main business is making and selling video games, the company has consistently moved to leverage its famous IP in multiple ways in the past years. Nintendo’s new Tokyo store opened last November 2019, Super Nintendo theme parks are scheduled to open at various Universal Studios locations worldwide and Illumination’s Super Mario movie has a scheduled launch date sometime in 2022.

Nintendo revealed during Wednesday’s meeting that any game franchise expansions need a “deep relationship” with its interactive game experiences, appreciate the uniqueness of its properties, and prevent introducing features to its characters which might “limit future game development.”

 

Activision job listing suggests Warzone is coming to smartphones soon

A new Activision job listing on the company’s official website implies that Call of Duty Warzone will be coming to mobile phones soon.

The job listing is titled “Executive Producer, Features” and that the position is for “WZM” which appears to be a codename for Warzone Mobile. As of writing, the job listing has been taken down because the job has already been filled.

The listing also describes the job is for a “new mobile FPS in the Call of Duty franchise” and “As Executive Producer, Features you will own product framing and player experience of a new AAA mobile FPS in the Call of Duty franchise.“

In addition, the listing explains that the person perfect for the job must learn to adapt Warzone into a mobile experience and is knowledgeable on the elements of the game that needs to be carried over. The Warzone experience can be in some way duplicated on mobile due to recent progress in mobile developments over the past years.

Adding further confirmation that this job listing really indicates a Warzone port to mobile is it states that the executive producer will have the ability to integrate mobile-specific features which only makes sense when applied on these platforms. This final line would very well indicate that the upcoming Warzone mobile will be a standalone game which means it may not feature cross-play with PC and console players.

Call of Duty Warzone was launched last March 10 on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC as a free-to-play extension of Modern Warfare. It will also be integrated with the upcoming Black Ops Cold War this November.

Since then, the game has achieved unbelievable success and now has over 75 million players across the world. A mobile version would aid the game reach more areas worldwide where console and PCs are less accessible.
