Understanding Valorant’s New Hit Effects After the Latest Patch

0

Way back in early August, Riot Games posted a very comprehensive blog post about Valorant’s hit registration. In this post, software engineer Kevin Lee explains that what we see on the screen when playing is different from what happens on the server.

"In a game like VALORANT, hit registration is arguably one of the most
important systems given that the difference between a win or loss can
come down to a single headshot. Our goal as developers is to ensure that
when a player fires a shot, the outcome of the shot is clear,
feels right, and is above all else, correct."

Just today, a new update for Valorant has been released, and there have been some changes made with regard to the effects the players see when taking a shot to hopefully avoid or lessen any misunderstandings.

Some of the major changes are the following:

  • A new “small spark VFX” will show up wherever your shots land. This VFX will not move in order for you to adjust your aim. Just a heads up, though, that even if you do see this effect over an enemy, this doesn’t necessarily mean that you were able to hit them. This is because this new VFX is client-side. You will know if you do hit the enemy if the VFX moves along with them.
  • The headshot VFX has been changed to something smaller, which will make it easier to track players through it.
  • The hit effect for hitting an enemy has been tweaked, as well. This will now move or follow the direction of the part that you were aiming for. In other words, if the enemy you’re shooting at is in the process of crouching, the hit effect will not go over their head as this will make it seem like you scored a headshot that did not register. Instead, the hit effect will go downward, following their chest as they crouch.

You can check out the complete list and explanations of the VFX changes in Valorant’s patch notes. However, the important thing that you just need to take note of is that the small spark VFX will only tell you where your shots have landed in the client, whereas shots that hit will create a VFX that will move with the enemy’s body.

Moving on, this newest update has also brought about changes to the agents as well as the guns. It’s a big win for Viper in this patch since her Toxic Screen ability not only goes up faster, but it can be positioned through the spawn barriers even during the buy phase.

In addition to that, Viper’s Pit will now be visible on the minimaps of teammates. What’s more, her Decay damage from her smoke abilities will no longer affect allies.

The bad news is that Riot nerfed Sage’s healing. From 100 HP, Sage now heals for 60 HP. Also, it will now take twice as long when Sage heals herself.

"Our goal is to reduce the amount of healing done throughout the round.
Disincentivize Sage from self healing and make it more expensive to do so."

There have been changes made to Killjoy, as well. For one thing, there will now be a delay in Nanoswarm before it gets to inflict any damage, and will now only do 40 damage instead of 60. On the plus side, however, positive tweaks have been made to her Turret.

This new patch will now also give you the option to hide your name from members that are not a part of your party in order to avoid harassment.

Valorant’s most recent update is a big one, so we have only provided you with a summary. If you wish to read the complete details about this patch, you can check out the patch notes on the Valorant blog.

For those who pre-ordered Marvel’s Avengers, the game was made available to them on September 1, local time. This means that the game is already playable for those who live in Australia and other parts of the world.

That said, this means we now have a better idea with regards to Marvel’s Avengers’ in-game currency or the pricing for microtransactions. For starters, the in-game currency is called Credits, and just like in other games, you can buy them in different portions.

According to Stevivor, you can get Credits from the in-game store in the following groups: 500, 2,000 with 200 bonus Credits, 5,000 with 1,500 bonus Credits, and 10,000 with 3,000 bonus Credits.

The pricing starts at $5 USD for 500 Credits, and it can go all the way up to $100 USD for 13,000 Credits. Stevivor also noted down some of the cosmetics you can get in the game using your Credits:

  • Ms Marvel Legendary outfit: 1,400 Credits
  • Ms Marvel Epic takedown: 1,200 Credits
  • Ms Marvel Epic emote: 500 Credits
  • Ms Marvel Rare emote: 250 Credits
  • Ms Marvel Uncommon nameplate: 100 Credits

These items will rotate on a daily basis, so you will see new, fresh content regularly. Not only that, but it was also revealed that each and every one of the free Avengers heroes will have an optional $10 USD Challenge Card, which is quite similar to a Battle Pass system.

The official release date for Marvel’s Avengers, especially for those who did not pre-order the game, will be on September 4. The Xbox Series X and PS5 versions will follow suit later within the year.

Introducing Kate Bishop: Marvel’s Avengers First Free DLC

Avengers, assemble! It has been announced that the first-ever free DLC character for Marvel’s Avengers will be Clint Barton’s protege, Kate Bishop. This information was initially revealed by Square Enix during their Avengers War Table presentation.

Kate will be included in the game’s first post-release story expansion, otherwise known as Operation Taking AIM. This Operation will take place after the base game’s Avengers Assemble campaign. If you haven’t seen Kate Bishop’s reveal trailer yet, you can watch it below:

That being said, Kate’s storyline will be connected to Operation Future Imperfect, which is Clint Barton’s storyline that will be released in November. The trailer for Operation Taking AIM shows not only a new villain but it also gives us an idea of Kate’s somewhat complicated relationship with the Avengers as well.

From what we can gather from the trailer, Kate is trying to track down two people: Nick Fury and Clint Barton, who has made yet another disappearance. However, it appears that Barton may be working with the villains after all.

On another note, we noticed something very interesting near the end of the trailer – Kate Bishop appears to have the ability to teleport. Given the fact that she’s mentored by Barton, you’d expect their fighting capabilities to be the same.

After all, they’re both master archers who are well-practiced in martial arts. However, the trailer shows us a glimpse of this new superpower. During a fight, she briefly disappears in what looks to be crackling purple energy, only to reappear behind the enemy. This gives her the advantage of shooting them all from the back, unguarded.

It’s possible that she may have gotten her hands on a new device that allows her to teleport, but we won’t know anything for sure until we can play the DLC ourselves. The most recent War Table also reveals that there will be new mission types – four of them, to be exact.

These are AIM’s Secret Lab, Mega Hives, SHIELD Vaults, and Villain Sectors. The last one, Villain Sectors, allows you to fight against bosses.

Marvel’s Avengers will launch this September 4 for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Stadia, and PC.

‘PUBG Mobile’ gives permanent ban to over 2 million cheaters of the game

pubg mobile

PUBG Mobile has banned over 2 million of their players in just a week in efforts to decrease the game’s rampant cheating problem. The series of bans came a week after the release of the game’s “New Era” update. The patch also claims there have been enhancements in almost every element of the game.

Rise of PUBG

There was a time that PUBG looked like it was unstoppable. PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds was one of the founding fathers of the battle royale genre. The game aided in the birth of a new kind of gameplay that took the world by storm. Since the prime of PUBG, its fame has been taken over by Fortnite.

Fortnite drained away most of PUBG’s players because of its free-to-play feature and various crossover efforts. PUBG Mobile also made a crossover of its own such as the one with Walking Dead but Fortnite still managed to provide amazing content through partnerships with DC and Marvel which brought a lot of famous superhero characters into the tight rivalry. Even though PUBG is now away from its peak, its PC, console, and mobile versions are still highly popular.

PUBG Mobile addresses cheaters

Currently, PUBG Mobile still has millions of followers but it also attracted tons of cheaters. The game has a lot of previous issues with hacking but it seems like the developers have had enough. On PUBG Mobile’s official Twitter account, the developers revealed that they have banned over 2 million accounts using cheats just for the last week of August.

The difference between device and account bans is critical. This is because account bans can be easily bypassed while device bans are more difficult to avoid. Instead of just making a new account, players who have received a device ban can’t play the game anymore using the mobile device that was caught. PUBG Corporation revealed that most of the bans were because of players using x-ray vision and there were only a few who used auto-aim hacks.

Unexpected promotion

PUBG Mobile previously received an unexpected upgrade from Apple. Now that the phone maker is currently preoccupied with a legal battle against Epic Games over the Fortnite’s monetization issues, the company promoted PUBG Mobile on its App Store. It is worth noting that Fortnite is PUBG’s toughest competition in the market.

It is unsure how the move has affected PUBG Mobile’s player base but with Fornite removed from the App Store, some of its players might transfer to PUBG. If this is true, these players will get a game with fewer cheaters than it had a week ago. For both newcomers and loyal players, this ban will provide them with a better gaming experience.

Call of Duty Warzone Season 6 to receive subway systems from Infinity Ward

warzone season 6

Last Sunday, the Call of Duty League live stream ended with an aerial view of the Verdansk map. Fans believe they have spotted at least a few subway stations located near the stadium which will be added to Call of Duty Warzone Season 6.

There are already several subway stations present in the Verdansk map ever since the game was launched. However, there is no way of entering them as their entrances are locked off. It is worth noting that stations revealed during the Call of Duty League are currently not present in the existing version of Warzone.

A reliable Call of Duty insider previously revealed on Twitter that at least 5 subway stations would be integrated into Call of Duty Warzone Season 6 and would mostly loop around the center of the Verdansk map.

In addition, there are also rumors that Infinity Ward will add night mode and zombie mode in the near future. Call of Duty Warzone Season 6 is scheduled to begin at the end of this month which will be the stepping stone for the launch of Call of Duty Black Ops Cold War in November.

The developers announced that Black Ops Cold War will share its content with free-to-play Warzone users, similar to what Modern Warfare is doing right now. Black Ops Cold War will include shared progress with Warzone as well as add inventory items that can be utilized in both games.

In addition, Warzone players will still have access to Modern Warfare content which they have earned in previous plays including blueprints and operators. More information about the integration of Warzone to Black Ops Cold War will be revealed by the developers at a later date. The only thing confirmed right now is that a Black Ops-themed Warzone map is currently in development.

More ‘Resident Evil 8’ details to be revealed this month says Capcom

resident evil 8

Capcom has announced that they are revealing new information on Resident Evil 8 during the Tokyo Game Show which is set to happen later this month. The event, like most of the recent game shows scheduled this year, will take place on as an online streaming event. The good news is Capcom will hold a few live streams throughout the month.

On September 25, Friday at 6 AM PT, the developers will join an exclusive Tokyo Game Show live streaming event which features Capcom games including Resident Evil 8.

In addition, Capcom has also confirmed a Street Fighter 5 Champion Edition streaming event on September 26 and another Resident Evil 8 stream the next day, September 27. The stream will be in Japanese but the developers ensured that Chinese and English interpretations will be made available.

Capcom announced Resident Evil 8, also known as Resident Evil Village, during a PlayStation 5 event last June 2020. The game is expected to be released next year on both next-gen consoles as well as the PC. Lately, Capcom also confirmed that the game will still be in a first-person perspective similar to Resident Evil 7.

The game is set to take place a few years after the horrifying events of Resident Evil 7 where the hero Ethan Winters searched a Louisiana town to look for his missing wife, Mia.

During the reveal of Resident Evil 8, Capcom stated that they will be revealing more details about the game in August but the whole month just passed without any updates from them.

New ‘Final Fantasy 16’ Twitter account surfaces online

final fantasy 16

A Final Fantasy 16 placeholder account on Twitter has been the talk of the internet yesterday. This could mean that Square Enix could be reserving the username for the next title for its successful JRPG franchise.

Final Fantasy 16 Twitter account

As of writing, the Twitter account is still locked which means all of its tweets are hidden to the public. The username of the account is @FF16_JP which follows the series naming conventions on a few of its social media accounts. However, not all games follow this naming convention such as Final Fantasy 15’s Twitter name – FFXVEN – which uses Roman numerals and doesn’t have any underscores.

ff16-twitter-600x581-3280445

But in the case of Final Fantasy 14’s username – FF_XIV_EN, the underscores don’t indicate that the account would be fake. It is worth noting that that the username registered also uses a Roman numeral as opposed to 14. In addition, FF16_JP utilizes 16 in its numeric form which doesn’t absolutely discredit it.

Another placeholder account

A few months ago, a Fable placeholder account also appeared on Twitter and was quickly condemned as a fake. However, there is confirmation that a new Fable game is currently under development by Forza’s studio Playground Games a month after the placeholder account appeared.

According to leaks, Fable’s newest entry in the franchise could integrate MMO-like elements into the game but it has no confirmed release date yet. A Fable game having this featuring would allow players to take advantage of a shared world without compromising the series iconic gameplay experience.

In related news, Naoki Yoshida Final Fantasy 14’s mastermind debunked rumors that he is going to direct the new Final Fantasy 16. Yoshida said on an interview:

“I’m still going to continue being in charge of Final Fantasy 14 for more years to come as long as I don’t die from sickness or accident, so please ignore any non-official announcements. It’s so bothersome.”

EA Allegedly Plans Mass Effect Trilogy Remaster Announcement in October

0
Mass Effect

Mass Effect Trilogy is highly anticipated by fans worldwide, and the good news is it could be released in October. However, one could not deny the delays caused by Covid-19, possibly pushing the release date towards late this year.

It can be remembered that rumors rose about BioWare’s work on remastering a famous trilogy that will be specifically tailored for the new generation of consoles and players. This report put fans in a frenzy, even though it wasn’t clear yet at that time from what franchise will the project come.

Fortunately, a journalist finally revealed that publisher EA is planning to release the remastered trilogy this October. Note, though, that the product would be more of an upgrade than a full remake.

mass-effect-citadel-keyart-jpg-adapt_-crop191x100-628p-4682471

According to GamesBeat journalist Jeff Grubb, the original plan was to announce the project in early October and to release it late that month. However, since it’s already 2020 and nothing has been announced nor confirmed yet, the timeline could possibly slip. Although he affirmed that the remastered Mass Effect Trilogy is real, as he has seen adequate evidence of the work.

Grubb further deduced that EA is possibly paving the way for Mass Effect Trilogy to be the other big thing for about $60 on the holidays. Nonetheless, he also admitted that he could see why EA would like to delay the release, considering that practically everything is falling apart at the moment.

In the end, he didn’t really confirm anything. Everything is just a possibility. All he consistently stuck into was the publisher’s original plan of announcing and releasing the remastered Mass Effect Trilogy in October 2020.

On the other hand, a new book focused on the art of the Mass Effect Trilogy is now open for pre-orders. The book was entitled “Mass Effect Trilogy: Expanded Edition” and is expected to be released on February 23, 2021.

Interestingly, however, BioWare and Electronic Arts both didn’t publicize the artbook just yet. Right now, it seems to be available just for its US-based fans.

As you can check on Amazon, this book is described as something that contains hundreds of expanded, never-before-seen works of art that delves deeper into the sci-fi saga that altered video games forever. It will also showcase extensive new material from the DLCs for all three games, including Lair of the Shadow Broker from Mass Effect 2 and Citadel from Mass Effect 3.

Tesla Hiring New Game Development Team

Tesla

Tesla electric vehicles have become very expensive gaming console ever since June 2019. Elon Musk’s auto company is expanding its gaming prowess with some new game-focused job listings centered in Austin, Texas.

Electrek reported that hidden among the massive amount of job listings for Gigafactory Texas are some software-focused jobs including a video game engineer, software engineer, and rendering engineer. The company already had a gaming team based in Bellevue, Washington back in 2018, Musk tweeted about hiring gaming talent for a project that undoubtedly culminated in the launch of Tesla Arcade in June 2019.

The job listings are more focused on building a gaming platform and not on developing singular games. The video games engineer listing reads as follows:

bfd42e37cb3e29a04f1f11e8a497ecd0-3314175

Tesla Arcade games are all currently licensed, the available games include Fallout Shelter and Cuphead, so it does not seem that the company is planning to develop any first-party games just yet. The company once approached Nintendo about Mario Kart, the company wanted to license an in-car version, but the gaming giant refused and they went for a lesser-known racing title called Beach Buggy Racing 2 instead.
