League of Legends MMO Confirmed To Be In Development

screenshot-map-leagueoflegends-com-2020-12-18-12_54_19

For the past couple of years, Riot Games has really grown and broadened its horizons. Thanks to how successful its online battle arena League of Legends has become, the developer and publisher began releasing other titles outside of that genre.

Some of the titles it has released so far include Valorant, Legends of Runeterra, and Teamfight Tactics — video game titles that offer vastly different gameplay experiences, each of which found success in their respective genres. Then there’s Ruined King and the rumored Project L and Projekt F, Riot Games titles that offer even more diversity.

Now, it appears that the company is more than ready to dive into another genre, one that is even more complex than the previous titles. More specifically, it has been confirmed that Riot Games is currently working on an MMO.

Given the fact that this came as such a shock to many of us, you would think that Riot would announce this via a trailer or perhaps even a press event. However, this wasn’t the case for this mystery game.

The fact that Riot Games is developing an MMO was revealed in the simplest way possible: through a tweet. For a little bit of context, the tweet was posted by Riot Games’ VP of IP Greg Street aka Ghostcrawler. He initially announced the exciting news that the company is currently developing something, even stating at the end that they’re hiring right now.

One fan who goes by the Twitter handle @RichelleLOL asked if the new project was going to be an MMO, to which Street casually confirmed that it was. The nonchalant reply is all we need as confirmation and leaves no room for doubts and speculation.

In addition, Street also mentioned in his tweet that while he was responsible for the development of League of Legends’ universe, he now has a new job and therefore a new responsibility. He specifically states in the tweet that his “new job is to kick off a big (some might say massive) game” that many fans have been asking for Riot Games to develop.

He goes on to imply that it’s going to be a game that many League of Legends fans, specifically, will be thrilled about. It’s safe to say that Street isn’t trying to be remotely subtle here, as the word “massive” already implies that the new project is going to be an MMO.

That being said, Greg Street is right — League of Legends fans have been asking Riot Games to create an MMO for a while now. The founder of Riot Games, Marc Merill, said less than a year ago that if the company were to develop an MMO, it wouldn’t be “any time soon.”

However, it’s possible that the company was already starting to lay out the groundwork for potentially creating an MMO title. As such, it makes sense why the developer is confident enough to reveal this fact to the fans now seeing as it’s already ready to move onto a different phase in its development.

It is worth noting that while it has been implied that the MMO will be connected to the League of Legends universe, Street doesn’t explicitly say this. There’s still a chance that the company is working on something else entirely, but until Riot Games publishes an official press release, we won’t know for sure.

PlayStation Store Removes Cyberpunk 2077 Indefinitely

As most people in the gaming community know by now, things aren’t going well for both Cyberpunk 2077 and developer CD Projekt Red. Even though the developer already formally apologized and informed dissatisfied players that they can get a full refund from the storefront where they bought the game, many last-gen console users are beyond upset with the company for its lack of communication after the game’s horrible performance.

To rub salt on the wound, Sony announced that Cyberpunk 2077 will no longer be available on the PlayStation Store for an indefinite period of time. Cyberpunk 2077 was promoted and hyped for a long time even before its official release, gaining a following of PlayStation 4 and Xbox One users despite the fact that CD Projekt Red never really divulged information about how the title would play on that generation of consoles.

Image

A month before the highly-anticipated game was launched, the developer finally shared gameplay footage of Cyberpunk 2077 running on the next-gen consoles through backwards compatibility, as well as the PlayStation 4 Pro and Xbox One X. However, there was a noticeable lack of footage of the game running on the regular PlayStation 4 and Xbox One consoles.

At the beginning of the week, the leaders of CD Projekt Red posted an apology for not putting as much attention to the last-gen console versions of Cyberpunk 2077, even going so far as encouraging fans to ask for a refund from Xbox and PlayStation if they don’t want to wait for an update.

However, fans quickly learned that the company apparently didn’t inform Sony about their statement beforehand, as PlayStation’s support team refused to provide fans with a refund. Now, the official Twitter account for PlayStation support has confirmed that it will be giving out full refunds to those PlayStation 4 players who want their money back.

At the same time, the company will be taking down Cyberpunk 2077 from the store until further notice, meaning interested players won’t be able to digitally purchase the game from there.

Usually, Sony only allows digital refunds for the PlayStation if the software or game hasn’t been downloaded onto the console just yet. Once the player downloads the game onto either the PlayStation 4 or PlayStation 5, their option to request a refund becomes null and void.

However, Cyberpunk 2077’s case was made an exception given the fact that so many purchasers were extremely disappointed with how the game performed on their respective consoles. As such, Sony will allow those who purchased Cyberpunk 2077 to ask for full refunds even though they’ve already clocked in several hours playing the game or have even completed it already.

Since Cyberpunk 2077 has been removed from the PlayStation Store until further notice, this means that future gamers who want to buy the title will have to look for a physical copy instead.

CD Projekt Red already confirmed that it will be releasing major updates in the months to come, but at this point, it’s safe to assume that it will be churning out these patches one after the other sooner than expected if it wants to start healing the gaping wound it left on the fans who waited and expected so much from this game.

Xbox Announces Exclusive The Mandalorian Controllers Coming Soon

Microsoft is partnering with Disney+ to create a new Xbox Series X controller themed with the popular Star Wars TV series, The Mandalorian. This is not the first collaboration Xbox has participated in to advertise its new console.

Last month, fast-food chain Bojangles revealed an exclusive console cover for the Xbox Series X, designing the next-gen console as a box of Bojangles fried chicken. The crazy crossover was won by a lucky follower on Twitter.

If nothing else can be said for the kick-off of the new generation of consoles, at least it has been memorable. Both the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S released last month to widespread, and both sold out instantly.

The global pandemic has taken a heavy toll on the production of consoles which is why demand has been insatiable. Scalpers have been utilizing bots to secure and pick thousands of next-gen consoles before law-abiding fans have an opportunity to secure the hardware for themselves, and sellers simply just can’t keep up. Sadly, these selfish scalpers have been rewarded for their immoral behaviors as they have made at least $60 million since the new systems were released.

However, these supply issues haven’t prevented Xbox from rewarding those lucky few who actually managed to secure a copy of their new console. A few hours ago, Xbox Wire revealed a new special edition Xbox Series X controller with a design inspired by The Mandalorian.

Since the TV series sadly doesn’t have a video game, the controllers are rather being launched to commemorate the airing of the show’s season 2 finale on December 18. One controller sports the Child wielding the force while the other portrays the titular Mandalorian, equipped with his iconic Beskar armor.

The controllers are not available for purchase and will only be available to fans that will retweet the Xbox sweepstakes post on Twitter. The lucky winners will be rewarded with the exclusive controllers which will be delivered in a special Star Wars-inspired mail.

It might look bizarre for Xbox to provide fans accessories inspired by a TV series rather than a video game but does make sense in context. Last November, Xbox made another collaboration with Disney and is now giving a 30-day Disney+ free trial to people who subscribe to Xbox Game Pass Ultimate.

This is a great way for loyal Xbox fans to catch up on the famous Star Wars TV show in time for the season finale, and, if they are lucky, in time for their new exclusive The Mandalorian controller to arrive.

Assassin’s Creed Valhalla Players Can Now Buy XP Boosts

Ubisoft’s latest entry to the Assassin’s Creed franchise may have been released only last month, but it is already considered to be one of the best games in the series. For one thing, many fans loved how Assassin’s Creed Valhalla made a couple of changes to the formula that previous games in the series followed.

For example, this latest entry has deviated from the progression system of Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, which more or less required its players to grind if they want to reach higher levels.

Now, one of the reasons why Odyssey’s system was so heavily criticized is because many believe that Ubisoft made the game’s progression slow on purpose in the hopes that players decide to purchase microtransactions that increase their XP using real-world money.

These microtransactions weren’t available in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla at first, but now it appears that the purchasable XP boosts have officially been introduced to the title’s in-game store.

2f0d3eae-7997-4ff5-8649-ff27d00db938-7331782

In line with this, Assassin’s Creed Valhalla players can now spend real currency if they want their character to effectively level up faster. There are two different options for players to choose from if they do decide to purchase some XP.

The first option is a permanent 50% XP increase to all experience gained while playing the game by spending 1,000 “Helix credits.” That amount of credits is more or less equivalent to $10, and if purchased, it will be implemented across each and every Assassin’s Creed Valhalla save file.

The second option, on the other hand, is the more expensive one of the two. For 1,500 Helix credits, players are given a bundle that provides the same 50% boost in experience as well as a 50% boost in money. In other words, players who opt for this bundle will be able to not only level up faster, but they will earn money at a faster rate as well.

To explain why Ubisoft decided to bring back a feature that ws so controversial within the series’ community, the company told Game Informer that these microtransactions are a great help to those players who don’t have the extra time to spare to “fully explore the world of Assassin’s Creed Valhalla to be able to acquire the game’s best gear.” As such, helping them accelerate their progress allows them to obtain these gear along with other items.

In addition to that, the company also said that it decided to reimplement the feature because more post-launch content are headed to Assassin’s Creed Valhalla. As such, they want to help prepare those players who haven’t reached end-level Eivor just yet.

For those who are interested in purchasing these boosts, the in-game store can be located in the menu for easy access. As for Assassin’s Creed Valhalla in general, the title has been doing great so far since its release.

As a matter of fact, this latest entry got the best launch sales within the Assassin’s Creed franchise so far, garnering a deluge of positive reviews from players and critics alike. The game’s latest update not only fixed several bugs, but it also prepares the players for the introduction of the Yule Festival.

The Yule Festival marks the first post-launch content for the game, and needless to say, there’s a lot more coming.

Among Us Coming to Xbox and Xbox Game Pass Next Year

0
amongus_sungvs9

Finally, Among Us, the hit game that swept the world in 2020, will be coming to Xbox and the Xbox Game Pass, the console’s subscription service next year, according to a recent post on Twitter by the company. Since the start of the game’s launch, it has only been available to play on mobile devices, and then eventually on the PC, but it looks like consoles are starting to step into the spotlight with this multiplayer title.

Among us is a game that has been in the market since 2018 but lately had a large following in popularity, so much so that it has become one of the most viewed games on Twitch. It also received various nominations at The Game Awards this year and has won Best Mobile Game of the Year and Best Multiplayer Game, so there’s no scarcity of how much this game has been fun for everyone. Among Us is free to play and is rather easy to understand, so it’s no surprise that consoles are beginning to introduce the game into their systems.

Xbox lately replied to a tweet from Xbox Game Pass for PC that was advertising the game, simply stating “*pops out of vent* Oops, we’ve been caught.” After this, Xbox claimed that the game will be coming to its consoles, as well as to Xbox Game Pass in 2021, which means it will be arriving soon as the new year is just right around the horizon.

Xbox is not the first console to integrate Among Us to its console. Nintendo Switch recently launched the game on the eShop. However, in that port fans don’t have to pay for the game – but it’s only $5 – so it’s not like someone would empty their pockets to try and download the game on the Nintendo Switch with their games.

There haven’t been any new updates about whether PlayStation will be adding the game too on its consoles, but with how it has been performing with the others, fans shouldn’t be surprised if news comes with the next few weeks from Sony.

Again, Among Us has been on top of the charts for months now, so much that players have modded it with various different ways to play it. During the recently concluded The Game Awards, the game’s developers announced that they were going to be releasing a new map next year around March, one that will be a crossover between Henry Stickman and Among Us. These new improvements and the ability to easily team up with friends have been some of the reasons why many gamers have flocked to the game.

Nintendo Boss Shuts Down Switch Pro Rumors

The president of Nintendo of America, Doug Bowser, denied the rumors of a possible release of the Nintendo Switch Pro in a recent interview. Although the Switch has a relatively slow year, there have been plenty of first-party games that launched earlier this year including Pikmin 3 Deluxe, Paper Mario: The Origami King, and Animal Crossing New Horizons.

Just a few days ago, the extremely popular online multiplayer title, Among Us, was revealed and released on the platform. It didn’t take that long for the game to become a bestseller on the Nintendo eShop, either.

Even though the Nintendo Switch has had a quiet year in terms of first-party support, that didn’t stop fans from buying the console last November. The hybrid system even outsold the highly sought PlayStation 5 during its release month.

nintendo-switch-23-3-7431316

There are also even more NES and SNES games coming to Nintendo Switch Online, as well, such as Donkey Kong  Country 3: Dixie Kong’s Double Trouble!, thus completing the Donkey Kong trilogy on the Nintendo Switch’s online subscription service.

In a recent interview with Doug Bowser on Polygon, the president of Nintendo of Americas shut down rumors of a Nintendo Switch Pro. When questioned whether the company was considering the much speculated Nintendo Switch Pro, Bowser replied by saying that Nintendo is dedicating its efforts to the standard and Lite editions of the console as of now.

As the president stated himself, “the momentum on Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch Lite in the fourth year is strong.” Because of these consoles’ success, Bowser said Nintendo doesn’t see a need to make a Switch Pro when the standard and Lite editions are still performing well.

Although it may be frustrating to some players that a Switch Pro isn’t coming soon, it does make sense that Nintendo didn’t have something like this currently in the works. Nintendo has never truly been a hardware-forward, technologically remarkable company.

The company is more focused on making fun games than boasting visual and technological prowess. After all, there was no such thing as a Wii U Lite or even a Wii U Pro, for that matter.

Because Nintendo is also seen as more of a family-friendly company, it’s reasonable that it’s committing itself totally to the Lite and standard Switch versions. The Nintendo Switch Lite, specifically, is intended for children and younger customers, as well.

A Switch Pro, from this perspective, likely wouldn’t sell as much as the Lite edition. A Switch Pro would be an interesting prospect, but the Nintendo Switch is still a robust console that can hold on its own.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate’s DLC Character Sephiroth Now Has Release Date

screenshot-www-youtube-com-2020-12-18-07_23_17

It came as an unexpected surprise when it was revealed during The Game Awards 2020 that Sephiroth will be joining Super Smash Bros. Ultimate’s roster as a playable DLC fighter. A new video showcasing the character’s gameplay overview was recently dropped as well, which significantly increased the fans’ excitement.

Most Super Smash Bros. Ultimate fans didn’t expect that another character from Final Fantasy 7 would make an appearance. In fact, no one really thought that Final Fantasy, in general, would be represented at all.

However, this doesn’t mean that the announcement wasn’t well-received. That being said, the recent Sephiroth showcase was meant to give fans a glimpse of what the antagonist will be bringing to the table, but it also revealed when the character will officially go live.

It turns out that excited fans who can’t wait to test out the Final Fantasy 7 character won’t have to wait for long, as he’s scheduled to release this December 23.

Naturally, players should expect that there will be a deluge of Sephiroth users as soon as the character goes live. As a matter of fact, it’s highly likely that tournaments will feature several Sephiroths for an amount of time, and that Super Smash Bros. Ultimate content creators will be playing and having discussions about him.

Many players from the Smash community have analyzed Sephiroth’s style of fighting from the reveal trailer, and they were able to conclude that he can fight at significantly long ranges due to his long sword.

As such, spacing is crucial for those who want to master Sephiroth in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, especially since one strength of his is the ability to deal major damage to enemies while at a safe distance. In addition to that, he has pretty decent special attacks that offer players a wide range of utility.

For instance, he has a side special that will put pressure on his enemies, along with a defensive skill for those who get too close to the character.

Among other things, Nintendo also announced new Mii Fighter costumes. These include familiar costumes based on iconic characters by Square Enix, such as Geno and Barrett. Not only that, hats based on Tifa, Aerith, and even a Chocobo have also been introduced. With all these amazing new content, Sephiroth’s DLC pack is turning out to be a dream come true for many Final Fantasy fans out there.

screenshot-www-youtube-com-2020-12-18-07_22_29

The only downside to this, however, is the fact that Geno as a DLC fighter most likely won’t become a reality. Still, it’s great that he’s still included in the game in some way. The Sephiroth showcase definitely gave us an idea of the character’s capabilities, but players won’t know the extent of his powers until they try him out for themselves.

It would definitely be interesting to see how the villain will handle against Super Smash Bros. Ultimate’s diverse roster of playable characters, especially since his reveal trailer made Sephiroth look incredibly powerful.

In other news, fans who can’t wait until next week for his official release can actually play him early by beating his boss battle. Players who have already bought the DLC pack should check that out.

Latest Overwatch Map May Be Hinting At New Fox Hero

0

To the fans’ surprise, Blizzard Entertainment announced a brand-new Deathmatch map unexpectedly, with the new area consisting of beautiful Japanese buildings and interesting establishments such as a cat cafe and a seedy nightclub.

That being said, it appears that this most recent Overwatch map, which has been named Kanezaka, also contains several hints and teasers alluding to new heroes. More specifically, the new map heavily references the fox hero that has been rumored about in the past.

In a recent developer update, Overwatch Director Jeff Kaplan shared a few teasers about the new map, particularly about the different graffitis that can be found throughout Kanezaka. Kaplan advised fans to pay close attention to these graffitis, which led them to quickly analyze and unveil potential lore.

Kaplan’s hints were apparently helpful, as players discovered various references to a hero that’s expected to arrive in Overwatch 2.

screenshot-www-youtube-com-2020-12-18-09_06_54

It was announced some time in 2019 that a new Overwatch 2 hero will be accompanied by some kind of pet that is greatly similar to a fox. The unannounced female hero will reportedly be wielding a four-sided melee weapon. However, the spotlight supposedly lands on the fox-like pet, as it has been suggested that it will assist the hero in battle or may perhaps even serve as her ultimate ability.

Given the fact that the fox is so prominently featured in the unannounced Overwatch 2 hero’s concept, it can’t be argued that the fox references in Kanezaka’s street art are an obvious allusion to the mysterious hero.

That being said, we must give credit where credit is due. The fox graffiti was discovered by a fan and Reddit user who goes by the handle DoctorDeadeye, who gladly shared their discovery on the Overwatch subreddit.

It appears that one of the graffitis in Kanezaka secretly hid the Japanese word “yokai” — which can be translated to supernatural entities or spirits that can sometimes appear like animals. When looking at Japanese folklore, these yokai usually take on the appearance of foxes.

If you piece two and two together, Blizzard is essentially providing players with hints as to what the upcoming hero’s companion will appear as, especially since the new free-for-all map contains various graffiti that reference foxes.

Kanezaka Graffiti from Overwatch

When details were initially revealed for the upcoming character, it was teased that she would be connected in some way or another to the Shimada clan. If this is true and the unknown hero will truly have ties to Overwatch’s Genji and Hanzo, then it’s possible that she will also have similar powers to the Shimada brothers.

In line with this, it’s also possible that the fox will look similarly to Hanzo’s spirit dragons, which could mean that it will have a ghost-like appearance rather than having a solid, physical form. Of course, everything is purely theories right now, but it’s definitely exciting that the developer has finally started teasing the fans with new content.

That being said, it appears that the new Kanezaka map isn’t just potentially teasing one new hero but two. An area in Kanezaka features a billboard that appears to showcase the new Mech pilot, Brit.

In any case, these new discoveries have definitely gotten the community buzzing with excitement and we can’t wait for Blizzard to reveal more.

Taskmaster, Captain Marvel, Black Panther Fortnite Skins Leaked

maxresdefault-32-2

While Fortnite’s Marvel-themed season ended a few weeks ago, a new leak has emerged showing that there are still plenty of superheroes making their way into the game such as Taskmaster, Captain Marvel, and Black Panther. Players anticipated these character skins to make their way into the game during the fourth season but their late arrival is better than not coming at all.

Fortnite Chapter 2 Season 4 was the first of its kind, as the entirety of the season showcased an expansive crossover with Marvel Comics. Seasonn4’s battle pass gave players with exclusive Marvel-themed skins and multiple other items, and the storyline emphasized Marvel’s most popular heroes battling it against Galactus.

While the list of superheroes introduced during the season wasn’t able to fulfill every fans’ Marvel character wishlist, the creative director of the game revealed that Season 4 was only the start of years’ worth of Marvel crossover content.

According to reputable Fortnite dataminer FrenzyLeaks on Twitter, a new retail pack will be heading to the in-game store within the next few weeks which will include skins for Taskmaster, Captain Marvel, and Black Panther.

Each cosmetic will come with its own harvesting tool and back bling as well as two gliders. Based on the leaks, the Marvel Royalty and Warriors Pack will be releasing around December 22 and will be priced at $25. This is more than a bargain when comparing the possible prices of every item individually.

Notably, the skin for Black Panther was one of the most requested Marvel heroes that players wanted to see during the last season. In light of MCU star Chadwick Boseman’s recent and shocking death, some players agreed that this would have been a perfect way to honor his passing.

Previously, now-extinct leaks also claimed that Black Panther was still arriving in the fourth season because he was given his own map landmark, but these speculations never came to fruition. However, Black Panther will finally be making his debut in Fortnite along with two other iconic Marvel characters.

As the game continues to develop upon its already expansive collection of Marvel skins, it’s interesting to think who could be the next coming in gaming’s most ambitious crossover. Captain Marvel and Black Panther were instant picks for developer Epic Games since they were so popular from the recent blockbuster Marvel movies, but Taskmaster is somewhat of a welcome pick. The mix of obscure and popular Marvel characters keep the probabilities open that virtually any villain or hero could actually make their way into Fortnite.

Overwatch Introduces New Deathmatch Map

0
screenshot-www-youtube-com-2020-12-18-07_10_49

The Overwatch Winter Wonderland 2020 event has officially begun, and players were only expecting Blizzard to add festive skins and a new game mode in celebration of the holiday-themed event. However, the official Overwatch Twitter account announced a surprise a few hours ago in the form of a brand-new deathmatch map called Kanezaka.

While we don’t doubt that the developer is currently focusing all their time and efforts into working on Overwatch 2, fans of the franchise will definitely be pleased to know that the first iteration will still be receiving a bit of support.

For the first time in quite a while now, a new map has been added to Overwatch which offers Deathmatch players another option when it comes to which map they want to play on. Kanezaka will also be available even when players want to pass the time while waiting in queue, so the addition of this new map is definitely something to be excited about.

https://twitter.com/PlayOverwatch/status/1339284572106674177?s=20

Included in Overwatch’s tweet is a video showcasing the map, as well as confirmation from Blizzard that the new area is “now testing on the PTR.” Those players who want to assist the developer in ensuring that the new map will work smoothly upon its official release can go ahead and try out Kanezaka on Overwatch’s public test realm.

Another reason why playing on the PTR is advantageous to players is because this gives them the chance to think of map strategies that ensure victory before the other players who want to wait until the map is publicly released.

Since Kanezaka will only be available on Deathmatch, it most likely won’t stay in the testing phase for long. In other words, it won’t be long before Overwatch players will be able to explore every nook and cranny of the new map.

Based on the short video of Kanezaka, we can see that the new map offers a lot. The map, which is set in Japan, was created with the country’s “rich history” in mind. When exploring the location, players will easily notice the majestic trees and the skyscraping buildings. In addition, each area of Kanezaka was able to capture the familiar style that other Overwatch maps have.

Blizzard Entertainment was able to create a beautiful blend of both Busan and Hanamura, and some Overwatch heroes e.g. Hanzo look like they’ll fit right in this new place. According to the official tweet, Kanezaka also features interesting establishments.

There’s reportedly a “seedy nightclub” that players will most likely get to explore and destroy with their special abilities. Not only that, but the developer also confirms that a cat cafe will be present, which will surely please the support hero Brigitte whom we know to be a cat lover.

Unfortunately, the cat cafe doesn’t have any living cats roaming around, but the area is adorned with scratching posts and cat towers that allude to their existence.

It’s been a while since Blizzard released a decent amount of content for Overwatch. It’s safe to say that with the new map and the Winter Wonderland 2020 event, players are going to be busy this December.
