Biomutant Developer Explains Reason for Long Silence

The highly anticipated Biomutant finally received an official release date recently, but fans have been waiting for any news from the developer for quite a while. The team working on the upcoming game remained silent for what felt like forever that fans even thought that the game was canceled.

However, developer Experiment 101 has recently given an explanation regarding the game and why it took so long to finish developing. Experiment 101 was established back in 2015 by former Just Cause developers. The team then revealed Biomutant back in 2017 during the Gamescom event of that year.

During that time, publisher THQ Nordic expected the game to be released some time in 2018, but this wasn’t made possible. So many gamers looked forward to the game’s release, especially since Experiment 101 kept on impressing with every Biomutant gameplay footage that got released.

It touted innovative combat mechanics, an incredible open-world, as well as interesting anthropomorphic characters. As many gamers may know, especially those who kept following the game’s progress during that time, Biomutant was included in most-wanted games lists for several years.

Finally, after so long, Experiment 101 and THQ Nordic finally broke their silence and revealed that the highly awaited game will finally be released in May 2021.

That said, many wondered what took the developer so long. To answer that question, studio head Stefan Ljungqvist recently spoke with IGN, where he explained that Biomutant increased in scope as the years went by. For instance, the game’s script back in late 2019 had over 80,000 words—since then, though, it drastically rose to almost 250,000 words.

Not only that, developing a game with a scale as large as Biomutant is no small feat, especially since Experiment 101 is only composed of 20 developers. Ljungqvist explained that the team didn’t want to launch a glitch-filled game that wasn’t ready for release. As we all know by now, releasing a game such as that won’t end well. As such, the developer decided to take its time working on Biomutant, ensuring that it’s as polished as possible.

According to the IGN report, Experiment 101 wants to remain small in size. However, it can’t be denied that this decision will impose limitations and restrictions in terms of game development.

Ljungqvist states that QA proved especially difficult, especially since Biomutant has an open-world gameplay. Every time a bug gets discovered, the 20 developers have to be the ones to fix the issue.

Of course, it’s expected of an open-world game to have a few bugs and glitches here and there upon release, but developer Experiment 101 doesn’t want any game-breaking ones included during launch.

Even though Experiment 101 took such a long time developing Biomutant, Ljungqvist states that publisher THQ Nordic remained patient with their team. It’s great that the publisher didn’t pressure them into releasing the game as fast as possible, as this made Experiment 101 avoid mandatory crunch times—an unhealthy industry practice.

From what we can see so far, it’s hard to believe that only 20 developers worked on a large-scale game like Biomutant, and we’re certainly impressed. With Biomutant and countless other upcoming games getting released this year, 2021 will definitely be an exciting year for gamers worldwide.

Apex Legends Season 8 Patch Notes Released Early

The launch date of Apex Legends Season 8, which has been entitled “Mayhem,” is drawing closer and closer, and players can expect a plethora of new changes and features. For instance, fans can not only expect the new explosive Legend called Fuse, but Season 8 also introduces a new and improved King’s Canyon map, buffs for various legends, several changes to the game’s matchmaking and ranked games, and a brand-new weapon, among other things.

In anticipation of the upcoming season, Respawn Entertainment has released the game’s patch notes early, giving fans a more in-depth look at all the changes coming to the first-person hero shooter battle royale.

It was revealed last week that Apex Legends will be introducing a new weapon for the first time since Season 6. The 30-30 Repeater, which is essentially a semi-auto heavy weapon, is said to fire faster than a Longbow. However, it’s supposed to be slower than a G7. Not only that, but the 30-30 Repeater will work similarly to the choke on the Triple Take in that it can charge. Doing so gives each shot from this weapon around 35% more damage.

The patch notes also reveal the changes made to Apex Legends’ ranked system. Previously, the game’s Ranked Points (RP) was dealt out to only the top 10 in a match, but this time around, it will be the top 13. Not only that, more points will be given for kills and assists.

Apex Legends ranked players will also be happy to know that the time window for assists will be increased from 7 seconds to 10. These changes and improvements are much appreciated, especially since it shows that Respawn Entertainment is making an effort to assist players in reaching the rank that suits their abilities the best. As for Diamond trails, they will also be making a comeback at the conclusion of Season 8.

When it comes to the Legends, Respawn Entertainment confirmed that a couple of Legends will be receiving changes either before or as soon as Season 8 begins. For instance, Senior Game Designer Daniel Klein previously confirmed that the team finally implemented HP for Rampart’s tactical wall while in the process of building. This helps ensure that the wall doesn’t get destroyed so quickly.

On the other hand, the mighty Wraith will be getting a nerf instead. We assume that it’s going to be some kind of adjustment to the character’s hitbox. This caused a bit of controversy when the fans found out, especially since Wraith has an incredibly high win-rate during matches, and is considered to be one of the most popular Legends among the fans.

Last but not least, King’s Canyon will finally be returning to Apex Legends’ map rotation after quite a long time of being M.I.A. Although, the map has undergone a couple of changes as well, namely the map is now known as Obliterated King’s Canyon. This ties into a part of Season 8’s story line, where Salvo attempted to kill Fuse for joining the Syndicates Apex Games. The fight resulted in the destruction of the original King’s Canyon.

Among other things, rumors have been circulating recently that the Apex Legends Switch port will be released this month, within a few days. Evidence regarding this leak seems to grow, but we have yet to hear an official announcement from Respawn Entertainment.

Writer of Star Wars: Squadrons Joins Warner Bros. Montreal for Gotham Knights Game

It has been confirmed that Mitch Dyer, one of the writers who helped work on popular titles such as Star Wars: Squadrons and Star Wars Battlefront 2, is currently working on Gotham Knights, the highly anticipated action-RPG under the Batman franchise. This will mark Dyer’s first time working on a game with publisher Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment.

Gotham Knights was first revealed in 2020, and it plans on separating itself from the usual titles in the popular Arkham series by allowing players to control Red Hood, Nightwing, Batgirl, and Robin instead. What makes this even more interesting is the fact that Gotham Knights will take place after the death of the beloved Bruce Wayne, which also means that Batman won’t be in the game as a playable character.

Dyer posted a tweet recently, which commended Gotham Knights’ Montreal team, who already begun working on the game. He also stated that “they’re making something really special.” As far as we can tell, Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment is making an effort to avoid the problems that gamers criticized Marvel’s Avengers for. For one thing, the solo campaign for the upcoming Gotham Knights won’t need an internet connection, so solo players can enjoy the game anytime and anywhere.

According to Dyer’s LinkedIn profile, he notes that his specialties include character development and dialogue. As such, it’s highly likely that his role in Gotham Knights will be related to these two things, like improving various scenes and writing killer lines for the characters.

Dyer’s addition to the team makes sense at this point, especially since the list of Batman’s allies and enemies in Gotham Knights has already been revealed. When a game is in development, its story and how each character fits into said story are usually figured out early on, and it appears that Dyer’s specialties would be perfect for this part in the game’s development. He could help fix any loose ends in Gotham Knights’ current story line, as well as remedy any overarching issues that could come up once everything comes together.

Although fans are somewhat concerned about Gotham Knights’ gameplay mechanics based on the teasers and trailers released so far, the general reception of the game’s visuals and style has been more or less positive. Only time will tell whether the story will be able to reach the fans’ expectations and its overall visuals, but given the fact that Gotham Knights already begins with Batman’s death, it’s clear to see that Warner Bros. was more than willing to take a few risks.

Left 4 Dead 2 No Longer Censored in Germany

Left 4 Dead 2 is one of the most classic and iconic multiplayer games in the video game community. It was incredibly popular back then after releasing in 2009, especially given how active its modding community was.

Fans of the Left 4 Dead franchise are known to be extremely passionate about it, so much so that the community created a Left 4 Dead 2 fan-made update known as The Last Stand, which was initially announced and launched in September of last year. However, for the longest time, German fans were only given access to a censored version of the series—that is, until now.

For a little bit of context, it’s not uncommon for Germany to censor and ban games that have themes of violence, and this has been the case for quite a while now. For instance, when the first-person shooter Half-Life was released in 1998, it remained censored in Germany until 2017—nearly two decades after its release. On the other hand, Bethesda’s Fallout 3 was completely banned from the country for more or less eight years.

Germany has been making an effort to become more open to certain content, and this can be seen in the way it lifted the total ban on Nazi imagery back in 2018 to instead implement a system that evaluated games on a case-by-case basis.

Until this week, the German versions of Left 4 Dead 2 were censored in several different ways, according to a report by Engadget. For instance, anything that could be deemed as violent was removed, including fire-based weapons, any and all kinds of blood effects, and dismemberment. As a matter of fact, the censor even went as far as to restore the missing zombie thumb on the game’s cover art.

Last week, on January 28, Valve announced in an update post on Steam that it requested the German authorities to evaluate Left 4 Dead 2 again, and now, the uncut international version of the game is finally available in Germany.

For the fans living in Germany who already bought a copy of the prior censored version, they can download a free DLC released by Valve that will automatically convert their Left 4 Dead copy to that of its uncensored version. However, they can also keep its cut form and not change a thing if they prefer.

With the recent The Last Stand update, the waves of mods that offer a range of changes to the game, and now this uncut form for German fans, there are numerous reasons to hop back into this classic zombie-slaying title.

However, those who no longer want to return to the Left 4 Dead franchise but still want more action-packed zombie action similar to it are in luck. Developer Turtle Rock Studios, who created the highly acclaimed Left 4 Dead, will be releasing a spiritual successor in June called Back 4 Blood. This was first announced during The Game Awards 2020 along with a trailer.

While we expect Left 4 Dead 2 to have a spike in German players this 2021, the dominating video game genre in 2020 was more on the casual side. Ridding the demons from the city is not going to be an easy task, and you will see the elves teaming with the Nightfallen rebellion to complete the task at hand. The biggest threat sees Gul’dan attempting to summon Sargeras within the Nighthold, and it’s worth stating that the zone is worth exploring for the story alone.

How to Access Suramar

The way in which Suramar works differs from other zones within Legion. In fact, Suramar in World of Warcraft is exclusive to characters that are at level 110. Even though you can still take a look around the zone, and perform tasks such as collecting mana or killing mobs, you won’t be able to take on any of the quests here. You will notice that once you have reached level 110 that the Dungeon Guide icon will start flashing.

This is where you will have the choice of starting Khadgar’s Discovery, which is the tutorial quest of sorts for Suramar, or you can do a different version of the quest by going to the new Dalaran. You will then get a distress signal in the following quest from the Arcane Anomaly, where a portal to Suramar is opened by Khadgar.

Storylines and Side Quests

The predominant storyline within Suramar revolves around introducing players to The Nightfallen. You will be introduced to the once First Arcanist of Suramar City, Thalyssra, and will be shown how she comes across new allies and what guides her to take Shal’Aran as the refugees’ home. Once you have completed the storyline, you will be able to unlock the scenario entitled Withered Army Training.

Then you have side stories in which you will find that there are quest chains that are connected to the initial main narrative. You will find a number of side quests that need to be completed for you to unlock certain areas of the zone, as well as world quests and dungeons. For example, if you want to unlock dungeons such as Court of Stars and The Arcway, then you will find the quest required to do so within the side story chapter called Statecraft. For this quest line, you will need to have 8,000 reputation with The Nightfallen, and the Blood and Wine chapter will need to have been finished. You can then get The Perfect Opportunity quest from First Arcanist Thalyyssra which begins Statecraft.

You will also find optional quests too that don’t rely on the main storyline or the side quest chains that come with it. More will become available as you finish Nightfall, and you can gain around 6900 Artifact Power and 400 Ancient Mana which can come in handy for those who have just hit the required 110 level for your character.

Teleporting

Given its short amount of flight points, Suramar instead opts for a teleportation network for you to use when traversing the area. In total, there is 9 different teleporter beacons in Suramar, some of which you can activate with Ancient Mana, whilst others rely on advancing through the story to unlock them. You can use the teleporters to get to the main hub, Shal’Aran, and back. To unlock this system, you will need to have finished the Chief Telemancer Oculeth chapter that’s part of the Suramar storyline.

You are now ready to explore the Suramar in more depth, once you have met the requirements of course. You won’t have to resort to having to buy WoW gold, but there are criteria that you will have to meet in order to get to where you need to be in Suramar.

New additions to the Fortnite item shop are always a welcome change, so when the Mandalorian made its way to the battle royale title with the fifth season of Chapter 2, it was a welcome addition to all fans who had been looking to see the Star Wars character make an appearance since the leaks started to surface online. We saw a new Mandalorian skin, we saw the character smashing into the island, with the crash site looking to be more than meets the eye.

What Else is Coming to Fortnite?

The number of crossovers that we have seen as of late, as well as the crash site now appearing, has to lead to fans trying to figure out what they can expect to see next. With the likes of Halo’s Master Chief and Kratos from God of War fame making appearances in the title, it would seem that the sky’s the limit. Trying to figure out just what could be coming next seems to be more difficult than ever before to guess what could be coming to Fortnite.

The Crash Site

You will notice that there is a new desert biome located on the map which plays host to the crashed ship of The Mandalorian. You will also spot the character himself walking around that particular area, who you can attack to get a hold of the thermal sniper rifle. There isn’t much else to do with the Fortnite tie in with Mandalorian, or so it seems.

Sources suggest that an Epic Games concept artist is expecting changes to come to Fortnite later in the season where the crash site is concerned. What the changes are going to remain to be seen, though it would seem that Epic is by no means done with crossovers.

The Stealthy Stronghold location has played a huge part in the online speculation as the season has progressed, which on the surface seems to be high walls surrounding a jungle location. This leads to rumors that a Predator crossover could be coming to the game, much to the delight of that particular franchise. This seems to be a sure-fire thing as it has been all but confirmed by the game’s developers, especially where the teases are concerned. These included an audio transmission which not only mentioned Predators, but also the date that the original movie hit the big screen.

Whether this comes true or not, it is obvious to see that Fortnite has no intention of slowing down with the crossovers in the game. This is bound to have attracted a wealth of new players to Fortnite, giving even more popularity to a title that continues to take the industry by storm. Could we be seeing predators in Fortnite? And what of the crash site of the Mandalorian? Whatever is coming next, we hopefully won’t have to wait much longer to see what Epic Games has in store for the continually growing fanbase that it is attracting as of late.
