Hyrule Warriors Age of Calamity Exceeds 3.5 Million Sales

0

Hyrule Warriors Age of Calamity, the Musou spinoff of Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild has achieved 3.5 million sales, according to Koei Tecmo, the game’s publisher. The sequel to 2014’s Hyrule Warriors, Age of Calamity mixes Dynasty Warriors’ gameplay and the world as well as characters of Breath of the Wild. It sold more than 3 million copies within its first week of launch, making it the most successful Musou title so far.

Set a hundred years before the events in Breath of the Wild, Hyrule Warriors Age of Calamity stands out against not only its ancestor but also the other titles in its genre by producing an original and cohesive story that extends on the plot established by Breath of the Wild, making it a must-have game for all Zelda fans.

The game also successfully translates several of the gameplay elements from Breath of the Wild including the flurry rush and paraglider, while also offering various skillsets for the game’s roster of characters.

Koei Tecmo recently released its latest earnings report for the third quarter of its fiscal year, displaying the sales performance of some of its games. The report shows that by the end of December 2020, more than 3.5 million units of Hyrule Warriors Age of Calamity have been shipped since it released back in November 2020, which is around half a million more copies since the game’s first week of launch. The remarkable number further cements the game’s place as the bestselling Musou game ever.

The report also features Koei Tecmo’s other games such as Atelier Ryza 2; Lost Legends and the Secret Fairy, which was launched in Japan a few weeks ago and has sold more than 220,000 copies since, making it one of the most downloaded PlayStation 5 games of 2020 in the region.

The sequel to Atelier Ryza is set to launch worldwide this week. Nioh 2 by Team Ninja, which is also published by Koei Tecmo, also performed well with more than 1.4 million copies shipped, which is thanks in part to the launch of its second and third expansion in October and December, respectively.

Hyrule Warriors Age of Calamity is proof that Musou games can provide more than just the same experience and become remarkably successful when executed well. Developer Omega Force’s past crossover launch Persona 5 Strikers, which is set for a worldwide release next month, is also another successful example of a very well executed Musou game that provides much more than the genre it is developed on.

Hopefully, Koei Tecmo and Omega Force are able to keep up or even boost the quality of its future releases and constantly elevate even further.

Call of Duty Mobile Adds Desperado Class In Next Season’s Battle Royale

Call of Duty Mobile new Desperado class will introduce Shield Turrets to the battle royale mode. Since releasing in 2019, Call of Duty Mobile has become a big player in the mobile gaming scene, earning hundreds of millions in its first year alone. Many have admired how identical Call of Duty Mobile is to the original game.

A new Call of Duty Mobile season, called “New Order,” is scheduled to release a few days from now. It promises to be an interesting addition to the series. Fortunately, for fans who are yearning to get their hands flying for another year of the game, the new season will also introduce a new class – Desperado.

According to Call of Duty Mobile’s official Twitter page, the Desperado class will allow players to be “an offensive defender” and “get back into the fight with Last Stand!” The new class will also feature a popular perk and equipment from the Call of Duty franchise.

codm-s1-2021-7356186

First up, the class will introduce the Shield Turret as its equipment bonus. Loyal Call of Duty fans will recognize that the Shield Turret is a killstreak in Call of Duty Modern Warfare as well as a scorestreak in Call of Duty Mobile multiplayer mode.

The Shield Turret scorestreak was introduced to Call of Duty Mobile as part of Season 9’s Conquest update last year. The turret can be deployed anywhere on the map, giving cover to the player using it. The turret has unlimited ammo with a shield in front providing cover from enemy gunfire.

However, the shield does not protect the turret gun itself. With only a bit of HP, the turret is quite vulnerable to enemy attacks and can be destroyed easily. If the enemy is still able to survive the shower of bullets coming from the turret, the second feature of the Desperado class, the Last Stand, will come in handy. The Last Stand is a perk that has existed in past Call of Duty games and dates back to Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare.

https://twitter.com/PlayCODMobile/status/1353371990288195584?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1353371990288195584%7Ctwgr%5E&ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fscreenrant.com%2Fcod-mobile-season-1-desperado-shield-turret-battle%2F

Last Stand gives players one last chance for vengeance when they have received fatal damage. Generally, with the perk equipped, the player would only fall down rather than dying upon taking fatal damage and pull out a pistol with max ammo. They will not be able to move nor swap weapons but will be able to shoot enemies until the pistol runs out of bullets, the timer on the perk ends, or they are hit by a killstreak or explosion.

Future Titles by Warner Bros. Most Likely to be Live Service Ones

screenshot-irs-www-warnerbros-com-2021-01-26-07_41_52

Based on recent findings, there’s a high chance that future games by Warner Bros. Interactive will focus more on live service elements. According to Twitter user MauroNL, the company currently has an internship listening “tucked away” in its official website, and this listing mentions the direction the studio is taking its upcoming titles.

As you may or may not know, the live service genre is a controversial, heavily debated topic in the video game industry. Live service games are basically the kind of titles that still receive regular support and updates from the developer even after its release. On the bright side, it gives developers the chance to introduce new content and features to a game even years after the game’s initial launch, which ensures that the title remains fresh and interesting for a longer period of time.

On the downside, it gives some studios the opportunity to simply release a half-baked game at launch, as it can still be fixed through regular updates and hotfixes after release. It can’t be denied, however, that companies can greatly benefit and profit from this kind of video game format. As such, you can expect more live service games in the future, especially for the next-generation consoles.

MauroNL states that they got their information from the career page on the Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment website. The company is currently working on a variety of games, but all of them have “a heavy focus on live-service.” No matter the platform, this particular listing implies that future games will have this kind of format.

Although Warner Bros. didn’t exactly make an official announcement about this, we also can’t discredit this kind of official internship listing. For one thing, Back 4 Blood—the publisher’s recently revealed multiplayer survival horror game—will have live service elements.

That being said, it doesn’t seem as if all of upcoming Warner Bros. games can be categorized into the live service genre. For instance, MauroNL mentions other titles like Gotham Knights, LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga, and the highly anticipated Harry Potter: Hogwarts Legacy.

hero_1598488526-sized-5034338

Based on the trailers of these aforementioned titles, we can’t say for sure if they will be receiving any kind of post-launch update or addition. However, it’s worth mentioning that multiplayer titles are the ones that usually implement live service elements, while these games mostly focus on their story or narrative.

The various titles that utilize live service elements vary in results, from great to awful. For example, we have the Final Fantasy 14 game, which has received regular updates for several years now. As a matter of fact, many fans think that its recent Shadowbringers expansion is one of the best.

On the other hand, another live service game called Anthem disappointed many fans, as it was released with a plethora of bugs. Its developer, BioWare, simply promised that it would fix and improve the game via updates over time.

In any case, let’s not dwell too much on the negatives. After all, the video game industry is always changing and improving, so there’s a chance that at this point, Warner Bros. knows what aspects make a live service game good and will implement these on its future games.

Zelda Fan Shares 3D Recreation of Link: The Faces of Evil’s Morshu

The Legend of Zelda franchise has a secret—one that Nintendo refuses to acknowledge even to this day. This dark spot in the long-running franchise’s history comes in the form of the Philips CD-i games, namely Link: The Faces of Evil and Zelda: The Wand of Gamelon.

Just because the pair of games received so much negative reviews from the fanbase doesn’t necessarily mean they’ve forgotten them either. In fact, the two titles have an infamous status in the community. Even today, there are still fan-made projects and other creative content inspired by these two bizarre games.

Last year, an amateur developer worked on creating enhanced, re-imagined versions of both Link: The Faces of Evil and Zelda: The Wand of Gamelon. It was definitely an incredible fan-made project that took about four years to complete. Fans who were quick enough were able to download and play the enhanced versions, with some saying that it played significantly better than the original titles. Unfortunately, the developer has since removed the download links for the two games.

This time around, however, 3D artist Hoolopee shared their own entry, featuring one of the most notorious and memorable characters within the world of Link: The Faces of Evil. The 3D artist’s previous works revolved around creating haunting and disturbing 3D models, and this recent Legend of Zelda-inspired one is just as grotesque.

This most recent fan art inspired by the Philips CD-i games features Morshu, who had the role of a merchant in Link: The Faces of Evil. Now, Hoolopee recreated the character’s design using Blender, and even animated and replicated his exact animations from the game.

The result is an incredible yet disturbing addition to the artist’s list of equally horrifying 3D renders. What’s impressive is the fact that Hoolopee was able to accurately translate the 2D character into 3D—even the background. Every part of Morshu’s animation was perfectly brought to life in this recreation, from his movements to his facial expressions.

https://twitter.com/Hoolopee/status/1352950748997447680?s=20

The 3D recreation was done so well that Hoolopee even included a side-by-side comparison on his Twitter account, and it shows how the 3D version and the original 2D one match almost perfectly. It’s clear to see that the 3D artist put a lot of time and effort into this project, and we commend them for it—no matter how disturbing the project may be.

The CD-i Zelda games already had over-exaggerated animations to begin with, and it becomes even more over-the-top when recreated and animated with Blender. So, as we can only imagine, this piece of art probably reached the expectations that Hoolopee originally had before diving into this project.

Short clips like this fit right into the “cursed image” category that’s so popular on the internet, joining the ranks of the CD-i Zelda games’ meme-worthy scenes and animations. Despite how even more disturbing Morshu looks, though, this piece by Hoolopee is undoubtedly incredible and extremely well-done.

As such, we’re curious to see if they will work on recreating and animating other characters from the Zelda CD-i games, or if they will move on to other projects. Either way, we look forward to the next one!

Pokemon Sword and Shield Hackers Will Be Banned From Online Play & Pokemon Home

Players who are caught using hacked Pokemon will be banned from using online features in Sword and Shield as well as forbidden to use Pokemon Home, as part of a ban wave implemented by The Pokemon Company. The Pokemon series has witnessed the effects of cheating since day one because of a number of various factors.

The main Pokemon entries have seen players have to make use of cheats in order to breed competitive Pokemon without spending tons of hours actually breeding them. Looking for a Pokemon with the perfect stats and the right Nature can take weeks of monotonous work, so it’s not shocking that players would want to save themselves time by just writing that Pokemon into life. Hacking has also expanded to the spinoff games, with the makes of Pokemon Go recently winning a $5 million lawsuit against infamous cheat-makers.

Pokemon players using cheats will soon find themselves unable to utilize online features associated with the games. According to Serebii, The Pokemon Company has revealed that a new ban wave is coming and that it will affect players who have modified their save data. These kinds of ban waves will become a regular occurrence in the future, as a preventive measure against cheaters.

Those who get bans will temporarily or permanently lose access to various online features in Pokemon Sword and Shield, which means that they won’t be able to join battles online or trade with other players.

The fact that all local tournaments have been postponed because of the ongoing global pandemic means that this ban will stop cheating in the short-term. Banned players will also be unable to use Pokemon Home, which will make it a lot more difficult for them to trade Pokemon.

This is all made more disastrous for hackers and potential cheaters by the fact that banned players will be declined refunds. The Pokemon Company could expand these measures in the future, though it is uncertain how it might progress.

Cheating has always been a problem in the competitive side of Pokemon Sword and Shield since it was released. This issue isn’t just affecting hacked Pokemon, as some players are exploiting bugs to try and avoid taking losses. The development team has since made it simpler than ever to breed competitive Pokemon in the Galar region but it can still be a long process, and not everyone has the patience to do mass breeding.

Only a couple of weeks have passed since ColourPop Cosmetics announced that it was collaborating with the highly beloved Nintendo Switch game, Animal Crossing: New Horizons. Now, the lifestyle brand has finally revealed each item in the makeup collection, their prices, as well as the collection’s launch date.

Needless to say, Animal Crossing and its lovable characters have a special place in the hearts of fans, especially after they were reintroduced to the players when the Switch-exclusive New Horizons was released last March 2020.

Although fans have a tendency to compare the different villagers and pit their ranking against other players’ preferences, we’re sure that dedicated fans are thrilled to see that some cosmetic products in the collection feature makeup inspired by some of the most iconic villagers in the game.

The ColourPop x Animal Crossing: New Horizons collection is set to launch on January 28, 2021, at 10:00AM PST, and it will feature 11 products overall. Specifically, fans will find two pressed powder blushes, three lip tint sets, four eyeshadow palettes, a single glitter shadow, and another single eyeshadow pot in the collection.

Although fans have the option to choose the products they like the most and buy them individually, hardcore players can also purchase the collection in its entirety upon release if they want to.

As for pricing, each of the four eyeshadow palettes will cost $12, but each one will consist of four different eyeshadow colors. The packaging features different villagers, depending on the palette of choice, including the highly beloved Isabelle, the Able Sisters, Blathers & Celeste, and Tom Nook and the Nooklings.

The two pressed powder blushes will also cost $12, and the names of each revolve around gardening, which is one of the most popular activities in Animal Crossing: New Horizons. Those who particularly like the in-game Cosmos and Windflowers will surely appreciate and enjoy the blush products and their embossed designs.

Just like the other two, the three lip tint sets will also be priced at $12. For this set, ColourPop chose to feature six of the most popular fruits that players can grow and harvest on their respective islands. The single items, on the other hand, deviate from the usual $12 price point.

Namely, the Super Shock eyeshadow pot that has been labeled as “Balloon Pop” will be priced at $7. As for the “Bellionaire” glitter pot, however, interested fans who want this product will have to fork over more cash—specifically $10.

For those who have the extra funds to buy the complete makeup collection, they’ll need to prepare at least $125, as the full set will more or less have that price range.

Seeing as the release date for the ColourPop x Animal Crossing: New Horizons makeup collection is almost upon us, interested buyers should ready their wallets as soon as possible, especially since ColourPop collaborations are known to sell out quickly upon release.

Nintendo hasn’t revealed any upcoming in-game event for fans to look forward to yet, so players will just have to settle for this exciting new makeup collaboration for now to quench their need for more New Horizons content.

More Pokemon-Inspired Nanoblock Sets Are Expected To Release This Year

The 25th anniversary of the highly beloved Pokemon franchise is almost upon us, and asides from a nostalgic video that celebrated the entirety of the franchise so far, it appears that fans can look forward to even more surprises for this year-long event.

Needless to say that a franchise as massive and as loved as this one deserves a big celebration—one that truly encapsulates its success and the joy it was able to bring to others throughout its 25 years. Even though the 25th anniversary doesn’t officially begin until February, the company has already been slowly rolling out the festivities.

While fans are undoubtedly itching to get their hands on New Pokemon Snap and learn any information about other upcoming titles in the long-running series, other companies with commemorative merchandise have also joined in on the celebration. For instance, it was previously announced that there will be a new set of Funko Pops for the 25th anniversary, as well as a high-quality figure of Pokemon Black and White’s N.

That being said, it seems that there’s even more where that came from, and even more Pokemon-themed products will be available to fans soon. The Pokemon Company and Kawada—the company who manufactures the miniscule blocks known as Nanoblocks—partnered together back in 2013 to release special Nanoblocks inspired by various Pokemon.

The Pokemon released during that time were only from the Kanto region, but the partnership has been going strong as ever, and a myriad of Pokemon from different regions and generations have been given Nanoblock versions since then.

Now, brand-new sets of Pokemon Nanoblocks have been listed on Rakuten, a Japanese online retail company, and are expected to release some time in April 2021.

Fans who enjoy collecting novelty merchandise should definitely check these new sets out. Pokemon Nanoblocks are great because they’re not as expensive as other figures, and they can be assembled by fans on their own. Two of the new sets will feature Pokemon Sword and Shield‘s new Legendary Pokemon known as Kubfu, which was recently introduced in the Isle of Armor DLC expansion.

The fan-favorite Garchomp is the second set out of the two new ones. According to Rakuten’s website, each one of these upcoming sets is priced at ¥1099. It also notes that the Kubfu set contains 160 pieces, while the Garchomp one has 210 pieces.

Among other things, Kawada will also be releasing a 6-figure mini-set featuring Grass-type Pokemon. Although it will consist of six mini-figures, the only Pokemon that have been revealed so far for this set are Bulbasaur and Venusaur. Consisting of only 65 pieces, this 6-figure set is priced at ¥3120.

CD Projekt RED Offers Temporary Fix for Ongoing Takemura Holocall Bug in Cyberpunk 2077

0
screenshot-www-youtube-com-2021-01-26-05_12_57

After CD Projekt RED released Cyberpunk 2077, the game quickly became one of the most controversial titles in the history of gaming. The game’s console version, particularly on the last-generation ones, performed so badly that countless players requested full refunds from their respective retailers or digital storefronts.

Not only that, the title is full of bugs and glitches, some of which are game-breaking and can hamper a player’s progress. Developer CD Projekt RED has been doing its best to release patch after patch in an effort to stabilize the game and squash the countless bugs. However, the most recent major update—Version 1.1—introduced a new game-breaking bug instead.

For those who were lucky enough not to encounter the bug, it takes place after Takemura makes a phonecall to V in order to successfully finish the “Down on the Street” story mission. For players whose playthrough is affected by the bug, Takemura doesn’t say anything at all during the call, which means they can’t progress and close off the mission.

screenshot-www-youtube-com-2021-01-26-05_13_26

Now, it appears that developer CD Projekt RED has acknowledged the existence of this game-breaking bug, and has even shared a temporary workaround for players while it works on a more permanent fix.

According to the developer’s official support website, players who are affected by the bug should try reloading a save file before going in Wakako Okada’s office with Takemura. Once ready to leave, the character will want to talk to V first, and the studio states that players should finish this conversation as soon as they leave Okada’s office.

After the conversation ends and the game updates the questline, players must skip forward 23 hours with the wait function. If all goes well, this should trigger the holocall scene and hopefully, Takemura should start talking. The problem with this temporary solution, however, is that players need to have a save file before the final scenes of the Down on the Street mission. Of course, not every player would have this kind of save file.

https://twitter.com/CDPRED_Support/status/1353680154594258944?s=20

Cyberpunk 2077 fans also took to Reddit to share their own temporary workarounds, with one player claiming that they were able to fix the issue by calling up Judy and staying on the phone with her until around the time Takemura is supposed to call.

After ending the call with Judy, the player finished off another side quest, waited for another 24 hours, and then Takemura was able to actually talk when he called. Another player on Reddit had a different process in temporarily fixing the issue. For this fan, they first answered the call from Takemura before driving off to an unknown area in order to do an unknown mission.

After arriving to the designated area, the phone call with Takemura got hung up because Regina called the player to brief them on the quest. The player then did a couple of side jobs before saving and reloading the game—these steps triggered Takemura to call once again, but with dialogue this time.

Of course, we can’t be sure if those fan-discovered workarounds actually work for everyone, but if CD Projekt RED’s fix doesn’t work, then there’s no harm in trying out the other strategies. Thankfully, the studio is aware of this ongoing issue, so hopefully the next major patch will include a fix for it.

BioWare Confirms Dragon Age 4’s Setting

0
screenshot-www-youtube-com-2021-01-26-05_05_09

Fans have been looking forward to Dragon Age 4 ever since its initial announcement, but developer BioWare has remained incredibly secretive when it comes to this upcoming RPG. Fans have been living off of the information gleaned from teasers released so far, but there’s not a lot of that to begin with either.

For one thing, fans were able to confirm a couple of returning characters and barely anything else—although recently, fans now know where Dragon Age 4 will be set. The book entitled BioWare: Stories and Secrets from 25 Years of Game Development was released recently, and the pages of this book confirmed that the upcoming action-RPG will take place in Tevinter.

In actuality, fans have been speculating the game’s location for quite some time now, and many assumed that it would be Tevinter. So while this revelation isn’t at all surprising for some, it serves as the first official confirmation from BioWare.

screenshot-www-youtube-com-2021-01-26-08_59_15

Eurogamer’s Tom Phillips was the one who noticed this important piece of information, and he also stated that the book confirmed more than just Dragon Age 4’s setting. More specifically, the book also features a couple of Dragon Age 4 art, which seems to imply that players will be able to explore areas outside of Tevinter as well, such as Nevarra and Antiva City.

There are other possible areas that the book has revealed as well, including The Deep Roads, which is a wide dwarven tunnel system. Previous games in the Dragon Age franchise also featured this expansive tunnel system, so it’s not at all surprising if it would return in Dragon Age 4.

Last but not least, the book also contains art of the Lords of Fortune. The Lords of Fortune are located in Rivain, which makes fans wonder if this area will also be in the upcoming title as well. Although, it’s worth noting that as of this writing, BioWare has only confirmed Tevinter and everything else is just speculation at this point.

As mentioned, Dragon Age 4’s teasers, trailers, and concept art confirmed who the returning characters will be. Some of these characters include Dorian, Varric, Solas the Dread Wolf, and Isabella. Although, the roles they will be playing and how important they will be in Dragon Age 4 have yet to be confirmed.

screenshot-www-youtube-com-2021-01-26-09_00_08

On the bright side, the closer we get to the game’s release date, the more information BioWare will reveal. On the downside, no one really knows when Dragon Age 4 will be released. At this point, BioWare has revealed so little about the upcoming title that it may still be years before it hits store shelves.

In any case, many fans expected Dragon Age 4 to take place in Tevinter because Dragon Age: Inquisition’s Trespasser DLC heavily teased this fact. Spoilers ahead for those who haven’t started or finished the DLC yet, but it basically concludes with the Inquisitor marking Tevinter Imperium on a map using a dagger. As such, it made sense that fans who finished the DLC and watched this end scene would assume that the next game in the franchise would be set in Tevinter.

While many fans weren’t mind-blown by this information, it was still nice to have an official confirmation after years of speculation. We don’t know when BioWare will reveal more details about Dragon Age 4, but we can’t wait for the next piece of information.

Super Mario 3D World Will Have Gyro Support

0
nswitch_supermario3dworldandbowsersfury_18

The release date of Nintendo’s Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury is almost upon us, and the company has been slowly revealing new and interesting details about the upcoming title with each passing day. In fact, Nintendo recently unveiled new information about the Bowser’s Fury expansion, giving fans an idea of what to expect, how long the new content is going to play for, as well as its gameplay itself.

Not only that, a bunch of new screenshots using the upcoming game’s photo mode was posted on the Nintendo UK website, too. That being said, Bowser’s Fury isn’t going to be the only new thing in this enhanced Nintendo Switch port. The base game itself, Super Mario 3D World, will be receiving a few changes that will make the players’ overall experience even better.

The official Nintendo UK website for Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury confirms that the upcoming title will support gyro controls. Although, it’s worth mentioning that this support will only be available for certain parts of the game, specifically those parts that once required touch controls.

supermario3dworld_bowersfury_supermario3dworld_save_chars-9421718

Thanks to the game’s initial reveal trailer, which teased gameplay adjustments, fans already had a good idea of some of the changes and tweaks made to Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury. For instance, fans noticed that the overall movement speed of the Nintendo Switch port was much faster when compared to the original Wii U version.

However, the original Wii U version had a gameplay mechanic that heavily relied on touch controls. Of course, this element wouldn’t be that easy to carry over to the Nintendo Switch. Fortunately, the company has finally confirmed that players will be able to utilize gyro controls instead, giving players a seamless gameplay experience once Super Mario 3D World launches for the Nintendo Switch.

Nintendo UK is probably talking about the parts in Super Mario 3D World that revolved around Captain Toad, which are peppered throughout the different in-game worlds. The gyro controls for the Captain Toad sections will probably play the same way as Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker’s Switch port.

Even though the Wii U version of Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker also relied on touch controls, just like the original Super Mario 3D World game did, the Switch port introduced gyro support. In this case, there was an on-screen cursor which allowed players to interact with the game’s various levels. It was a commendable solution, especially since it allowed players to enjoy the game without having to rely on the Switch’s handheld mode in order to play it.

supermario3dworld_bowersfury_supermario3dworld_friends_img-6765078

That being said, it’s highly possible that touch control will still be an option for those players who prefer the console’s handheld mode. This hasn’t been confirmed by Nintendo yet, but the Switch port of Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker had that option.

Among other things, the UK website confirmed one other gameplay tweak as well, and it’s the fact that player character’s will have the ability to climb further than ever before thanks to the Super Bell powerup.

All of these gameplay adjustments and additions are most definitely welcome, and should make Super Mario 3D World an even better game than it already was the first time around.
