Spellbreak Chapter One: Spellstorm Now Live

A massive new update is now available for Spellbreak, bringing Chapter One: Spellstorm to the magic-based battle royale. The wait has finally ended for the game’s biggest content drop yet, as fans are now able to play the game in a whole new way.

Spellbreak released a few months ago, accumulating decent reviews, but a few fans had complaints about the game lacking content and a dull map. Chapter One: Spellstorm tries to address some of these problems head-on. Featuring new story elements, the Spellstorm update comes with a chapter pass, map improvements, and innovations to the gameplay.

The wizardry and magic of Spellbreak has a rather remarkable chapter pass coming with this update, as players will be able to unlock tons of new gear and content. There will be 72 new quests coming along with Chapter One: Spellbreak, giving players much to do this holiday season.

The map improvements add more depth to the world, and more areas to explore, which helps some of the locations on the map that appear dull. In the meantime, the trailer of the new chapter features portals that can be utilized to traverse to new areas on the map, as well as geyser-like energy forces that bounce players up in the air to give them a tactical advantage.

Spellbreak began rather hot, hitting 5 million players in just under three weeks. However, some of the excitement behind the game has now gone down, which is reasonable. The online multiplayer shooter and battle royale mode are rather crowded. Although much of its success can be found in these parts, it is also easy for a game to fall off the charts quickly.

The hope is that updates such as Spellstorm will both bring back old players and charm new ones to join. With constant updates, bringing new content, elements, and gameplay, developer Proletariat, Inc. could provide Spellbreak the chance to last a long time.

Adorable Cat Cafe Game ‘Calico’ Released on PC, Xbox, and Switch

Animal lovers will be thrilled to hear about this one — Calico, a relaxing community simulator that is all about rebuilding the cat cafe of the in-game town, was unexpectedly launched today on multiple platforms, namely on Nintendo Switch, Xbox, and PC.

Calico is developed by Peachy Keen Games and published by Whitethorn Digital, the former being composed of only two people. The developer wanted to create a cozy and cute animal-centric simulator and it was definitely able to convey that in this game.

That being said, some may find similarities between this title and the ever-popular Animal Crossing: New Horizons. For one thing, both games have players creating a new character and trying on new clothes, along with the fact that a major gameplay element for both have to do with befriending a variety of animals. Although in Calico’s case, the animal in question leans more towards cats.

The most crucial part of Calico, as mentioned, lies in the animal interaction. You can make friends with every single creature you come across in the game. Not only that, you can even give them unique names and then add them to your party. If you do decide to add the creature to your party, they will accompany you wherever you go as well as listen to and obey your commands.

Another option would be to send the befriended animal to the cafe, which will become their cozy new home. Animals that have found refuge in the cafe will get to relax and play with the different customers who stop by.

Another important gameplay mechanic in Calico is decorating and designing the cat cafe, which you are tasked to rebuild. The game gives you the opportunity to collect all kinds of toys which you can arrange within the cafe, as well as a wide variety of decorations and furniture.

Some of the decorations meticulously added to the cafe will cater to the humans visiting, while others are designed for the animals’ benefit. To make things even more interesting, Calico has magical elements for you to enjoy, such as magic potions that turn your character into a giant-sized animal.

Of course, a cafe means that there are treats and drinks that customers can order. In other words, you’re also responsible for baking an assortment of delicious desserts to serve to the townspeople who stop by the cafe. The villagers have a favorite treat as well, so it’s up to you to learn what it is so that you can sell it.

In other news, Calico interestingly isn’t the only cat-related game to release on the Nintendo Switch today. Fisti-fluffs by Playfellow Studio was also announced as a timed Switch-exclusive title. It’s definitely an interesting cat game of its own, but vastly different to Calico in terms of genre. Both titles do have charming art styles though, but that’s essentially the only similarity.

It appears that Nintendo’s hybrid handheld console has a bunch of new additions to its roster today, and the number of feline titles is definitely noticeable. As animal and cat lovers, we look forward to more titles like this in the future.

Hyper Scape Reveals Winter Festival Celebratory Event

Now that December is finally here, most video games are hopping into the holiday spirit such as Killing Floor’s Christmas Crackdown event, Pokemon Go’s holiday events with winter-themed Pokemon and rewards, and a lot more. Now, fans have a glance at what Ubisoft has prepared for Hyper Scape this month.

A few hours ago, the publisher of the game posted a new trailer for Hyper Scape detailing its upcoming Winter Festival event which involves new skins, emotes, weapons, and music. The trailer adopts the holiday spirit with an effervescent and lively tone it takes with the heroes the winter-inspired environments, and even its music. The trailer itself is brief but somehow displays the celebration of Christmas in the game.

The Hyper Scape Winter Festival event trailer is mostly full of animations of the characters participating in a few holiday-related activities to classical music by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky’s The Nutcracker. The characters are seen dancing, jumping, and skating with a quick shot of one drinking hot cocoa on a snow-filled balcony.

There’s even one character snowboarding and another jumping for joy before they get to the real action. As the trailer reaches midpoint it begins to showcase battles with all the chaos of the game’s fast-paced gameplay.

It begins with the robot nutcracker riding a snowmobile at extreme speeds before the craziness ensues. Characters are firing at each other with state of the art miniguns, rifles, grenade launchers, and more. However, the fun was quick before the trailer ends on the Christmas event launch date which is from December 15 to December 29.

The trailer mostly displays Christmas and winter-themed skins for Hyper Scape’s characters, and a new vehicle for players to enjoy. Players can look forward to the event in the futuristic battle royale. This new trailer comes hot off the pot of Ubisoft’s recent update, which introduced crossplay to Hyper Scape last week.

This update came as part of a major plan by the developers to revamp Hyper Scape. The new automatic crossplay feature is intended to make matchmaking between console players standard going forward. However, PC owners can only participate when invited by other players through the game’s friends list.

Ghostrunner Releases Winter Pack Expansion And Hardcore Mode

Over the past few months, players have become mesmerized with 505 Games and One More Level’s hit indie game Ghostrunner. The game has been lauded by players and critics alike, with many considering it as one of the must-play games of the year. Although Ghostrunner is already a difficult title to begin with, players are in for a whole new level of torture thanks to a free update containing a Hardcore mode.

Players on the PC can now download the Ghostrunner update without any cost to access the new mode. This new take on the game will call back those who have already finished the story of Dharma Tower to face an even more difficult challenge by placing enemies in various locations on every level. If this wasn’t hard enough, Hardcore mode will also make fans face all kinds of enemies from the very beginning of the game.

One of the game’s most interesting assets is the cyberpunk design presented all over the environment. However, with the new update, players will have the chance to customize the main character himself through a cosmetic expansion called “Winter Pack.” For just $2, players will gain access to the Cold Blood Glove and Cold Snap Katana, putting fans into the holiday spirit.

This DLC and update may not provide players an entirely new content to discover, but it sure looks like it will assist with replayability. On average, players will take almost 8 to 11 hours to beat Ghostrunner so this addition appears as though it is aimed at prolonging that experience.

While the Winter Pack won’t provide fans any kind of advantage when battling against Hel or any other enemies in the game, that doesn’t appear to be what it’s about. Critics have mentioned that Ghostrunner appears to have an express interest in making fans feel like the coolest person that has ever existed. Now, thanks to these icy new items, players will be even “cooler.”

Sadly, players on the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One will have to wait a bit longer for this new content to come. According to the developers, the console versions of the new update will be coming on December 17.

Nintendo Switch owners have it much worse, as both the Winter Pack expansion and Hardcore mode won’t be arriving to the hybrid console until the first quarter of next year. It appears like those playing on the Nintendo Switch will just have to hang tight and channel more patience as Dharma Tower isn’t going anywhere.

Spelunky 1 and Spelunky 2 Heading To Nintendo Switch in 2021

Announced only today, Spelunky and Spelunky 2 are both set to release on the Nintendo Switch next year, more specifically during the summer. Considered to be one of the foundational titles in the roguelike genre to which it is a part of, Spelunky is a classic platformer released all the way back in 2008.

Given how the first game was somewhat of a pioneer, this gave developer Mossmouth the chance to learn from its mistakes and turn Spelunky 2 into a more polished and improved game than the first title. In line with this goal, the developer decided to delay Spelunky 2’s release for about one year before officially launching it in September of this year.

That being said, the sequel’s delay was proven to be worth it. Players and critics alike loved Spelunky 2, describing it to be an incredible roguelike that skillfully and seamlessly incorporated all the best elements of the first game.

Given what we know about Spelunky 2, it doesn’t come as a surprise that the sequel was adored by many. The game, despite having an adorable and cartoonish art style along with family-friendly graphics, contains difficult levels that shouldn’t be taken lightly. Add its ridiculous and slapstick humor to the mix and we have an instant classic that many have and will enjoy for years to come.

Spelunky 2’s online co-op, which PC players had to experience later than others due to the feature getting delayed, gives fans the wonderful opportunity to enjoy the game with friends and/or family.

Virtually playing with other people in this manner is definitely a feature that is highly valued, especially given the current COVID-19 situation wherein people are requested to stay inside the safety of their homes.

In a recent announcement, specifically during the Nintendo Indie World Showcase livestream, it has been revealed that the two Spelunky titles will be broadening their horizons, allowing even more gamers on a different platform to experience the two games and all they have to offer.

To be more specific, both games are set to launch on the Nintendo Switch. The announcement came with a trailer that showcased everything fans love about the franchise, including the deadly traps, intense platforming gameplay, and so much more.

That being said, it makes a lot of sense to bring popular roguelike games such as these two to Nintendo’s hybrid handheld console. Spelunky and Spelunky 2 have gameplay mechanics and family-friendly elements that fit right in with the rest of the Switch’s library of games.

Besides, this gives Nintendo Switch users the chance to experience Spelunky 2 with their friends, as this particular version supports local and online multiplayer. Meanwhile, the foundational title will only support local, but this doesn’t make it any less fun.

The Nintendo Switch version of both titles have a release window of Summer 2021, so both games will be available on the eShop around that time. However, they each have their respective listings now on the eShop, so both old and new fans can go ahead and add them to their wishlists for now.

New Assassin’s Creed Valhalla Update Addresses Game Breaking Bugs

The latest 1.1 update for Assassin’s Creed Valhalla is now available, and it promises to address several problems that players have encountered since the game’s release back in November and prepare them for the Yule Festival event which will be arriving later this month.

Ubisoft’s Happy Holidays event has already started, offering free rewards in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla and other games by the publisher. Every day, they will be giving away free in-game rewards until December 19, and a few lucky fans will be even given free games.

Ubisoft has already an Assassin’s Creed Valhalla Rewards pack which contains a legendary skin and a Seafarer Settlement pack. In order to claim these freebies, players should have an existing Ubisoft account or make one.

However, this will not be the only seasonal reward for Assassin’s Creed Valhalla fans as the Yule Festival event will be coming out soon according to the publisher’s website. This will be a time-limited event where fans can enjoy new challenges and bonuses in the game.

NPCs called revelers will be added to the game to get the celebrations started and players can encounter them in the east of their settlement. There are also several critical bug fixes being addressed coming along with the update on all platforms.

Ubisoft mentioned that stability and performance will be enhanced and that the splash screen freezes and other problems have been fixed. A few problems regarding audio, animations, and graphics have been resolved, and many glitches that happened to world events, quests, and side quests have also been fixed, such as glitches that prevented players from finishing particular quests or otherwise get stuck.

Hopefully, this update will be the solution fans have been asking for to repair some game-breaking bugs. A major bug has been reported as soon as the game was released that compelled players to reinstall Assassin’s Creed Valhalla in order to proceed in the story.

To fix it, players were forced to download a previous version since an update to the game made the game-breaking bug. There was also a funny and quite shocking glitch that made children appear larger than adults, among much more bizarre and usually release irregularities.

Overwatch’s Annual Winter Wonderland Event Is Now Live

Those who have been playing Overwatch for quite a while now know that Blizzard’s team-based multiplayer is familiar with yearly holiday or winter-themed events, which usually offer players new game modes and skins or cosmetics.

The same thing was offered during the game’s Halloween 2020 event, which came with several skins that matched the spooky theme as well as an original game mode called Junkenstein’s Revenge.

This time around, however, Overwatch will be celebrating the annual Winter Wonderland event since it’s clearly December and therefore the start of the holiday season. That being said, Winter Wonderland 2020 has officially gone live today on all platforms that Overwatch supports.

Needless to say, not only does it introduce a new game mode called Freezethaw Elimination, players are given the chance to choose from a variety of winter-themed cosmetics.

To celebrate, Blizzard has released a fun trailer to showcase Winter Wonderland 2020 and give players an idea of what they can expect during the said event. As mentioned, there are a couple of brand-new skins that players can unlock, specifically five new legendary skins.

Namely, there’s the Penguin Mei, Ice Empress Moira, Conductor Reinhardt, Lumberjack Torbjorn, and Toybot Zenyatta. Naturally, these legendary skins also come with one-of-a-kind wintery details that make them stand out from the rest of the cosmetics.

In addition, there are also three epic skins available during this event, along with new icons and sprays that match the winter theme.

As previously mentioned, Winter Wonderland 2020 will also feature a new Winter Brawl, which the developer has called Freezethaw Elimination. This is indeed a very interesting game mode, as players within a 4v4 team will be frozen solid in place instead of getting eliminated like usual.

The main goal of Freezethaw Elimination in order to win the match is to freeze all the members of the enemy team. The catch, however, is that players have the ability to thaw their frozen teammates, giving them the chance to turn things around and potentially win the match.

Fans of Overwatch’s previous winter-themed game modes will be happy to know that three are making a comeback this year, namely Snowball Deathmatch, Yeti Hunter, and Mei’s Snowball Offensive.

Players will also be given a chance to win free rewards during Overwatch’s Winter Wonderland 2020 event. More specifically, the game will introduce brand-new winter-themed weekly challenges that players have to complete.

Players will be able to unlock the three new epic skins just by playing and beating nine games per week. The skins include Gingerbread Ana, Elf Junkrat, and Frosty the Snowman Roadhog.

Players will earn the Elf Junkrat skin after beating Week 1, followed by the Frosty the Snowman Roadhog skin for beating Week 2. Lastly, successfully doing Week 3 offers players the Gingerbread Ana skin. Players need to take note, however, that these challenges are only available for a limited time so it’s best to complete the challenges every week before it’s too late.

One exciting aspect of this annual end-of-the-year celebration is the fact that Winter Wonderland cosmetics from the previous years will also be available to players either through loot boxes or by purchasing them via credits.

Winter Wonderland 2020 will run until January 5, giving players sufficient time to explore everything that Overwatch will be offering in this year’s event.

Among Us Unexpectedly Announced for Nintendo Switch

Without a doubt, 2020 is the year of ups and downs, plot twists and surprises, and possibly one of the biggest shocks of this year is the swift rise in popularity of Among Us, a social deduction game developed by InnerSloth that was released in 2018.

Despite being out for a few years now, the online multiplayer suddenly took the world by storm this year, so much so that it was the most searched video game on Google in 2020. Among Us originally launched on mobile platforms about two years ago, but the PC version shortly came after.

That being said, it never really gained popularity during that time. This all changed in the summer of 2020 when content creators and Twitch streamers started playing the game on their respective platforms for the public to see. As a result, more and more gamers were introduced to the online title, even getting attached to its simple yet addictive gameplay.

Due to its sudden boost in popularity, developer InnerSloth has made a point to ensure that the popular title is as accessible to everyone as possible.

The most recent Nintendo Indie World livestream took place today, and to the surprise of the viewers, Among Us made an appearance before the presentation ended. Apparently, the online multiplayer has been surprise-launched on the Nintendo Switch and is now available for purchase on the eShop.

This is definitely great news for gamers who prefer playing on their Nintendo Switch console rather than on PC or mobile. In line with this, it has been confirmed that the Switch version of Among Us will support cross-play. In other words, players across all platforms — including PC and mobile — will be able to gather and have matches together, further increasing the game’s already massive playerbase.

According to the listing on the Nintendo Switch eShop, this version of Among Us will also have the same $5 price as the PC version. Meanwhile, the mobile versions (iOS and Android) will remain free-to-play with ads.

The catch, however, is that this version requires players to be subscribed to Nintendo Switch Online in order to have matches with other players online. The announcement caught everybody off guard that the phrase “Among Us on Switch” even started trending on Twitter a few moments after the reveal.

The developer initially planned on releasing a sequel to the game entitled Among Us 2, but it later decided to scrap this idea in favor of focusing and continuing its support towards the already-existing original game.

That being said, all the new content that was supposed to be introduced in the sequel will instead be added to Among Us, seeing as it already has a booming playerbase. In other news, Among Us revealed the highly-anticipated new map called The Airship during The Game Awards 2020, and it’s expected to launch early next year.

It’s definitely exciting seeing how far InnerSloth and Among Us has come since 2018. It’s also worth mentioning that this Nintendo Switch version is the first time that the game is released on a console.

While the new map is definitely worth getting excited about, developer InnerSloth has also confirmed that more exciting things are heading our way this month, so let’s keep our eyes peeled for that.

New Resident Evil 8 Screenshots Released By Capcom

Capcom has unveiled a new set of screenshots for the upcoming Resident Evil 8, the next installment in the long-running horror franchise that’s set to release early next year, following an array of big leaks. It almost goes without saying that the new look at the new game comes on the heels of a difficult time for both the game and Capcom, but the publisher appears to be persistent to treat the massively scrutinized game like any other.

Just last month, a ransomware attack made by hackers rendered Capcom helpless to a myriad of leaks. Capcom’s networks took a big hit, with employee emails and other critical pieces of information obtained in the online theft.

In the weeks after the incident, a plethora of leaked data about Capcom’s upcoming games has appeared online, apparently because of the data breach. The latest set of leaks were released yesterday, revealing spoilers via descriptions and photos of Resident Evil 8’s ending, characters, and story. Whether or not the latest update from Capcom is an effort to dull the effects of yesterday’s leaks is any fans’ guess.

In partnership with IGN, Capcom has unleashed a fresh set of Resident Evil 8 screenshots, three in total. The first features a werewolf monster carrying a huge, bloodstained weapon, undoubtedly ready to attack the main character.

The second photo shows a creepy castle, complete with impressive dynamic lighting and a dreadful flock of crows. Lastly, the last image features another werewolf-like monster, though this one appears far more ominous and feral compared to the first screenshot.

Intriguingly, both of these monsters were previously seen in the game’s second trailer, which was released back in September during Sony’s PlayStation 5 Showcase. Hopefully, this new set of screenshots can hold players over until the publisher is ready to reveal even more details about the upcoming game.

Barring the abovementioned leaks, there remains an air of secrecy around Resident Evil 8 and all its mysterious setting entails. For instance, Capcom has yet to officially confirm whether they are going to launch the game on Xbox One and PlayStation 4 but leaks suggest those are arriving in addition to current-gen editions.

Perhaps the biggest question of all is when exactly the game will release. Based on information from the hacking last month, Capcom plans to release Resident Evil 8 in April 2021. Even if this specific announcement was at one point precise, there’s currently nothing to imply that Capcom hasn’t changed its schedule for the next year.

Skyrim Is Now Available To Play On The Xbox Game Pass

Nearly three months have passed since the announcement that Microsoft acquired ZeniMax Media, much to the surprise of the video game community. Naturally, this acquisition meant that the subsidiary studios came along with it, including id Software, Bethesda Softworks, and Arkane.

Now, this notable acquisition meant that Microsoft, the parent company of Xbox, was given access to several renowned video game franchises which would be added to the often-criticized Xbox service. That being said, it appears that those who are members of the Xbox Game Pass are starting to benefit from Microsoft’s purchase, as the Game Pass has just added the world-renowned RPG, Skyrim.

Xbox Game Pass users can now begin downloading and playing Skyrim on their Xbox console. This news was announced on the official Xbox Game Pass Twitter account, and the post clearly conveyed the excitement the team must have felt by this reveal via a funny picture.

The Game Pass Twitter account labeled the game The Elder Scrolls: Skyrim: Special Xbox Game Pass Edition. Although the post also admits that while it’s called the “special” edition, there’s essentially nothing new or special about it and that the team just wanted it to feel special. The tweet also touts Skyrim to have features such as “Crouch!” and “Die more times than you can count!”

That being said, Skyrim isn’t the only major title from ZeniMax that was added to the Xbox Game Pass since the acquisition. Members of the service have also been enjoying Doom Eternal for quite some time now, diving into the game’s hellish landscape and all it has to offer.

The first-person shooter has received a decent amount of recognition throughout 2020 not only for the way its level design was incredibly made, but also because fighting off the monsters with the different weapons on offer along with the intense metal music in the background was satisfying, to say the least.

Sadly, PC subscribers of the Xbox Game Pass aren’t as satisfied with the service. Included in the Game Pass Ultimate subscription is supposedly a free membership to EA Play too, which is an inclusion that many PC members are anticipating. This free membership gives them access to popular games such as Jedi: Fallen Order and Titanfall 2.

However, while Xbox Game Pass console members have been benefiting from this feature for quite some time now, PC players were told to wait until December 2020 before the feature became available to them.

Now, it appears that recent news indicates otherwise because it has been announced that this integration will be pushed back to 2021 for unknown reasons. While this is definitely unfortunate news, there’s nothing that can be done for now except to wait.

In any case, Xbox Game Pass subscribers have many other things to be excited about in the future months. Recently, it was revealed that Yakuza Remastered Collection and Yakuza 6 will be made available on the service for both PC and consoles this 2021.

In other words, the addition of these two titles means that members will be able to access and play all the games in the Yakuza franchise except for one — the latest title which is Yakuza: Like a Dragon.

At this point, it’s safe to say that the Xbox Game Pass has improved and flourished throughout the years, making it one of the top subscription-based services out there.
