Hacker Group Threatens to Leak Source Code for Watch Dogs Legion

In recent news, a hacking and ransomware group called Egregor has reportedly gained access to Watch Dogs: Legion’s source code, along with other data from publisher and developer Crytek. This event could not come at a more inopportune time, as the action-adventure title is set to release within two weeks.

It appears that the hacking group Egregor made a ransomware program with the same name, which takes inspiration from Sekhmet, another well-known program. If you’re not entirely sure what ransomware is, it is a type of software or malware used to gain unauthorized access to a victim’s data.

Then, the stolen data won’t be given back until the hackers’ requests are met. Usually, hackers threaten to release the stolen information to the public if the victim doesn’t comply with their demands, and this seems to be the case with Egregor as well.

As mentioned, Egregor has declared that their group has the source code for the upcoming title Watch Dogs: Legion. Source code is a game’s code that comes in readable human language. It is then put together into machine code, after which you can proceed to sell it to companies or consumers.

If you leak a game’s source code, this is comparable to leaking a bakery’s special recipe for baking bread to the public instead of just selling a loaf of bread as a whole. As you can see, a game’s source code is extremely top secret.

If Egregor pushes through in leaking Watch Dogs: Legion’s source code, this could possibly lead to other companies copying the game, or it will give players the power to hack and mod the game more than ever before.

In some cases, developers themselves would release a game’s source code, such as when Electronic Arts published the source code for two Command and Conquer games. In that case, EA’s purpose was to help out modders and fans, but it’s also worth noting that they released the said code many years after the games’ release.

Based on what the group has released so far, it’s still unclear if they truly have all of Watch Dogs: Legion’s source code. Among other data, Egregor also says that they have files from Crytek, even including the data used to develop Arena of Fate and Warface.

One example of source code getting leaked was when an extensive amount of data was released from Nintendo’s private servers. As a matter of fact, this took place recently this year.

This leaked data included the Nintendo Wii’s source code. Fortunately for Nintendo, the Wii console’s moment of glory has already passed, so the leak didn’t really pose a huge threat to the company compared to if the source code of the Nintendo Switch was leaked, for example.

We have yet to see how Ubisoft or Crytek will respond to Egregor’s threat, however, it appears that the group hasn’t requested a ransom yet either. In any case, Watch Dogs: Legion is expected to release by the end of the month, so we’re all keeping our eyes peeled to see how this will all play out.

New Tales of Game by Bandai Namco May Be in Development

When you think of a long-standing JRPG franchise that has been ongoing for decades through various entries, you would probably instantly think of the Final Fantasy series and the upcoming Final Fantasy 16 game, or perhaps even Dragon Quest with its abundant history of titles.

However, there’s one other JRPG franchise that has been around for a really long time. The Tales of series has been releasing games upon games for 25 years now, but it seems that publisher Bandai Namco has more planned for the franchise.

Just recently, Bandai Namco Entertainment filed a trademark for the title “Tales of Luminaria” in Europe. As such, fans of the Tales of games have been looking forward to the possibility of a new announcement.

We already know that the next installment in the series is entitled Tales of Arise, and even though it has been delayed indefinitely, we know that it’s still on its way. As such, speculations have been making the rounds as to what Tales of Luminaria is.

The Tales of franchise is under various platforms and even has different genres and mediums for the different entries. As such, there’s a vast array of options as to what Bandai Namco could possibly release under the new title.

Bandai Namco filing the trademark was discovered by one of ResetEra’s users, a highly-popular forum on the internet. The post received a lot of comments where fans theorized the most likely outcome.

More specifically, many fans believe that the trademarked title Tales of Luminaria will be another mobile game, as mobile spin-offs have become commonplace for the franchise recently.

On the other hand, there are those who think that while it might not be a main-line installment, it’s possible that there’s more to it than just a mobile spin-off. It’s not unusual for the Tales of series to have a spin-off title.

As a matter of fact, the franchise has had numerous spin-off games under the Tales of name, just like many other JRPG series.

As such, it’s possible that Tales of Luminaria could be another spin-off title that will be released for the Nintendo Switch. After all, this console is perfect for JRPGs, and it’s quite unfortunate that Tales of Arise will only be released on the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.

Asides from this new discovery, there’s also some big news for fans of the franchise. The Tales of Vesperia: Definitive Edition was released on the Xbox Game Pass last week and is available to play now at your convenience.

Tales of Vesperia is probably considered by many fans to be the best game in the Tales of franchise, and the fact that it’s now available on the Game Pass means that more JRPG fans will be able to try out this highly-acclaimed title if they haven’t yet.

We don’t have information just yet about Tales of Luminaria, but fans can only hope that it will contain the same positive elements present in the other Tales of games. That said, the trademark was only filed in Europe, so we doubt that any new announcements will be revealed any time soon.

Overwatch 2 Now Has Rumored Release Window

Overwatch 2 was initially announced during BlizzCon 2019, and many fans expected it to be released this year given the fact that the title was expected to release for the current-gen consoles. Well, this might have been Blizzard’s original plan, but it seems at this point, the title will probably be released in 2021 at the earliest.

However, according to an Overwatch leaker, fans won’t have to wait too long for the highly-anticipated sequel next year – that is if their findings turn out to be true.

According to the leaker Metro, the very same one who accurately leaked gameplay details for Overwatch 2 in the past, the upcoming title is scheduled to be released by early 2021. Metro says that there are rumors that the next Overwatch League season may be pushed back until April in order for the sequel to be included.

Because of this rumor, there will either be a beta or a full release of Overwatch 2 available some time in February 2021.

Now, the most interesting part about this is the fact that the digital BlizzCon 2021 event is scheduled to take place from February 19 to 21, 2021. Much to the dismay of many fans, Blizzard had no choice but to cancel BlizzCon 2020 because of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic that has impacted the whole world.

However, if Blizzard did have plans to reveal Overwatch 2’s release date during the canceled event, then it would make sense if that information will be revealed during next year’s digital event instead.

Assuming that the leak from Metro is true, then it’s highly possible that the release of an Overwatch 2 beta will be announced during BlizzCon 2021, and the full game will probably be released some time in March.

After all, Blizzard is planning to sell physical copies of the title in brick and mortar businesses as well as in digital storefronts. As such, we highly doubt that Blizzard will launch Overwatch 2 as a surprise during BlizzCon 2021.

A surprise beta reveal, on the other hand, seems like something Blizzard is capable of doing especially during a huge event such as BlizzCon. Asides from potentially announcing an Overwatch 2 beta, it’s also possible that the event will reveal more details about the upcoming title to keep the hype going.

From what we know so far, the sequel to the popular hero-shooter will feature a story mode as well as new types of PvP matches. However, there’s still a lot of missing information about the title and fans are clamoring for their questions to be answered.

For now, all we can do is hope that if Blizzard does announce an Overwatch 2 beta next year, it will also dump fans with more information about what they can expect from the title.

In any case, we highly recommend that Overwatch fans virtually attend or at least check out the BlizzCon 2021 event in February to see if Metro’s leak is true and if Blizzard will reveal a release date. If no news of Overwatch 2 gets released, at least you’ll still be able to enjoy the many activities planned for the big digital event.

Pokemon Go is collaborating with GrubHub to launch an exclusive event where Unown G and Unown H will be available for capture. Types of Unown are rare to encounter in the game, so fans should consider joining the event.

Pokemon Go has several events occurring in the next few weeks. The game is no stranger to collaborating with other famous brands for their events and this is no different. Pokemon Go has officially partnered with GrubHub for an exclusive event coming in November. However, this GrubHub event is more closed off compared to most events held in Pokemon Go.

Xbox Series X Doesn’t Have Heating Issues, Says Insider

Initial tests from an industry insider defended the Xbox Series X and stated that it is not as warm as originally reported. Microsoft’s next-gen console is scheduled to launch next month, alongside its rival, the PlayStation 5 from Sony.

As the launch dates come closer, fans are receiving more and more details about the new systems and how they will function. With both companies offering respectably powerful new hardware, heat is one of the concerns of all players. Preventing heating issues is the main reason why the PlayStation 5 has a really huge size since the new console includes a large heat sink and fan.

First hands-on tests with the next-consoles revealed how crucial these features are. As experts got their initial experience with Microsoft’s next-gen console, most of them noted that the Xbox Series X had a severe heating issue.

With such conflicting reports regarding the performance of Microsoft’s new console, it can be difficult to figure out what to believe. A comprehensive test like the one carried out by Jeff Grubb is a great start, but at the end of the day, gamers probably won’t have a definite answer if the Xbox Series X really has a heating issue until they play the console for themselves.

However, with preorders becoming chaotic as it can be, that can be a challenge in and of itself. There is even a retailer asking four times the price of the Xbox Series X for preorder vouchers.

The coming of the next generation of gaming consoles always leads to confusion. Misinformation, rumors, and speculations are prevalent, and it can be hard for players to receive the correct details before they get their hands on the actual console.

Luckily, with the Xbox Series X’s recently revealed 30-game launch games, there’s still enough reason for gamers to be interested in Microsoft’s next-gen console.
