Dead By Daylight Mobile Commemorates 10M Download Milestone With New Costumes

Dead By Daylight Mobile has reached an incredible milestone for downloads, commemorating with new survivor costumes as well as a visuals update. After just six months since the mobile version was released in Android and iOS devices, the free-to-play edition has amassed over 10 million downloads.

Developer Behaviour Interactive revealed an amazing milestone for the mobile edition of its awry horror game Dead by Daylight, announcing that it has recently achieved more than 10 million downloads. Reminiscent of the initial success of Dead by Daylight on mobile, to commemorate this accomplishment, players will be receiving new costumes for both Meg Thomas and David King as well as a couple of new visual updates.

In addition, the development team also announced several future plans for new content as well as further improvements to the game’s visuals. Legion and Claudette will also be getting new costumes in the future, both relating to university life. Typically, Claudette showcases her love for her university with the Campus Cool skin while Legion lets his hate for the school to be known with the Lost Cause outfit.

Ever since it was released in 2016, Dead by Daylight still remains as one of the best games when it comes to popular horror experience. The developers continue to release new and updated content.

The mobile version of the game features a familiar asymmetric multiplayer mode where four players work in harmony in order to stay away from a heartless killer who is committed to sacrificing them. Dead by Daylight can also be played across multiple platforms including the Stadia, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and the PC. It is also expected to be coming to both the next-gen consoles.

Mortal Kombat 11 Ultimate Launching Next Month For Next-Gen Consoles

Developer NetherRealm reveals that Mortal Kombat 11 Ultimate – a compilation of the original game and all of its expansions- is releasing on the Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5 next month.

It looks like Mortal Kombat isn’t obsolete yet. In spite of releasing Mortal Kombat 11: Aftermath just five months ago, Warner Bros. Games and NetherRealm have revealed that Mortal Kombat 11 will be getting another re-release in the form of Mortal Kombat 11 Ultimate. The main difference is that this edition will bring the title to the next-gen consoles shortly after they are launched.

Releasing alongside this version of MK are three DLC characters including Sylvester Stallone’s John Rambo, Rain from Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3, and the highly demanded fan-favorite Mileena. Mortal Kombat 11 is the definitive edition of Mortal Kombat 11, gathering all of the expansions released in the game as well as the new revealed Kombat Pack 2.

The game will also include all of the content from Mortal Kombat 11: Aftermath such as the game’s expansion story and additional characters Sheeva, RoboCop, and Fujin. Players who already own Mortal Kombat 11 and its expansions or Mortal Kombat 11: Aftermath can upgrade to Mortal Kombat 11 Ultimate by availing the Kombat Pack 2 for just $15 on October 15th.

While this new edition of the game is going to be available on the current-gen consoles and the Nintendo Switch, Mortal Kombat 11 Ultimate will also be launched on the Xbox Series X/S and PlayStation 5 during its launch on November 17th.

The next-gen version will allow for improved visuals, fast loading times, 4K resolutions, and cross-gen crossplay compatibility for select game modes. The Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5 editions will also cater to free upgrades for players who will upgrade to the Mortal Kombat 11 Ultimate edition of the game either before or after the game releases. Owners of the original editions of Mortal Kombat 11 and Mortal Kombat 11: Aftermath can also upgrade those versions for free to the next-gen consoles too.

The introduction of crossplay lets players on the Xbox Series X, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, and PlayStation 4 play together. However, players on the Nintendo Switch, Stadia, and PC will not be allowed to play across consoles.

Mortal Kombat 11 Ultimate preorders will go online on October 15 for only $60. However, the physical version for PlayStation 4 will not be released until January next year. The Nintendo Switch edition will not have a physical edition available in North America. Players who opt to preorder Mortal Kombat 11 Ultimate’s digital version will immediately gain access to Mortal Kombat 11: Aftermath.

Given the scarcity of effective fighting games this year because of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, this new edition of Mortal Kombat 11 is a great move from Warner Bros. Games and NetherRealm to help the game be relevant heading into the next generation of gaming. While the developers are expected to reveal Injustice 3 sometime next year, it is satisfying to know that support for Mortal Kombat 11 is continuing into the next generation.

Mario Kart Tour is honoring its first anniversary with new and returning racetracks as well as costumes for players to collect. The mobile game is a hit for Nintendo fans with mobile phones but despite its amazing racing gameplay, it’s filled with an overabundance of super expensive microtransactions.

It’s a shame that the game is a wallet-breaker since it does contain some fairly good ideas. Nintendo has been frequently updating Mario Kart Tour with brand new tracks and characters, and this devoted post-release support is something that fans believe could be beneficial to a major Mario Kart entry, one that doesn’t require any microtransactions since it will not be a free-to-play game.

Mario Kart Tour holds a championship cup every two weeks, giving fans more content to discover and more characters to collect. In a recent championship cup, the developers added Dixie Kong and Funky Kong, two classic ape characters from the Donkey Kong series.

Despite the microtransaction problems, there are a lot of things that the game gets right. As a matter of fact, it is constantly improving with every update. A few weeks ago, the game added a new landscape mode, which gives players an expansive and more satisfying field of view as they race around the track.

The plethora of Rubies in the anniversary event should ease the pressure on the wallets of players and let them spend more time enjoying the tracks which definitely should be for this kind of game. Hopefully, upcoming events will be similar to this one.

Microtransactions have been a pain in the gaming industry ever since it was introduced. A lot of games were utterly ruined by them. Players have all the right to be disappointed by how much money Mario Kart Tour asks of them, but looking deeper, the game is really good. Call of Duty Black Ops Cold War’s beta testing will soon be available on the PC in just a few days. Here’s what your PC needs to have in order to play the game.

Activision hasn’t announced the exact release date for their upcoming game Call of Duty Black Ops Cold War. However, fans of the series will be getting their first experience of the new game when the open beta begins this weekend.

PlayStation 4 players will be the first to try the Black Ops Cold War via an early access phase beginning October 8, 2020. PC owners will have to wait for a week until October 15 to experience the open beta. With only a week to prepare, here are the requirements your computer needs to have in order to run Black Ops Cold War’s open beta.

To experience the best of Black Ops Cold War, players would need a PC that caters these jaw-dropping requirements:

The open beta for Black Ops Cold War will run for two weekends. Thanks to Activision’s partnership with Sony, the first weekend will be exclusively available for PlayStation owners only. Fans who pre-ordered the digital copy will have the right to join the early access on the PlayStation 4 from October 8 until October 9. On October 10, Activision will hold an open beta for all PlayStation 4 owners until October 12.

The next weekend, PC and Xbox owners will get their chance to participate in the open beta. For October 15 and 16, only PC and Xbox players who preordered the digital version will be able to join the early access.  Lastly, the open beta for Black Ops Cold War will be open on all platforms from October 17 until October 19, 2020.

The development team has not provided much information about what players can expect on the open beta. It is most likely that beta testers will get to experience the features showcased during the open alpha but probably with more additions.

There will also be two new game modes which will be debuting in the open beta – Fireteam: Dirty Bomb and VIP Escort. The developers haven’t announced any new maps for the open beta but players should anticipate seeing a few new additions to be announced once the beta begins.

 

Pokemon GO Launches Initiative to Support Small Businesses Affected by COVID-19

The unexpected arrival of the coronavirus pandemic has undoubtedly affected so many businesses worldwide. If big companies were impacted by the pandemic, imagine how much worse the small, local businesses are faring.

As such, Pokemon GO developer Niantic has decided to launch a Local Business Recovery Initiative in support of small businesses globally. Niantic published an official statement on their website, which states that the company has always had a vision of turning the world “into a giant game board.”

A world that fosters its individuals to look around and interact with significant and riveting locations, ranging from well-known name-brand stores to small businesses. Unfortunately, the COVID-19 pandemic has led to the closure of many local shops.

In an effort to try and strengthen the local communities during this difficult and trying time, Niantic’s Local Business Recovery Initiative will see to adding 1,000 small businesses worldwide next year as sponsored areas in Pokemon Go, Niantic’s highly-acclaimed mobile game.

This will come free of charge, even if other features and bonuses implemented in the game due to COVID-19 will be removed.

The initiative was initially announced earlier during the summer, where Niantic motivated Pokemon Go players to suggest or nominate local businesses that they can add to the game. Suggestions were asked from and given by those players living in the United States, Canada, Mexico, the United Kingdom, and Japan

Now, a thousand of these nominations would be included in Pokemon Go’s in-game map, and hopefully, more and more people will become more aware of their existence. Consequently, this will hopefully lead to more commerce and customers for the chosen businesses.

In Niantic’s statement, they stated that response to their plan was “phenomenal,” so much so that players nominated about 38,000 businesses. The developer had to reduce the amount to 1,000, which is definitely not a small feat.

Some of the businesses already went live in the game, while others are still being worked on. In order for your favorite local business to be considered, Niantic had a set of criteria that you had to keep in mind before nominating.

First and foremost, the business had to be “small and local,” which is described as “operating five or less storefront locations.” The business also had to follow the health and safety regulations of the local area it’s located in.

Niantic gave a few examples of the chosen businesses, which included:

  • F.M. Light & Sons – a family-owned clothing store in Colorado;
  • Chop Chop Shop MX – a shop in Mexico City that focused more on selling games;
  • Blitzkrieg Chop – a hair shop in Worthing, West Sussex that is dedicated to inclusivity;
  • Five Girls Baking – another family-owned bakery in located in Canada.

Niantic also says that there’s more to the Local Business Recovery Initiative than just turning the businesses into Gyms or PokeStops. Instead, these local shops will be encouraged to promote themselves to those who are nearby.

Given how negative of an impact the COVID-19 pandemic has had on small businesses, Niantic’s effort to promote as many of these businesses as possible will surely help them keep upright during these uncertain times.

The Red Lantern Allows Players to Disable Dog Deaths

If you’ve ever experienced losing a well-loved pet, then you know just how painful and heartbreaking that moment is. Timberline Studio doesn’t want you to experience that kind of pain even in a fictional game.

As such, the developers of The Red Lantern, an upcoming dog-sledding adventure title, have decided to implement a feature wherein players can disable dog deaths completely. The Red Lantern is set to release this October 22 on the Switch and the Epic Games Store.

It’s actually the first game from Timberline Studio, which is why we’re so excited to get our hands on this game. Besides, it has dogs — what more could you possibly want? Story-wise, the game has a lot of potential.

The Red Lantern is described to be “story-driven,” and it’s all about making it through in the Alaskan wilderness along with your adorable dog-sledding crew. It honestly looks great and the trailer is proof of that.

Speaking of the trailer, you may have heard an awful crunch at the end of it, implying that yes, the dogs can get hurt and possibly even die in this game.

It makes sense, given the fact that The Red Lantern is a survival game after all. As such, we wouldn’t be surprised if you have to take care of the needs of your canine companions as well as your own if you want to go back home safe and sound.

That being said, designer Nathaniel Chapman revealed to the potential players that their team has ensured that players can avoid having to watch the dogs die. Chapman took to Twitter to say that “everyone at Timberline Games is super sensitive to people’s concerns” regarding the issue about dogs dying in-game.

As such, they have included an option “that disables the ability for dogs to die in the game.” Chapman goes on to say that the studio understands just how “personally painful” it is to watch a dog die, and they didn’t want this kind of scenario to stop players from enjoying the title.

That being said, it’s still possible for the dogs to get hurt even if you disable death. In other words, you should still definitely watch where you’re sledding, as Chapman clarified that an injured dog would still have “gameplay repercussions.”

It may not be completely similar, but this option reminds us of how developer Obsidian Entertainment approached arachnophobia in the survival game Grounded. Those who are absolutely terrified of spiders have the option to alter the eight-legged creatures into something less horrifying.

This was made possible through the use of sliders in the options menu. If you glide the slider all the way to the end, the spiders become something that looks like more of floating blobs than creepy arachnids.

It’s a unique kind of accessibility feature, and it’s one that many, many players loved and appreciated. In any case, if you do decide that you’re strong enough to witness the death of a dog, Chapman says that the team did a pretty good job at handling the scenario with empathy and compassion.

Mother and Child Sue Nintendo Over Joy-Con Drift

This year has brought success to the doorstep of Nintendo thanks to successful titles like Animal Crossing: New Horizons and Super Mario 3D All-Stars. However, there’s been an issue plaguing the company, and even now, Nintendo is still facing lawsuits over the Joy-Con drift issue that Switch owners have been complaining about for years.

In case you’re unaware of this issue, the Joy-Con drift is what you call when either one or two of the Joy-Cons’ analog sticks slightly input in a certain direction, even though no one is touching them.

This has been a long-standing issue and Nintendo has received several lawsuits because of it. One of those who took legal action against the company is French consumers organization UFC-Que Choisir, as they believe that Nintendo is allowing these faulty controllers to be sold on purpose.

Now, even a mother and her child have sued Nintendo for this very same issue. Luz Sanchez, the mother of the aforementioned child, filed a lawsuit against the video game company and accused it of not doing its part to remedy the Joy-Con drift problem.

Despite the fact that Nintendo has previously offered to fix these Joy-Cons for free, Sanchez has demanded $5 million in damages.

According to the case, Sanchez bought his son a Nintendo Switch back in 2018. However, only a month has passed and her son’s Joy-Cons started experiencing the drifting issue in question. In just less than a year, the Joy-Con could no longer be used even for general gameplay.

Sanchez decided to buy another pair of Joy-Cons for her son, but these ones also met the same fate seven months after purchase. Just like the lawsuit filed by UFC Que-Choisir, Sanchez and her lawyers maintain that Nintendo is intentionally selling these defective items without letting customers know about it.

Not only that, but the lawyers also proclaim that there’s an underlying financial motive in all of this, as it would cost Nintendo a lot of money to fix the issue. As for Nintendo, the company’s lawyers haven’t made any comment about the lawsuit.

However, given how things went for the previous Joy-Con drift lawsuits, it’s highly likely that Nintendo won’t come out of this the victor.

These lawsuits definitely haven’t been helping with Nintendo’s reputation, as more and more people have been demanding that the company permanently fixes the issue. To make matters worse, Nintendo was recently accused of implying that the Joy-Con drift issue is not real.

On a completely different note, Nintendo did experience being on the winning side of a lawsuit recently. Since the company’s lawsuit against an online shop was successful, the online shop in question now has to stop selling Switch hacking devices.

Nintendo was able to receive $2 million in damages, so we’re sure that the company is feeling pretty proud of itself for this win.

These hacking devices were made by a hacking group known as Team Xecuter. Speaking of, two members of this hacking group actually got arrested earlier this week and were charged with fraud.

Actor Asa Butterfield is Team Liquid’s Newest Member

Actor Asa Butterfield has been confirmed to have joined Team Liquid’s eSports organization, though there’s no news of his role in the team. While Butterfield is great on showing his nerdy side across his numerous social media accounts, he’s better known for his skills in front of a camera rather than behind a keyboard.

Asa Butterfield is a British actor famous for his role in the 2008 touching film The Boy In The Striped Pajamas. He has also played main roles in other hit blockbuster movies including Hugo, Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children, and Ender’sGame.

Recently, he plays the lead role of Otis in Netflix’s hit original series Sex Education. While Butterfield’s achievements are mostly related to movies, Team Liquid saw something in him which led to the decision to add him to the organization.

Team Liquid revealed on their official Twitter account that Butterfield is the professional gaming organization’s newest member. The tweet did not explain in detail what the actor would be doing for the organization but they did say that they would immediately call him if they needed a substitute for their Super Smash Bros. or DOTA 2 teams.

Butterfield retweeted the post and conveyed his excitement on being included in the organization. He also detailed how he would browse Starcraft 2 streams on the Liquipedia and how Team Liquid was the first eSports team he has ever heard of, proving that his roots with the organization were indeed deep. While the actor’s introduction into Team Liquid is intriguing, there’s no news yet of what Butterfield will bring to the table.

Team Liquid is a professional eSports organization that caters to pro players across over a dozen famous eSports games. While Butterfield is not scared to share his love for the nerd culture on his social media accounts, he has yet to post any highlight reels or impressive gameplay.

Not every member of Team Liquid is a top-tier eSports player but the main focus of their careers has been gaming, so the decision to include the actor to its roster looks like it wasn’t certainly made to give the organization an advantage to the competition.

Butterfield has achieved a great deal of success in the movie industry, so it is impossible that he will leave his career as an actor to chase his dream of becoming a professional player. Several once-popular TV and movie stars have resorted to streaming games as a hobby however, Butterfield’s career is very much active.

Sure, Asa Butterfield’s affection towards video games and anime is irrefutable, but Team Liquid apparently isn’t expecting him to pass up his roles in the silver screen anytime soon.

Pokemon Sword and Shield DLC Bundles Are Quite Pricey

The latest Pokemon Sword and Pokemon Shield presentation may have primarily focused on the game’s Crown Tundra DLC, but the presentation also revealed that the titles are set to have physical versions as well that are scheduled to be launched within the year.

The physical versions will have the base games, of course, along with the full expansion pass. This makes these physical editions a perfect purchase for those who haven’t bought either one of the titles yet.

Back then, The Pokemon Company didn’t release any information regarding the pricing of these physical versions. However, pre-orders for Pokemon Sword + Expansion Pass and Pokemon Shield + Expansion Pass were recently discovered by fans on Amazon. Based on the information found there, the Pokemon Sword and Shield DLC bundles are scheduled to be released on November 6, 2020.

If you look at the US prices, these bundles cost $89.99. If you check Nintendo’s official store, the standalone versions of each title still retail for $59.99, while the Expansion Pass is priced at $29.99.

So if you do the math, the bundles aren’t necessarily that different price-wise than if you buy the base game and DLC separately. In any case, some retailers may be selling a copy of either Pokemon Sword or Pokemon Shield at a much cheaper price, since these two games have been out for nearly a year now.

As such, those players who want to save as much money as possible should just say goodbye to these DLC bundles if they’re willing to pass it up. However, we completely understand if you’re dying to get your hands on the DLC expansions such as the Crown Tundra DLC.

After all, the DLC gives you the chance to battle and catch every Legendary Pokemon to have made an appearance in the series thus far. Not only that, but there will be a lot of returning Pokemon as well, Dragonite and Garchomp being two of them.

You’ll also encounter the Legendary Bird trio and their new Galarian forms. If that’s not enough to win you over, the DLC features an all-new tournament that allows you to be partners with either a rival or a Gym Leader in 2v2 matches.

As far as we know, the Expansion Pass only contains two DLC pieces and these are the Crown Tundra and the Isle of Armor. The latter was launched near the beginning of the year.

However, some fans have been speculating that a third DLC is currently being developed. The rumors say that the unannounced DLC will be set in the Kalos region, which is a region from Pokemon X and Y.

That said, this is merely rumors at this point and there are no indications that it could be true, although time will tell. Speaking of rumors, there have been numerous rumors about Pokemon’s 25th anniversary, which is taking place next year.

Some say that Pokemon HeartGold and SoulSilver could be ported to the Nintendo Switch, while others hope for full-on remastered versions of all the previous Pokemon titles. Given how complex the latter is, it’s very unlikely to happen.

Twitch Streamer Reckful’s Death Officially Ruled as a Suicide

Last July, Byron “Reckful” Bernstein passed away at the young age of 31. He was well-known as a video game streamer on Twitch as well as a World of Warcraft player in the pro scene.

During that time, his cause of death wasn’t confirmed yet, but his loved ones implied that he took his life. Now, after the Travis County medical examiner’s notes were made public knowledge, it has been ruled that Reckful’s death was, in fact, a suicide.

According to TMZ, the medical examiner’s report states that the streamer was already pronounced dead on the spot after he could no longer be resuscitated by the emergency responders. However, we don’t know how much time passed between Bernstein taking his own life and when the emergency responders made an appearance.

Before his death, Bernstein made some pretty troubling tweets that understandably worried his friends, family, and fans. One of his tweets said, “ahh, i feel bad for anyone who has to deal with my insanity.”

He made a follow-up to this tweet saying “please just know in these situations the insane person does not feel in control of their actions.” Shortly after he sent out those tweets, reports started circulating that the beloved streamer was no longer with us.

This was later confirmed by his ex-girlfriend who is well-known by her online handle ‘BlueGoesMew,’ as well as by another streamer known as NymN and esports journalist Rod Breslau.

Bernstein was never afraid to talk about his mental health and how much he struggled with it. As such, his fans were already pretty aware that he grappled with depression. He also made an appearance on the HealthyGamerGG show, which is where he revealed to the world that he was diagnosed with Bipolar Type 2 as a child.

The death of Bernstein was definitely a shock to the Twitch streaming community, which led to numerous content creators talking about it and making a statement about it. He was mostly known for playing World of Warcraft, as such, the community was also heartbroken by the news.

To mourn the loss of Reckful and to show gratitude for all he has done for the community, countless World of Warcraft players from all over gathered together to host in-game memorials.

Blizzard also paid tribute to Bernstein’s passing by adding him to World of Warcraft as an NPC. You will be able to interact with an NPC named Reckful once World of Warcraft: Shadowlands gets released.

Reckful was known for primarily using a Rogue character in World of Warcraft, so it makes sense that Blizzard decided to make the NPC a Rogue Trainer. That being said, this wouldn’t be the first time that Blizzard included him in the game.

In 2018, Blizzard added a character named Byron Burnside to World of Warcraft, and this character was based on Bernstein. The fact that even Blizzard paid tribute to the streamer just goes to show just how much he meant to people and how his passing impacted the community.
