Amazon Fires Delivery Driver Stealing a Kid’s PlayStation 5

Amazon has fired a delivery driver who was caught on cam driving off with a customer’s PlayStation 5. Sony’s next-gen console was launched a few weeks ago to astound demand across the world. Any retailer website that stocks the new system sees it sell out in minutes. Gamers’ desperate rush to get their hands on the new console has resulted in retailer websites crashing countless times on release day every time they tried to restock units.

Sadly, it isn’t just players who are striving to secure the PlayStation 5. Much of the extremely high traffic volume has been associated with scalpers, who are utilizing bots to fill their carts with as many PlayStation 5s as they can the minute stock becomes available.

These units are then sold at an unreasonable rate on websites such as eBay. Sadly, these scalpers have achieved enormous success in securing that their inventories are filled. A group of scalpers in the United Kingdom revealed that they currently have at least 3500 PlayStation 5 in stock, considerably more than major sellers can have, and obviously they are offering the units at an extremely ridiculous price.

The hype for these next-gen consoles is receiving such a high pitch that some fans are getting outright audacious in their impatience for a PlayStation 5. Eurogamer reported that a woman from Oxfordshire, whose son just turned 16 on the same day as the PlayStation 5’s release day.

The mother was extra lucky to get a PlayStation 5 as a birthday gift, but on delivery day, a security camera caught the delivery driver, after handing over other packages to houses in the neighborhood, kept the PlayStation 5 inside the vehicle and drove away.

The family contacted Amazon, who only offered a gift card to temper them at first. However, when they presented the footage of the delivery guy driving away with the unit, the company pledged to make more severe action and fired the thief responsible for the robbery. As of writing, the family has not yet received any replacement for the missing unit.

As dangerous as the PlayStation 5 stock landscape has been in the West, matters are even worse in the United Kingdom. Not only do they have to contest with the same horribly low stocks, crashing retailer sites, and high traffic, but successfully getting an order isn’t even the end of the battle.

Even orders that don’t get downright stolen might not contain the next-gen console at all. Customers in the United Kingdom have reported receiving cat food or air fryers in their shipments which were supposed to contain Sony’s new console, and Amazon doesn’t look like it’s capable of handling this anomaly.

As upsetting as the scarcity in supplies, it’s not at all surprising. Even before the consoles released, Xbox CEO Phil Spencer predicted an absolute failure to meet the demand of both the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X.

It is disheartening to witness the depths to which gamers are prepared to get their hands on the brand new consoles, and it is even more heartbreaking to realize that there are still no signs that things will get better. Only one can hope that the teenager from Oxfordshire has a better birthday next year.

Space Invaders Forever Collection Will Be Released On The Nintendo Switch And PS4

If you’re looking for a classic game to play, then you’ll be glad to know that the Space Invaders Forever collection will be bringing back a series of classic titles onto modern platforms.

The collection in question contains three games overall, and it’s set to release this December 11 for the Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4. It’s supposed to launch both digitally and physically with a price of $29.99.

For some sad reason though, the Space Invaders Forever collection won’t be released in all regions of the world. Specifically, only gamers who live in North America, Europe, Australia, and New Zealand will be able to purchase and enjoy it.

For those who buy the collection, they will be given access to the following games: Space Invaders Extreme, Space Invaders Gigamax 4 SE, and Arkanoid vs Space Invaders. The latter will be released for the very first time on consoles.

For those who are unfamiliar, Arkanoid vs Space Invaders contains two video game elements that are commonly found in classic titles that gamers love so much: shoot’em and brick breaking.

It was originally launched for mobile devices, and it has players hitting incoming ships using balls that bounce off walls. What makes Arkanoid vs Space Invaders even more appealing is the fact that it features 40 classic Taito characters, including Bub and Bob from Bubble Bobble.

To make the game interesting, each character has different abilities and skills that will help the player win each level, such as protective fire and power-ups. Those who want to buy the collection will be glad to know that Arkanoid vs Space Invaders alone has a hefty amount of content to go through. Specifically, there are 150 stages.

Final Fantasy is one of the most long-standing franchises out there, with the series beginning in 1987. Throughout the years, Square Enix has released numerous spin-off series as well as highly-beloved mainline ones.

2020, despite being a turbulent year for most, has been a great one for the Final Fantasy franchise. For instance, Final Fantasy 7 Remake was recently nominated for Game of the Year at The Game Awards 2020.

Not only that, but Square Enix also revealed the next installment for the series, Final Fantasy 16. However, the release of Final Fantasy 15 has been fairly recent, with the game officially launching last 2016.

With the title celebrating its 4th anniversary, a throng of Final Fantasy 15 fans have come out to show their love and appreciation for the game and for the company that created the franchise.

If you type the hashtag “FFXV” on Twitter, you will find a multitude of posts from fans talking about the game and how much it means to them. There’s a variety of tweets dedicated to the game’s anniversary — from cosplays, screenshots of favorite or iconic scenes, to fan art.

New Genshin Impact Character Demo Showcases Rocker Xinyan

Genshin Impact may have only been out for two months, but developer miHoyo has been working hard to ensure that the free-to-play title only gets even better. As a matter of fact, the game already received it’s very first major update recently, which introduced not only new characters but new features as well.

The first special banner to celebrate the latest 1.1 update was entitled “Farewell of Snezhnaya,” which featured the 5-star character Tartaglia “Childe,” as well as the 4-star character Diona.

Now, it appears that the newest event wish is called “Gentry of Hermitage” and it features new characters for players to attempt to pull via Genshin Impact’s gacha system. To keep the players both excited and informed, miHoYo tends to post about these new characters on its social media platforms along with a character demo reel.

These videos typically showcase the new character’s theme, voice actors, as well as their abilities. These character demos are then posted on YouTube, giving players outside of Twitter an idea about what they can expect if they acquire that particular character.

We can imagine that miHoYo had western fans in mind when it worked on Xinyan, as her personality and accent suggest that she’s an aspiring musician from the heartland. She travels the expansive world of Teyvat with just her ginormous sword and guitar.

Of course, we’re not saying that traveling musicians don’t exist in other countries because they do. However, the clear southern accent — at least in the English version — gives the implication that miHoYo had a specific demographic in mind for Xinyan.

The new video for Xinyan was only a short demo, so there’s still a chance that the developer will release a Character Tales video for her. That being said, Xinyan is going to be the last character to be introduced from the 1.1 update. As such, fans will probably have to wait until Genshin Impact version 1.2 for more character spotlights.

Xinyan’s cheery and light personality may undoubtedly be different compared to the other already-existing characters, but she looks like she fits right in. Besides, Genshin Impact players are always so welcoming of any new playable character, as this means that they have more options to choose from to create the perfect party.

Amateur Developer Creates Remakes of Classic Legend of Zelda CD-i Games

You may not know this, but The Legend of Zelda franchise actually has a very strange spin-off series that was released on a completely different console. Specifically, there were three The Legend of Zelda games that were released on the Philips CD-i, namely, Link: The Faces of Evil, Zelda: The Wand of Gamelon, and Zelda’s Adventure.

This series was made possible due to a licensing agreement between Philips and Nintendo, allowing the former to use the latter’s characters for third-party titles. This is something that’s not commonly done today, partially because the CD-i games turned out so badly.

The aforementioned titles are well-known for their extremely bizarre cutscenes and side-scrolling mechanics. What makes things even stranger is the fact that the highly-beloved Link comes fully-voiced.

As years pass by, these games earned a notorious reputation in the video game community. Thanks to an amateur developer though, curious The Legend of Zelda fans were given the opportunity to experience the CD-i games again or for the first time.

The developer in question goes by the name Dopply on Twitter, where he shared download links to the remade versions of Link: The Faces of Evil and Zelda: The Wand of Gamelon.

These two games were enhanced with brand-new features that weren’t available on the original version, such as subtitles, better controls, and widescreen support. According to the developer, it took him four years to work on this project.

In addition, he stated that he decided to create these re-imagined versions in order to “fulfill an in-joke between friends” as well as to teach himself about game development. Dopply added that “the programming got a little rough” but it was a great learning experience.

That being said, it’s definitely very interesting to see just how different the gameplay mechanics of the CD-i games are compared to the usual titles that have been released by Nintendo. Even the older Zelda titles by Nintendo looked nothing and played nothing like the CD-i titles.

The animated cutscenes look rough, as if the footage came from the aftermath of a cartoon that got stuck in its planning stages. In addition, being able to put a voice on the ever-silent Link is something that just didn’t sit quite well with many of the franchise’s fans.

Nintendo has always been known for being way too protective of its games, so much so that it would usually shut down any fan projects that gain traction. For instance, fans were recently upset with Nintendo for forcing a Smash Bros. tournament to get canceled simply because the event would have used a third-party multiplayer software.

However, it seems that the company will be giving the Philips CD-i games a free pass this time around, especially since Nintendo doesn’t seem to have any plans on acknowledging that these games even exist at all.

Unfortunately, Dopply only put the games up for a few hours, and now they’re no longer available for download. On the bright side, there are tons of playthroughs available to watch on the internet, so players who missed Dopply’s remasters can watch those instead.

One Valorant Dev Responds to Fan About Map-Specific Queues

The team over at Riot Games who is responsible for the development of Valorant has had a lot of discussion concerning the future of the game’s maps. Riot Games has never shied away from openly talking about Valorant’s upcoming maps and characters.

Previously, it was revealed that the development team doesn’t want there to be a long period of time wherein new content isn’t being released. However, there aren’t a lot of options available right now that allow players to practice and experience the various maps in Valorant.

Fortunately, one Riot Games developer responded to one Twitter user regarding this exact concern after the user in question requested the addition of separate map queues.

For those who aren’t familiar with Valorant’s queueing system or are still trying to learn more about the game itself, players aren’t given the ability to choose which map they’re going to play on unless a custom game is created.

In a way, they can technically choose a specific map thanks to that particular mode. The next problem would be gathering a sufficient number of players for the custom game, which isn’t as easy as it sounds.

Besides, Valorant doesn’t really have any casual game modes right now where players who aren’t overly-competitive can play and experiment on the different maps against other real players.

As such, this can cause problems when a new map does get added because the fact that maps get randomly selected when queuing for a match can make it difficult for players to experience and learn about the new map first-hand.

Recently, a fan who goes by the Twitter handle @Nicememe765 requested Riot Games to “please put a separate queue so that we can quickly get some experience.” Eventually, the fan brought up the latest map, Icebox, saying that they have a difficult time mastering the map or at least getting used to it because players keep dodging it when it gets queued.

One of Valorant’s developers, who goes by Altombre on Twitter, responded to the fan and addressed this concern. Altombre confirmed that including map-specific queues is something that the team has previously talked about. However, he doesn’t mention if this kind of feature will be introduced to the game soon or even at all.

In any case, this is definitely great news for those who want the chance to experiment and gain valuable experience when a new map drops, allowing them to play better and perhaps even win.

On the other hand, there’s a potential issue that lies within the addition of a new, map-specific queue. More specifically, this could potentially disrupt Valorant’s matchmaking. Icebox may be the newest map, but it’s currently the least liked map on Valorant.

If Riot Games allows players to choose which map they can play on, this could significantly reduce the number of players on disliked maps such as Icebox. If the team somehow finds a way to properly handle this kind of feature, however, it would be a great way for players to master each map.

That being said, the possibility that Riot will be making some changes to Valorant’s queuing system is simply speculation right now. What we can say for sure though is that Valorant’s development team is working hard to release more maps in the future, most of which will most likely follow Icebox’s design.

Minecraft Now Has 600 Million Active Players

It can’t be argued that Minecraft has been on the up and up again ever since its launch last 2009. The sandbox video game quickly rose to the top and became one of the most popular titles in the video game industry.

Mojang’s successful game remains popular even until today. As a matter of fact, new reports suggest that Minecraft has reached 600 million active players, and it appears that 400 million of those players are from China.

This new information was revealed by Niko Partners’ senior analyst Daniel Ahmad, who is known for reporting about the video game industry in Asia. Ahmad shared in a tweet last week that Minecraft received 100 million new players from China this year alone, which increased the current total Chinese players to 400 million. Ahmad notes that this is the fastest growth Minecraft has seen since launch.

Mojang also revealed earlier this year that the game was able to sell 200 million copies globally. This number includes all the platforms that currently support Minecraft, including mobile platforms, which are actually still seeing a continuous rise in players.

That being said, it’s not surprising that Minecraft was able to hit such impressive milestones and we’re sure that it will continue to reach more for many years to come. Many gamers turn to Minecraft for its complex gameplay despite its somewhat simple-looking aesthetics.

After all, players are given the opportunity to do whatever they want to do in this open-world game. It’s completely up to the players whether they want to just explore, fight mobs, or build and craft all kinds of things. Plus, it’s a great game to play with friends.

In other news, Mojang had a live stream presentation last month where it showcased all the fun and exciting things that will be coming to Minecraft at some point in the future. One announcement that fans are really looking forward to is the Caves and Cliffs update.

Even though The Warden won’t be able to see players, they will still be able to know their location due to their super-sensitive hearing. According to the developer, The Warden wasn’t designed to be hunted by those playing the game.

Nintendo Shares Tips on How to Sanitize the Nintendo Switch and its Joy-Cons

Fortunately, Nintendo has shared a few tips on its website discussing the best and safest ways to clean and disinfect the Nintendo Switch and its Joy-Cons. According to the English support page of Nintendo, you need to use alcohol-based products if you want to sanitize your console.

That being said, Nintendo notes that it’s best to only use consumer-grade alcohol that’s primarily meant for disinfection. Not only that, but it also recommends using alcohol that doesn’t go over 70%. Once this specific kind of product has been obtained, you can then proceed to disinfect your Nintendo Switch.

The process is pretty easy: simply pour the right amount of alcohol on a soft cloth, and then lightly wipe the product with it. One vital thing to remember when sanitizing the console is that you shouldn’t directly pour alcohol onto it. Obviously, this will cause major problems for the device as it’s neither water-resistant nor waterproof.

You can use this same process if you wish to disinfect the console’s accessories as well, such as the Joy-Con controllers. However, you need to be extra careful with this one, as you might accidentally push in debris inside the controller.
