Blizzard Unions Protest Versailles Office Closure

For the longest time, Blizzard was a company beloved by fans. You could even say that the company was an icon in the video game industry, as it produced titles that left an impression on the hearts of many and even hosted conventions where fans could gather and celebrate its works.

Even now, there are dedicated fans who are patiently waiting for the release or at least rumors of Overwatch 2. However, the last few years haven’t been good to Blizzard, in fact, it’s safe to say that its popularity has continued to dwindle.

For one thing, Blizzard was acquired by Activision, which is another company that has a reputation that’s not all that great in the video game community. Blizzard’s philosophy used to ensure that the games they delivered were of good quality, albeit they were released at a slow pace. However, this was no longer the case after the acquisition.

Since then, Blizzard has made some pretty poor judgments that didn’t help in bringing back their fans’ trust. Now recently, it appears that the company has made a very serious decision that has gotten a lot of people heated.

In a recent announcement, Blizzard made the decision to shut down its Versailles office. According to the employees, the decision was revealed after the company kept on denying that they planned to close the office at all.

The original plan was that Blizzard would transfer the laid-off employees to its London office, however, this was abandoned due to complications caused not only by the coronavirus pandemic but by Brexit as well.

As such, the future of these workers is now uncertain, especially since the job market is not doing too well these days given the fact that we’re in a global pandemic. However, it appears that Blizzard’s decision has been opposed by the masses, as three Blizzard workers’ unions have called for a strike against the company at least until they change their decision.

The decision has been deemed unbelievable especially considering the global situation we’re in. In addition to that, the three unions shoot down the idea that the reason for the cutback is COVID-19.

According to them, this isn’t Blizzard’s first time trying to lay off employees from the office. In fact, the company has attempted twice and lost in court both times. The union also reports that the working conditions in the Versailles office were significantly lowered following Blizzard’s loss in court. There is speculation that the most likely reason for the office’s closure is that Blizzard wants to avoid European taxes.

Many fans of Blizzard games and even companies have decided to stand behind the unions, among which are other French tech companies. As a matter of fact, there have been massive gatherings in World of Warcraft in-game, while #KeepVersaillesOpen has started to become trending on Twitter.

Right now, we have yet to see what the future holds for those employees at the Versailles office. Unionization and strikes aren’t common in the video game industry, as such, we’re intrigued to see how this one ends.

Other fans have been calling for the boycott of Blizzard and its games, but we’re not sure how many will commit to it given the fact that the Shadowlands expansion for World of Warcraft will be released soon.

Call of Duty Devs Remove Overkill Perk in Anniversary Update

Call of Duty Mobile has been teasing the Overkill perk for a long time now, with a lot of players waiting for it to be introduced into the game. The perk’s icon was already added in the game several months ago, but it is still locked. However, in the Call of Duty Mobile Anniversary update, the perk was removed from the game suddenly.

Call of Duty Mobile is planning to commemorate its first anniversary for the whole month. The new update contains various themed content along with a few much-awaited features for the Call of Duty community.

However, the removal of the Overkill in the new update means the famous perk will not be included in the game just yet. As of writing, the developers have yet to make an announcement as to why the feature has been removed.

Some players are speculating that the perk could be going through bug fixes or balance changes since the perk grants players the ability to dispose of their secondary weapons and instead equip another primary weapon. This can be significantly beneficial for sniper rifle users since they can also equip an SMG or assault rifle to have a gun for any situation.

Even though the Overkill perk was removed, it was quickly replaced by the Restock perk. The Restock works as a utility perk as it automatically recharges equipment in twenty-five seconds. In contrast to Overkill, Restock is a weaker perk and will be less used. Both perks belong to the Tactical Perks family and are usually revamped or overhauled because of balance issues.

Regardless, there are still tons of new content coming to the game this month. The recently released update contains new blueprints, operators, and a special anniversary event which will coincide with the upcoming Halloween events. These upcoming events will debut exclusive cosmetics and game modes to Call of Duty Mobile making the month of October a favorite time for fans of the game.

There are other improvements to the perks that fans might have not noticed after the update was released. The Tactician perk was added into the game which gives players the ability to carry another piece of tactical equipment. The final perk also received a new addition called Launcher Plus allowing players to add another single reserve ammunition to all launchers available in the game.

More details on how to unlock new perks will be available as the anniversary event progresses. Until then, Call of Duty Mobile players must patiently wait on what the developers have stored for them during the game’s first-anniversary event.

Sony has just revealed the PlayStation 5’s user interface, giving fans a glance at what they can anticipate from the next-gen console’s menus and dashboards when it launches next month. Sony has been gradually building towards the launch of the new console and has been intently preparing the PlayStation Network for the adjustments. Microsoft’s next-gen console will allow its owners to play games from the past three generations of Xbox systems and all games will get some kind of performance improvement. However, the PlayStation 5 will only be able to run PlayStation 4 games and Game Boost will only work on some of them.

It is bizarre for the user interface of the PlayStation 5 to be explained in detail prior to its launch. However, the latest upgrades in the PlayStation 5 means that Sony has been able to entirely revamp how its user interface work, making a better system for its players.

Hopefully, this will also mean that the PlayStation 5 will not suffer from the same issues that the PlayStation 4 has in terms of firmware updates.

Call of Duty Mobile Adds Alcatraz Map to celebrate 1st anniversary

The Call of Duty 1st Anniversary update has been officially released across the world. Players can expect a lot of surprises coming to the game for the whole month of October starting with a new map for the game’s battle royale mode – the Alcatraz map from the Call of Duty Blackout game.

There’s no better way to commemorate the first anniversary of Activision’s most successful mobile game, Call of Duty Mobile than to celebrate it with one of the most famous and original battle royale map of the same series.

As a matter of fact, there was a time that a rumor emerged saying that the developers might bring back the original battle royale mode rather than a Warzone integration. While this speculation remains unclear, the development team chose to give its Call of Duty fans a Blackout cure.

Alcatraz Battle Royale

In an official press release by Activision, the studio confirmed that the Alcatraz map will be coming to Call of Duty Mobile but for a limited time only and it will be the game’s second battle royale map next to the original.

A part of the statement reads:

“First seen in Blackout in Call of Duty: Black Ops 4, Alcatraz challenges players to fight for survival in and around the infamous San Francisco Bay prison.”

Alcatraz is a smaller map than Isolated, our original BR map, placing a greater focus on close-quarters engagements. Keep your head on a swivel and take advantage of the map’s verticality to get up high and rain destruction on your enemies below. Gather your loot fast, watch those corners, and be the last squad standing.”

If fans think the 10v10 multiplayer mode was violent, then the narrow and isolated map of Alcatraz will be a new heart-racing experience. Sadly, players who like to play the battle royale alone will not be able to join alone since the new Alcatraz battle royale mode is only playable in Squads (teams of four). Regardless, players can always uncheck the “Fill the Squad” box to play the new mode alone but this means they will be going up against grouped opponents.

Party Mode

It seems like the developers are taking a similar step from Epic Games’ Fortnite Party Royale. However, in the case of Call of Duty Mobile, it is named “The Club”. Players can enter “The Club” by touching the small Call of Duty Mobile logo behind their character once they are in the game’s lobby.

The Club seems like an underground bar with a DJ playing songs, a dancing area, and various minigames. Inside, players can socialize with others in the community. Although, there are no announcements yet if a concert will happen during the anniversary since the stage looks like it’s ready to hold a virtual party.

It looks like the developers are still planning a lot of other surprises so Call of Duty players shouldn’t miss any of the Anniversary celebrations as it is a once in a lifetime experience. As for the new battle royale map, fans are hoping that it will stay longer in the game.

New Fortnite Update Teases Possible Return of Midas

When Fortnite was still in Chapter 2 Season 2, it had a spy theme that introduced a character known as Midas. You could even say that he was the highlight of that season, given the fact that his story played such a significant role during that time.

However, the advent of Season 3 brought about a flood to Fortnite, and at that point, fans believed that Midas was no more because it was implied that he was eaten by a shark. Given these new findings though, it seems that the developer isn’t entirely finished with Midas just yet.

It’s already a known fact that the character will be receiving a new skin called Midas Rex, which will be included in the Last Laugh bundle that’s set to release next month in November. It should be worth noting that this bundle will also contain cosmetics for familiar Batman villains, namely Joker and Poison Ivy.

That being said, there’s a pretty high chance that Midas will be returning to the world of Fortnite sooner than anticipated. Just recently, an all-new update was released for the game, but players soon noticed that the patch notes released post-update didn’t include a detailed account of everything new in the game.

One noticeable thing that Epic Games glossed over is the fact that Galactus can now be seen flying in the distance, which is an indicator that he’ll be coming to Fortnite soon.

Another minor yet noteworthy inclusion in this recent update is Midas’ golden chair. Of course, something as minor as this doesn’t necessarily require this much speculation. However, the fact that Epic Games added his chair to Fortnite could suggest that it is planning something related to Midas in the near future.

A common theory is that the character might return to the free-to-play title during the Fortnitemares Halloween update and event. That said, fans have been treated to content leaks regarding the event, focusing more on the new skins you can expect to find available.

However, there has been no news or any indication that Midas will be a part of the said event, although this doesn’t necessarily mean that it’s an impossibility. Right now, we can’t completely rule out his return.

After all, he could still come back as a zombie after supposedly getting eaten by the shark, or perhaps he survived the attack altogether.

That being said, the update also features other new additions that are worth noting. There have been reports that Fortnite now has a new Mythic Ability. These are equippables that take inspiration from the superpowers of Marvel characters.

To be more specific, the new Mythic Ability is called Kinetic Armor and it’s based on Black Panther. This new addition is great because it grants players the ability to run faster, as well as absorb and deal extra damage.

A skin for Black Panther hasn’t been released yet, but if you want to obtain this new Mythic Ability, it’s said that the Stark Industries Supply Drones will contain it.

Last but not least, there have been changes made to the Superstore near Holly Hedges. It’s nothing significant, but we thought to mention that it’s been renamed to Hey Boo Megastore. In fact, it even has a new spooky logo to prepare for the upcoming Halloween event.

From now until October 19th, 10:00 AM EDT, players who aren’t members of ESO Plus can take advantage of a free trial period for The Elder Scrolls Online’s subscription service. Being a member of ESO Plus also means that you have access to exclusive features and perks that allow you to progress faster in the game.

Not only that, but you will be able to access The Elder Scrolls Online’s DLC and everything that comes along with it. As you may have inferred by now, ESO Plus is a subscription-based membership service with multiple payment options, each one having its own designated set of additional permissions and benefits.

When The Elder Scrolls Online was initially released, it was a type of MMO that had a mandatory subscription in order for you to play. The game’s model transitioned to a pay-to-play one back in 2015, but ESO Plus still manages to provide players with significant benefits if they’re willing to fork over money.

One notable thing about being a member of ESO Plus is that you will be able to access all 17 DLCs that are currently available on The Elder Scrolls Online. These include Thieves Guild, Dark Brotherhood, Elsweyr, and Stonethorn, which is the most recent DLC.

If that’s not enough to sway you, there’s more to ESO Plus than an entire library of expansions. We’re definitely beyond impressed by how The Elder Scrolls Online was able to retain its massive 2.5 million playerbase despite being a game that’s already over six years old. Without a doubt, this is all thanks to the hardworking team of developers behind the MMO.

That being said, we don’t think it’s a coincidence that the developer behind the acclaimed title decided to launch the free trial this month. After all, World of Warcraft’s pre-patch for Shadowlands was released on October 13, so we can imagine that Bethesda would want fans to remain interested in their online title. Release Date Announced for Kingdom Hearts: Melody of Memory Demo

It’s an exciting time for Kingdom Hearts fans, especially those who are looking forward to trying out Kingdom Hearts: Melody of Memory. Just recently, the demo for the upcoming title was released on the PlayStation Store’s servers.

You may not be able to download the demo just yet, but you will definitely be able to once its release date comes around. According to the page’s demo listing, the official release date will be on October 15.

A few weeks have already passed since it was revealed by Square Enix during the Tokyo Game Show this year that there will be a free demo for Kingdom Hearts: Melody of Memory before it gets fully released in November.

Since then, we were able to learn a little bit more about the demo, but it wasn’t until today that it was revealed when the demo will be available to everyone.

Based on the PlayStation Store’s dedicated page for Kingdom Hearts: Melody of Memory, the demo’s audio will only be in English. However, you will be able to change the subtitles to Arabic, German, English, Italian, French, and Spanish, depending on your preferences.

Also, the demo’s file size appears to be a total of 579.94 MB on the PlayStation 4. In other news, Square Enix also revealed six of the songs that players will be able to try out on the demo once it’s officially available for download.

From what we can see, the tracks appear to be inspired by different Kingdom Hearts titles, although an exception to the rule is the first original game. That being said, the six songs on the demo are the following:

  • Welcome to Wonderland (Kingdom Hearts 1)
  • Hand in Hand (Kingdom Hearts 1)
  • The Rustling Forest (Kingdom Hearts: Birth By Sleep)
  • Wave of Darkness I (Kingdom Hearts: 0.2 Birth By Sleep)
  • Sinister Shadows (Kingdom Hearts 2)
  • All For One (Kingdom Hearts: Dream Drop Distance)

In actuality, the demo has a seventh song which you may know as “Dive Into the Heart -Destati-.” However, the song will only be made available to you during the tutorial, and once you’ve completed it, you won’t be able to play it again.

If you want to be able to try out the six other songs for free, on the other hand, all you have to do is beat Destati. The first four songs on the list are what the game calls Field Battle songs, and these can be played as singleplayers in the demo.

As for the last two songs, they can only be played on Melody of Memory’s multiplayer mode. As we see it, the demo gives players enough content to prepare for the full version of the game.

After all, you will be given the option to choose between different difficulty modes when selecting a song to try out, namely Beginner, Standard, and Proud mode. In other words, you will be able to practice and master the mechanics.

An important disclaimer, though: the saved data and progress you’ve made in the demo won’t and can’t be rolled over to the full title. As such, you will have to re-earn any achievements you’ve made on the demo.

PUBG Reveals Season 9 Release Date

Just a few days ago, it was announced that PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds will be seeing a new dynamic map soon called Paramo in an attempt to stand out from the battle royale competitors such as Fortnite or Apex Legends.

PUBG Corporation confirmed that this new map will be introduced during the Season 9 update, which will be available to players on October 21st for PC and October 29th for consoles and Stadia.

As for the test servers, these will be available on October 14th for PC and October 19th for consoles. The ninth season of PUBG is drawing closer and closer, which is why its developer has revealed more information about Paramo, how it works exactly, as well as other new inclusions present in the upcoming season.

PUBG Corporation describes Paramo as a zone that contains many, many secrets. It’s said to be situated in the highlands of South America, and the map itself is supposed to have important landmarks that change with every new match.

In other words, it would be impossible for players to memorize the layout of Paramo. As such, players will have to keep switching up their tactics because the map won’t stay the same – which is basically why it’s called a dynamic map.

That being said, you can take note of some constants on the map. For one thing, Paramo has a ginormous volcano that streams and spits out hot lava across the map. Thus, you have to be careful because stepping on it will most definitely kill you, even when you’re on a vehicle.

PUBG Corporation also mentions that Paramo’s Blue Zone will cause more damage to your character more than in other maps. As a matter of fact, it’s entirely possible to end up outside of the game’s play zone. However, staying there for too long will guarantee instant death.

No worries though, because the developers added a new item to PUBG called the Critical Response Kit and its purpose is to easily revive a player.

On another note, we know from the last update that there will be helicopters with supplies flying over Paramo. These helicopters will drop the supplies outside of the play zone, but you can also force them to drop the supplies by shooting them down.

As for PUBG Season 9’s ranked mode, the developer has added a brand-new Ranked Solo queue to the title. In other words, players can now battle it out with other players on their own instead of being in a squad.

PUBG players have requested this feature for the longest time, so it’s a relief to finally see it implemented.

In other news, the upcoming season will also feature a new Survivor Pass as well, however, this one will only last for two months. Compared to other passes, this one is noticeably shorter. However, PUBG Corporation has ensured that it will be easier to complete as compensation.

If you’re keen on earning all the rewards offered by this new pass, all you have to do is reach level 50.

New Assassin’s Creed Valhalla Trailer Showcases Gameplay

The most recent installment in the Assassin’s Creed franchise is Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, and dedicated fans of the series have been looking forward to its Xbox Series X release this November.

The marketing team for the upcoming title has been working extra hard to keep the hype ongoing. In fact, Ubisoft has released a new trailer that deep dives into the gameplay of Assassin’s Creed Valhalla.

The deep dive trailer shows off many of the game’s elements, such as world exploration, Viking combat, the Ravensthorpe settlement, Eivor’s journey, and player choice. In the trailer, you’ll be able to see the core elements you can expect to see in the game, all while providing you a sneak peek of the upcoming title’s mechanics and side activities.

One of the things the video highlights upon is Eivor, who is introduced as the war chief of the Raven clan. Eivor is known for journeying to England just to establish a home for themselves.

As mentioned, the trailer features the settlement of Ravensthorpe, and we can infer from this that this settlement is where the center of Eivor’s story takes place. Ravensthorpe plays a significant role in the story of Valhalla, so much so that it serves as the  “intersecting point for many of Valhalla’s interwoven storylines.”

Not only that, but the settlement is vital when it comes to the player’s progression story-wise. There, you will be able to buy items from merchants, as well as meet characters who will be able to provide you with new quests.

On another note, the Viking settlement in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla is something that players can upgrade. In addition, it’s also possible to unlock new structures for the area, some examples being barracks, a shipyard, a tattooist, and so much more.
