After the unexpected spike in popularity, InnerSloth promised Among Us players that it will be bringing new features and content to the game and it seems like the developer is truly following through on its word.
As a matter of fact, the studio gave its fans an exciting glimpse of the brand-new map that will be introduced to the game in a future update. Among Us hasn’t had a new map since November of last year, which was when the Polus map was released.
As such, it’s not surprising that fans are beyond excited about this new location. Plus, it’s also an indicator that InnerSloth is serious about improving and refining Among Us.
The social deduction game was initially released in 2018, but it saw a huge wave of players earlier this year thanks to Twitch streamers and foreign content creators. Consequently, the indie title caught the attention of other online gamers who decided to try it out as well.
Since the title’s sudden success some time in July, InnerSloth found the drive and inspiration to develop a sequel while continuing to work on the original game. However, the team working on the game came to realize that a sudden increase in playerbase meant technical difficulties, as Among Us was never designed to handle this many players.
In September, InnerSloth decided to cancel Among Us 2 because it wanted to focus its efforts on the already-existing game. That being said, it’s truly amazing how much Among Us has improved so far, especially since InnerSloth is only composed of three people.
Some of the initial improvements made to the game involved transferring it from a single free Amazon server to several sturdier ones, which greatly helped the game cope with the incredible surge in players.
In addition to that, InnerSloth has also made a headstart in revamping the game’s old codebase. The new gameplay features that were supposed to be included in the canceled sequel were implemented in the original game instead.
That being said, popularity also brought bad apples along with it. Namely, Among Us saw an increase in hackers and cheaters, which has kept the team preoccupied as of late as they tried to quickly release fixes.
It appears that InnerSloth finally found the time to work on all the new content planned for Among Us, though. Today, the developer posted a sneak peek of the brand-new map using the official Among Us Twitter account, which was left unused for more than a year.
The shared screenshot showcases a new room from the upcoming map, and we can safely expect that this new location will be bigger than Polus. All we know about this map so far is that it will be inspired by the Henry Stikmin games, so hopefully, the developer will unveil a little bit more about the new map soon.
In a follow-up tweet, the Among Us developers tease fans that more information will be revealed during The Game Awards this December 10. Therefore, those who are “hungry for more” should definitely mark this event on their calendars.
InnerSloth has yet to reveal when the new map will go live, but we might know more details next month.

Cross-Play vs Cross-Gen
Now, there’s a similar term being thrown around in video game articles or forums that you might have come across while browsing: cross-gen games. The two may sound similar, but cross-gen games are completely unrelated to cross-platform games.
To put it simply, cross-gen games are those titles that are available to play on two or more console generations. The best example for this would be The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, which was released on both the Nintendo Switch and the Wii U.
Another good example is GTA 5, as it was released on the PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One. That being said, there are some instances wherein cross-gen games support cross-play i.e. those who play on the Xbox 360 and Xbox One, for example, can log into the same server at the same time.
Since these systems don’t have the same capabilities, however, there’s a chance that gameplay won’t be as smooth as, say, cross-play between the PS4 and Xbox One.
Why Don’t All Games Support Cross-Platform Play?
In a perfect world, all video games would probably have cross-platform support. Sadly, this ideal world only lives in our dreams or exists in a future that is yet to come. For now, it’s close to impossible for all online video games to be compatible with cross-play, and one major reason for this has to do with development costs.
Studios need a lot of money in order to port their games to other systems. At the same time, they have to ensure that the game continues to run smoothly for the players and that it doesn’t go through any bumps.
We’re personally not video game developers, so we don’t know what developers have to go through just to port a game to another platform. However, we can imagine that there’s more to it than just changing a bit of code.

Rocket League is perfect for those individuals with hobbies that include both soccer and cars. The quirky and fast-paced title was initially released in 2013, and it has since become extremely popular on the digital storefront, Steam.

The campaign narrative of this first-person shooter definitely stands out from the rest in that it has one of the most realistic plots in the franchise: 21st-century warfare. That, along with its smooth cross-play multiplayer experience, gives the players more than enough reason to keep playing.

Genshin Impact
Created by Chinese developer miHoYo, Genshin Impact quickly saw a constant rise in popularity ever since its successful global launch a few months ago. Free-to-play open-world titles such as this are fun to play when you’re alone, but being able to play and form parties with your friends adds a whole new dynamic to the gameplay.
Fortunately, Genshin Impact supports cross-play, so fans can play across multiple devices, namely PC, PS4, and mobile. That being said, you need to keep in mind that you can only perform virtual meet-ups with different players if both of you are on the same server.
In other words, if you’re on the Asia server and your friend is on the Europe server, then it would be impossible for both of your characters to meet.

Last but not least on our list is Hi-Rez’s Smite, which is one of the biggest and most popular games in the MOBA genre. Smite has been out since 2014, but cross-play support was only implemented last year.
Better late than never, though. Finding players to compete within a match has gotten much faster and easier thanks to the fact that Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC players can all get entered into the same lobby.

Ring Fit Adventure has received a remarkable amount of fame and sales in China. According to the president of the company, Shuntaro Furukawa, Ring Fit Adventure’s sales in China have literally caused the sales of the Nintendo Switch to improve as a result.
Furukawa also revealed that as a direct result of this recently discovered success, the company has started to introduce methods of localizing their titles and hardware for different regions of Asia in addition to China.
In a way, this makes so much sense. In addition to Ring Fit Adventure, a usual game that a lot of players were buying during the quarantine period was Animal Crossing New Horizons. During the start of the pandemic, Animal Crossing New Horizons became one of the fastest-selling Switch games ever launched, and likely saw its fair share of success in Asia as well.

Hot Toys has recently announced a new set of Cosbaby collectibles, and this time, the 1/6th scale figures are based on Miles Morales and his countless adventures as Spider-Man.
The Cosbaby figures feature Miles in his iconic black and red Spider-Man suit while he does his signature poses. Each one also features the classic bobblehead look, which is a signature feature for Cosbaby products.
In addition to that, we can see that this Cosbaby collection touts the character’s unique powers, which made an appearance in the recent Spider-Man: Miles Morales game.
The creative team behind this collection designed them with convenience in mind i.e. the figures can easily be displayed anywhere and everywhere with the use of magnets. There are 7 figures included in this collection, and each one of them is unique.
Although, there’s an obvious focus on Miles either sitting on rooftops or web-slinging. There’s even one figure wherein Miles is sporting a winter outfit, which is a clear reference to the recent Spider-Man: Miles Morales video game as it’s set during the winter season. The bobblehead figure definitely looks adorable wearing a scarf and beanie.
Unfortunately, Hot Toys hasn’t announced the release date or the price for these adorable, must-have collectibles, but interested buyers will be happy to know that pre-orders will be available soon.
So far, this partnership between Insomniac Games and Hot Toys is the biggest one yet with the purpose of promoting the brand-new game. Before the game was released though, the studio collaborated with Jaden Smith to hype up the game.
In this partnership, Jaden Smith released a new music video for his song called “I’m Ready,” which is featured in the game itself. The music video in question features gameplay from Spider-Man: Miles Morales cross-cut with Jaden singing on a roof.
Jaden’s song and music video are only two of the many ways Insomniac promoted the game. As a matter of fact, the developer even partnered with Adidas, who is selling a pair of shoes that are completely inspired by Miles’ own sneakers.

Immortals Fenyx Rising is a new fantasy adventure game from Ubisoft where players will take the role of the Greek fighter Fenyx to rescue the Gods of Olympus and ultimately, save the world. Lately, Ubisoft revealed that the Greek-themed Immortals Fenyx Rising will have a season pass which comes with three post-launch DLCs.
This is part of Ubisoft Quebec’s post-release roadmap for Immortals Fenyx Rising. The season pass for the game includes three story-driven expansion storylines – The Lost Gods, Myths of the Eastern Realm, and A New God.
Each will provide new characters, new locations, new storylines, and new combat gameplay to go along with them. Players can now preorder the season pass and those who do will get a bonus quest, When the Road Gets Rocky, that comes with unique rewards.
The first DLC is titled A New God and is set after Immortals Fenyx Rising’s main campaign. It builds upon the game’s take on Greek mythology as Fenyx is challenged by the Gods of Olympus in order to join their ranks.
Players will be able to explore Olympus, the home of the Olympians themselves, and engage in various tasks given by Zeus and the other gods. By accomplishing these tasks, Fenyx will have the chance to change the world as the Greek pantheon itself, though how is not disclosed.
The second DLC is called Myths of the Eastern Realm, where the game will deviate from the setting of Olympus and the Golden Isle to that of Chinese mythology. In this expansion, players will take the role of Ku, a new hero who starts his journey fixed in the founding of Chinese mythology. The DLC will feature new gameplay, new locations, mysterious creatures and figures to face, and new challenges for Ku to overcome.
The last expansion, The Lost Gods, takes the story back to Fenyx and the kingdom of the Greek Gods, but this time players will control a new warrior named Ash. Ash is a soldier on a journey assigned by Fenyx to locate the “Lost Gods” of the Greek pantheon and bring harmony back to the world.
This DLC provides a new top-down, isometric view of the game’s open-world while playing as Ash. It adds a new progression system that will let players play around with their own desired game style in the game.
Then there’s the bonus quest When the Road Gets Rocky, where owners take again the role of Fenyx and partner with the trickster Hermes on a new mission. In addition, all players will receive access to daily bonus content such as daily and weekly missions, community quests, vault challenges, skins, and more.
Regardless, Ubisoft Quebec has several post-release contents for players to enjoy that will broaden the world and fun of Immortals Fenyx Rising.

Final Fantasy 7 Remake was one of the most highly-anticipated games this year, and it features enthralling gameplay and captivating visuals. Plus, the improved narrative polished Cloud and the rest of the characters, creating well-rounded characters out of the already-existing ones.
On the other hand, Ghost of Tsushima brought a beautifully-crafted world to its players alongside a storyline that fans can’t get enough of. It’s not exactly a revolutionary title, but it’s still one of the biggest games out there this year.

New Horizons gave players a chance to travel and visit other people’s islands in the safety of their respective households. The game’s bright and charming colors along with its relaxing gameplay have brought smiles to its fanbase, especially to those people who have been going through a difficult time.
Last but not least, The Last of Us Part 2 was one of the most controversial games of this year and its players had polarizing opinions. The game’s bewitching storyline made fans want more though, as it took players on a journey about revenge.
The Last of Us Part 2’s combat saw a signifcant improvement compared to the original title, and the enhanced stealth, as well as the smoother battle animations, were highly appreciated.
It was bombed with negative reviews by countless players for allegedly infusing political views into the game, while on the other side of the spectrum, the game was critically praised. With that in mind, The Last of Us Part 2 is definitely a strong and solid competitor for the yearned-for trophy.
That being said, other nominations worth noting include Ori and the Will of the Wisps for Best Art Direction, Half Life: Alyx for Best Game Direction, as well as Nadji Jeter as Miles Morales for Best Performance.

We’re sure that right now, Kingdom Hearts fans are still having a blast playing Kingdom Hearts: Melody of Memory, which is the most recent game in the franchise. When the game was initially announced, it came as a surprise that Square Enix decided to release a rhythm game.
However, the spin-off is a great way to celebrate and appreciate the music found throughout the series. That being said, die-hard fans will only remain entertained for a while, and right now we still don’t know when Kingdom Hearts 4 will be released.
On the bright side, it seems that the franchise will still be releasing new merchandise while fans wait for Square Enix to announce new games, including a pair of Kingdom Hearts-themed watches that are now available for pre-order.
Japanese retailer U-Treasure recently revealed that dedicated fans can now pre-order the watches in question on its website. Available in either black or white, the watches are embellished with the Kingdom Hearts logo on the back part of the watch face.
In addition to that, the dial is also emblazoned with various symbols that are iconic to the Kingdom Hearts franchise. For instance, there’s the heart, the crown, the Keyblade, and the classic Mickey Mouse icon.
For those who are new to the series and are therefore unfamiliar with these symbols, the crown represents the main protagonist Sora, while the heart is a vital plot element in Kingdom Hearts.
For those who order the watches, they will come with a charming pouch that can be used to keep the watches safe. Similarly, the pouches will also feature the series’ logo and are described on the website as waterproof.
The chic watches are each priced at 27,500 yen, which is more or less $265 USD. U-Treasure is accepting pre-orders starting November 17 through December 25, with the shop planning to ship out the products on that last day.
Unfortunately for Western fans, it doesn’t look like U-Treasure has any plans of releasing the watches outside of Japan. Going through the shop’s website, it looks like it does offer international shipping for select products but the Kingdom Hearts merchandise is sadly not included.
Japan-exclusive products are not unheard of – in fact, it’s actually pretty common. Some fans may understandably find this frustrating and somewhat unfair, but Western audiences aren’t totally overlooked.
As a matter of fact, the OST of Kingdom Hearts 3 was recently released on multiple streaming platforms, including Spotify, Amazon Music, and iTunes. While the physical discs are only available in Japan, it’s still great that fans outside of that country can still listen to their favorite music online.
Not only that, but the most recent Ultimania book will also receive an official English translation for the first time. Dedicated Kingdom Hearts fans have always hoped for an English release for these reference books, as it contains exclusive information about the series that was never touched upon in the video games.
Players will have to wait a little bit before they can get their hands on this Ultimania book. But once it does get released next year though, fans will be able to read all about the series’ lore and story arcs leading up to Kingdom Hearts 3.
In a recent announcement, CD Projekt Red revealed that Gwent: The Witcher Card Game will be receiving a fresh new expansion this coming December 8. So far, the free-to-play card game has seen about five other expansions, and each one focuses on various aspects found within the universe of The Witcher.
Gwent played a big role in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, as fans could play a round or two with various NPCs if they got too tired of doing the main quests. Since the game was so well-received, CD Projekt Red decided to create a full free-to-play game based on the mini-game.
These days, there’s a variety of digital card games to choose from across multiple platforms. However, Gwent is undoubtedly one of the most unique ones out there, as it has separated itself from the gameplay mechanics of the highly-popular Magic: The Gathering.
Not only that, but CD Projekt Red has also used the structure of Gwent as a basis for Thronebreaker, which is a spin-off game that highlights Queen Meve and her story. There are other Witcher tales developed by the studio as well, serving as expansions to the main franchise.
Now, CD Projekt Red has announced Gwent’s sixth expansion on the game’s official website, along with a brand-new expansion trailer. Scheduled to release next month, the Way of the Witcher card set will primarily focus on the mysterious Witchers and their origins.
The set will have 70 new cards in total, featuring 10 cards per faction along with a new keyword and 10 neutral cards. These neutral cards can be used no matter the faction.
The cards found within the expansion will contain some of the most renowned Witchers in the series, as well as the sorcerer Alzur who was responsible for first creating the monster slayers.
Way of the Witcher will truly spice things up for the card game, as it will feature new playstyles depending on the different Witcher schools available. Upon launch, the new expansion will be available for all players and they can download it for free.
That being said, the new cards will come in booster packs. Although, those who want booster packs that only consist of cards from Way of the Witcher will be happy to know that those will be on offer too.
In addition to that, CD Projekt Red also has pre-order deals available. These deals will provide players with a new game board, the ability to gain instant access to the Alzur card, additional boosters, and so much more.

The widespread commotion over Blizzard’s latest changes to the rewards system of Hearthstone has left the company struggling to control the damage, in a continuation of the fan outcry in August. A few hours ago, Blizzard released a press release vowing to make improvements to the new Tavern Pass: “We apologize for the confusion and disappointment we have caused,” it writes, supporting the statement with promises to compensate Hearthstone players with more gold in the later levels of the pass, and guarantees that the event rewards will make up for the unintentional shortage.
A colossal Hearthstone update was revealed last month, which included the questionable decision to enforce a seasonal reward system with select items behind a paywall. News that the outrageous season pass system was dragging its way into Hearthstone shook a lot of players, but Blizzard guaranteed that “one of the goals of the new progression system is to give you more gold, more rewards, and more cosmetics for all player.” However, the reaction was quite the contrary – fans have expressed disappointment over the lowered gold, increased set size, and perplexing store offerings.
Not alarmingly, Blizzard was fast to respond in today’s update that came along with the launch of Darkmoon Faire. In it, Ben Lee, the game’s director, promised that the purpose of the progression track is to “ultimately ensuring players earn more rewards,” and provided a solid promise that the frustrating late track pack rewards will be switched out for a total of 1350 gold. The director also made it clear that future seasonal and bonus events will integrate into the new progression track, providing players more chances to gain rewards.
The feedback to The Tavern Pass from fans remains unenthusiastic at best. Even with the recent update, many regards that the experience progression is very slow, and that gold changes will result in a total loss to players who will not avail of the pass.
The event system in specific is getting a lot of heat, with some considering it as a band-aid slapped to cover a much bigger issue; if fans can’t play the game during these particular times, they don’t want to be left behind.
As of writing, it still doesn’t feel like enough but it’s a step in the correct direction. It’s not surprising that response has been so bad; Blizzard’s Hearthstone season pass has put the company under fire, making it harder to satisfy players regardless of how supposedly beneficial the improvements would be. Slipping so hard on the launch puts Blizzard on their backs, but it’s still not too late for them to recover.
