Genshin Impact, miHoYo’s hit open-world action RPG, has won the Game of the Year for iPhone devices award in Apple’s App Store Best of 2020 Awards, celebrating a remarkable performance for the game’s first few months on mobile devices.

Genshin Impact offers a unique experience in the sense that it is a mobile title that, by all accounts, seems to be much closer to a game that would be playable on the Nintendo Switch. This is emulated in its availability, which, besides Android and iOS, also expands to the PlayStation 4 and PC.

Players concerned that the game would not be able to keep up with the success it achieved in generating millions of dollars in revenue in just its first week of launch have had those fears relieved over time, as Genshin Impact has managed to propagate both its profitability and popularity.

The game has sustained to gather a considerable following in countries across the globe, something that’s even more remarkable given its status as a gacha game – a title, normally seen on mobile devices, that lets players “spin” for their desired heroes against really low odds of getting high-quality characters.

Genshin Impact isn’t overly greedy with its microtransactions and its free to play heroes are more than qualified to compete on the missions and challenges provided by the game, so the game hits the kind of balance that gacha games need in order to retain a thriving gaming community.

Genshin Impact Review – Gacha Highjacked

The game’s ideal balance between exciting luck-based mechanics and irresistible gameplay has helped it launch into the upper levels of the App Store, something that’s mirrored in Apple’s App Store Best of 2020 Awards.

Apple revealed in an announcement a few hours ago that Genshin Impact has won Game of the Year in the iPhone category, and it’s not shocking to see miHoYo’s game take home that recognition. The game’s revenue remains stable and it’s currently in the middle of adding more heroes fans have been hyped about for weeks, and that consistent introduction of new content into a massive open-world map helped keep players coming back for more.

Genshin Impact has been talked about consistently since its launch and feels miles ahead of many other mobile games, so it wouldn’t be shocking to see it awarded with more Game of the Year awards in those categories. What will be exciting to see is how Genshin Impact will fare on a broader scope – will it have the popularity to win any other rewards such as the best action RPG of 2020?

Officially Licensed Poke Ball Replicas Now Available For Preorder

A few hours ago, The Pokemon Company revealed that official Poke Ball replicas are now available for preorders, ahead of their launch early next year. Fans who are interested in getting one should be cautious because no, they are not designed to be thrown. The launch of the iconic Poke Ball is the second batch of new Pokemon products to be revealed this week after 151 various official Pokemon masks were made available on the market.

There have been signs of big plans for Pokemon’s 25th anniversary next year, and as most anticipated, new merchandise appears to play an important role in whatever The Pokemon Company is planning for the occasion.

Obviously, official licensed products have already been a big part of the Pokemon franchise since its humble beginnings, from plushies to t-shirts to trading cards. Poke Balls have always been available in the market, but not to the same degree of quality as the newly revealed product.

According to The Pokemon Company’s official website, they are looking to change that, as it officially revealed that they have engaged in a partnership with The Wand Company to create and distribute high quality, die-cast Poke Ball replicas.

The Poke Balls will be equipped with proximity sensing technology which causes the central button to glare when it detects nearby movements. Pressing the button will change the color of the light or begin a Pokemon-catching lighting sequence. The Poke Ball replica is also capable of performing various eye-catching light shows as well, based on the post.

Each replica comes with a presentation case—authenticated by a uniquely-numbered hologram—and a polished stainless steel ring that provide multiple ways to properly protect and display the product. Fans will also enjoy multi-colored lights when opening the lid of the case, which can be controlled through a touch-sensitive metal plaque on the front of the case.

The post also revealed that other variations of the legendary Poke Ball will be launched throughout 2021 such as the Great Ball, Ultra Ball, and Premier Ball. However, The Wand Company’s FAQ page made it clear that the Poke Ball cannot be opened and under no condition should it be thrown, as it is very heavy and throwing it will easily destroy the item or even hurt someone. The Poke Balls cost $100 (plus shipping and taxes) and preorders are set to arrive to customers on February 27, 2021.

During Pokemon’s 20th anniversary, fans saw the release of Pokemon Sun and Moon, and now, there have been speculations that remakes of Pokemon Pearl and Diamond are currently in the works so next year will be huge for The Pokemon Company as well as for fans.

However, until there is an official announcement about Gen 4 remakes, loyal fans will have to first lay their eyes on their new Poke Ball replicas as preorders have now begun at select retailers.

It Is Now Easier To Share Screenshots On The Nintendo Switch Thanks To A New Update

Nintendo has just released a new update that will allow users to easily share screenshots on their Switch console. This is update is a change of mood after an array of frustrating news from the gaming giant; most terribly, fans recently learned that Nintendo will be terminating its support of the classic Super Mario Maker on the Wii U next year which effectively kills one of the platform’s greatest games.

Despite some unlucky decisions, the Nintendo Switch is still a remarkably successful console. Nintendo has found its way into millions of homes thanks to its unique combination of portable and docked console play.

The only major smudge on the Nintendo Switch’s reputation is the dreaded joystick drifting issue. Countless Switch units have fallen victim to this problem, which sees the JoyCons registering inputs even if there are none and majorly interfering with gameplay. Nintendo has even received lawsuits over its shameful controller design, and even the company’s most loyal allies had to admit that it hasn’t been addressing the problem as well as it could be.

With a new update, Nintendo is addressing a different and, undoubtedly, much less critical problem. Version 11, as called on the Nintendo Support page, lets players transfer their recordings and screenshots to their devices, and thus makes it easier to share them with friends.

Screenshots can now be transferred to the computer via a USB connector. Players will also now be able to prioritize specific downloads, search what games are popular among their friends, and use Brazilian Portuguese as a language. A set of Mario-themed avatars were also included to commemorate the iconic plumber’s 35th anniversary.

The ability to share screenshots is a much larger deal than it appears. As video games have developed in social media, players have expressed a more significant desire to share their playing experiences with each other.

A lot of popular video games have started integrating photo modes just for this specific reason, allowing players to pause the game and look for the right camera angle while fighting a boss or an impressive background. The Nintendo Switch has an exclusive screenshot button built-in its controller, but until now, there is little that could be done with the photo once it is taken.

It is great to see Nintendo trying to enhance its console interface. Speculations of the Switch Pro, an upgraded edition of Nintendo’s endeared hybrid console, are still roaming around, and getting the original Switch’s user interface ironed out is a great first step.

Even if the Switch Pro doesn’t turn out to be true, Nintendo Switch players will certainly appreciate their access to copy and share their favorite gaming memories.

RPG The Good Life Gets Summer 2021 Release Window

If you’re looking for a charming RPG that gives you freedom of choice as well as an interesting mystery to solve, then The Good Life by developer White Owls might be what you’re looking for.

The official announcement trailer for the PlayStation 4 was released recently, but it’s going to launch on the Xbox One and PC too. According to the trailer, The Good Life has a release window of Summer 2021. It may not be a specific date, but at least it’s something.

The Good Life follows a young journalist named Naomi, who used to live in New York but later moved to a small British town called Rainy Woods. The town definitely looks charming, but it has its own secrets.

Naomi, despite being a city girl, was forced to relocate due to a massive debt that she has yet to pay. In order for her to pay back the amount, she needs to take pictures of what’s happening in Rainy Woods and then make a report on each one for The Morning Bell newspaper.

The game gives you different options for Naomi to accumulate money, though, so asides from publishing her pictures in the newspaper, she can also post her photography online via the in-game SNS photo app called “Flamingo.”

The citizens also have a couple of part-time jobs to offer Naomi, so if she’s up to the task, then she can also earn money in this way.

The small town may be dubbed as “the happiest town in the world,” but it’s not as perfect as Noami initially thought. Rainy Woods has its own interesting lore that you will definitely want to discover on your own as you play the game.

The Good Life can be considered as a daily life simulator as well, which suits its open design. In other words, you — as Naomi — will be able to explore and interact with every nook and cranny of Rainy Woods at your own pace.

Now, what makes The Good Life intriguing is the fact that the citizens, Naomi included, transform into cats and dogs once a month. During this period of time, Naomi will be able to choose whether she wants to become a feline or a canine.

You’ll be able to discover the mystery behind this transformation though as you progress in the game. That being said, transforming into either a dog or a cat won’t be a hindrance to Naomi’s journey.

As a matter of fact, the transformation will prove to be beneficial. Naomi can continue exploring Rainy Woods this way and can even take photos using her telescope lens.

Every decision Naomi makes can affect how the game plays. To be more specific, the way she interacts with the citizens and how she responds to the various missions she goes on will affect the story’s outcome, which is why it has multiple endings.

Based on The Good Life’s trailer, which you can watch above, the investigative RPG looks like it could provide potential players with a good time. Interested players should definitely keep a lookout for its release date next year.

Three Aksys Otome Games are Headed to the Nintendo Switch in 2021

screenshot-photo-collage-net-2020-12-02-16_44_26

Aksys Games is a popular video game publisher that primarily focuses on releasing English localizations for Japanese titles. Aksys is also pretty known for releasing English versions of Otome games. In fact, the publisher recently launched yet another Code Realize game for western fans this year.

That being said, it doesn’t look like the company is going to slow down anytime soon, as Aksys’ recent announcement revealed that three Otome titles by Idea Factory — Dairoku: Ayakashimori, Olympia Soiree, and Variable Barricade — will be heading to the Nintendo Switch next year.

For those who aren’t familiar with the term, Otome is a type of video game genre that primarily targets young women. Usually, the heroine of the story will be surrounded by several charming men, and the goal is to form a romantic relationship with one of them.

In recent years, more and more Japanese titles have been receiving localized versions and then consequently released on Nintendo’s hybrid handheld console. This time around, the three otome games that Aksys will be publishing will be joining the ranks of Please Be Happy, a girls’ love visual novel, and other romance-focused games.

Dairoku: Ayakashimori doesn’t have a localized title just yet, but it was initially released in Japan in May of this year. In other words, it hasn’t been out for very long. In this game, players will take on the role of Shino, who is a young woman with the responsibility of overseeing yokai or supernatural entities.

Interestingly enough, these yokai are the romanceable characters in the game as well. That being said, an overview of the game written in a Play-Asia blog post mentions a battle system.

As such, we expect Dairoku: Ayakashimori to deviate a little bit from the usual dialogue-based formula that most Otome games have. We’re definitely excited to see how Shino protects the yokai through these battle sequences.

Next up we have Olympia Soiree, which was also released earlier this year like Dairoku: Ayakashimori. The game follows the story of Olympia, a lady who is having a difficult time trying to find a romantic partner, especially since the society she lives in has a particularly stern class system.

Colors play a huge role in this Otome, so much so that the aforementioned class system is more of a color hierarchy. Olympia happens to be the last remaining white, so she’s pretty high up the ladder.

Being the only white left in her clan, Olympia has to find a partner from the other colors at the age of 18. The game’s concept is pretty interesting and so is its trailer. It’s definitely worth checking out, especially since the color-themed boys look quite charming.

Last but not least is Variable Barricade, which happens to be the oldest game on the list with its initial launch date being 2019. The heroine for this one is named Hibari, and she refuses to follow the carefully laid out plans her wealthy grandfather has for her.

In an attempt to get what he wants, Hibari’s grandfather situates her in a grand villa where he sends potential suitors her way. As the young men do all they can to win her affection, Hibari will do everything in her power not to fall in love.

Aksys Games didn’t reveal a specific release date, but the English versions of all three titles should be available some time in 2021.

Assassin’s Creed Valhalla Players Have Found a Dungeons & Dragons Easter Egg In-Game

0
screenshot-www-youtube-com-2020-12-02-17_44_19

Those who have been fans of the Assassin’s Creed franchise for a long time are aware by now of just how many pop culture references and easter eggs are present in each game. Every game in the series has at least one unexpected reference to other popular franchises, including Batman and Harry Potter.

Assassin’s Creed Valhalla is Ubisoft’s newest iteration, and even though it hasn’t even been a month yet since it’s release, fans are already picking it apart for easter eggs.

Unsurprisingly, fans have already discovered several interesting references in this latest installment, including The Lord of the Rings, Robin Hood, and yet another Harry Potter reference in the form of a manuscript that has the title “Fantastic Fishes And Where To Find Them.”

These easter eggs are usually found by those players who enjoy exploring every nook and cranny of the game. Those who are too focused on completing the game’s main mission usually miss out on these fun little tributes.

It may cause you to spend hours and hours just exploring the world of Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, but it’s definitely worth it once you do find these hidden treasures.

That being said, the most recent discovery has to do with in-game characters who presumably participated in Valhalla’s version of Dungeons & Dragons. Twitch streamer Jambo discovered this little reference and excitedly shared it on her Twitter.

https://twitter.com/PlayWithJambo/status/1333183481770340353?s=20

According to Jambo, there’s an area in Wessex that shows evidence that in-game characters once played the popular tabletop RPG there. The evidence in question comes in the form of four character sheets for a game called “Prisons & Pyewackets.”

The characters in the sheet are a druid, a warlock, an archer, and a “bearserker.” To make it even more obvious that the characters were playing Dungeons & Dragons, left behind in the area are small dice trays which were used to play the game.

Jambo seemed pretty excited about these little details, and we can understand why. There’s definitely something thrilling about finding in-game references that makes the game even more interesting and enjoyable to play.

Without a doubt, discovering what appears to be an insignificant detail at first in an expansive game like Assassin’s Creed Valhalla is definitely rewarding, and we can imagine that this is what Jambo felt too.

People love video games and their easter eggs not only because they make the game more immersive, but they help players escape the real world. However, it’s not entirely uncommon for some easter eggs to make real-world references too.

In this case, one of Assassin’s Creed Valhalla’s easter eggs made a reference to the coronavirus pandemic that changed our lives this year. More specifically, the reference was found in one letter from Layla Hassan, where she writes: “I don’t have Covid, no. And I’m well isolated.” She then clarifies that there’s three of them traveling together at that time, but they’ve made it a point to say “out of sight.”

It’s a definitely jarring reality slap, but it’s interesting to think how COVID-19 has altered our lives in such a significant way that even video game characters are talking about it.

Nier: Automata Still Allows Players to Stream on Twitch With Music

0
nier_blog_bnr_a_20191021_01_small_640x360

As you may or may not know, there’s been a lot of controversy and hubbub over at Twitch, as many streamers have been receiving DMCA takedown notices for even the smallest things.

There’s not a lot that a streamer can do after their videos get taken down except turn to Twitter to voice out their frustrations, which is basically what they’ve been doing. It’s not that hard to get a DMCA notice as of late too — most games that have copyrighted music, sound effects, and voices are being taken down.

To try and solve the issue, Twitch suggested to streamers to simply mute the game’s audio in order to avoid copyright strikes. Of course, this isn’t the kind of solution that streamers want because what kind of gameplay experience would that be?

Fortunately, there’s at least one video game that won’t cause trouble for streamers if they decide to leave the audio and music turned on — Nier: Automata. Square Enix has recently revised Nier: Automata’s streaming guidelines and streamers will be glad to know that the company took the more consumer-friendly route which is pretty refreshing.

In the updated guidelines, Square Enix basically gives players permission to stream the game online. However, there’s going to be a few rules you need to keep in mind if you do decide to stream it.

The first rule is that you need to put up a spoiler warning on your stream for those who haven’t played the game yet. Players speculate that this first rule was requested by Nier director Yoko Taro, but Square Enix doesn’t really say anything about that.

The second rule is that you aren’t allowed to add any overlapping music or sounds to the game. However, you can still talk over Nier: Automata’s in-game sounds and music. This is great news because it’s pretty common knowledge that streamers mostly talk to fans, answer questions, etc. while playing a game.

That being said, there’s one very important rule that you need to remember: you aren’t allowed to extract any sound or music from Nier: Automata and then use it on any other social media platform.

In other words, you can’t just take a video of the game, take out the music, and then stream that very same music on its own even if it’s just for personal purposes.

img_ss_large_05-1321397

Square Enix specifically states in the guidelines that “posting only audio tracks and/or music data as standalone content, and/or posting video content with the sole intention of permitting listening to the game’s music, is not permitted.”

Compared to Harmonix’s streaming guidelines for the rhythm game Fuser, Square Enix’s rules and requests are pretty understandable and they’re not that difficult to follow as well. Unfortunately, it doesn’t seem like other studios and/or IP holders are going to follow Square Enix’s footsteps, which is rather disappointing.

For now, the battle between Twitch streamers and the DMCA is still ongoing, and several streamers have already been banned from using the platform — some were banned temporarily, while others have more permanent consequences.

Pokemon Go Players Displeased With 7km Eggs

0
em-sf_0weaia25n

December has arrived in the blink of an eye, which means that Pokemon Go has officially begun its Season of Celebration event. It appears to be a really timely event too, given the fact that the Christmas season begins in December, which is the time for conveying kindness and goodwill to everyone.

However, it appears that a significant portion of Pokemon Go players hasn’t been feeling the festive and joyous holiday spirit. Instead, they have been frustrated with one particular feature in Pokemon Go, and that’s the Pokemon eggs.

More specifically, the players are unhappy with the current 7km eggs in Pokemon Go and the Pokemon inside them. In case you’re unaware, one requirement in order to hatch a Pokemon egg is to walk a specific number of kilometers, depending on the egg.

If the egg requires you to walk more kilometers than other eggs, there’s a pretty good chance that the Pokemon inside it is rare. In other words, the higher the number, the rarer the Pokemon will be.

ellupj9xeae_nh2

It’s worth noting that the 7km eggs aren’t the rarest ones in Pokemon Go right now, as there are 10km and 12km eggs, but it’s these eggs in particular that seem to have annoyed the players.

Recently, a Reddit user and Pokemon Go player, u/Prymetyme420, posted on the unofficial Pokemon Go subreddit complaining about these particular eggs. The post, which was titled “7 km eggs are trash,” relayed the frustration felt by the user. To be more specific, players have to put in a lot of effort to reach the required number of kilometers only for their eggs to keep hatching the same Pokemon.

The Reddit user specifically mentions how they keep getting the same Alolan forms of Pokemon, which you may remember from Pokemon Sun & Moon. As such, the player wishes that Niantic either lowers their hatch rate for the 7km eggs or remove these forms completely.

Going through the post, it’s clear to see that user Prymetyme420 isn’t the only one with these complaints. The post currently has over 4,000 upvotes and more than 300 comments, with many saying that they feel the same way.

7 km eggs are trash from pokemongo

One other player commented that they hatched a Meowth five in a row, to which another user replied saying that it’s ridiculous how the most common Alolan forms of Pokemon that hatch from eggs are also the same ones that can easily be found in the wild.

One common complaint in the thread has to do with players who need a specific Pokemon to be hatched from an egg, only to never get them. Meanwhile, other players say that they have completely given up on hatching eggs and no longer care about them at this point.

Given how prevalent these complaints are against the 7km eggs, Niantic may want to make some changes to its hatch rates or perhaps implement some balancing adjustments to make the eggs worth hatching at all.

After all, we’re currently in the middle of a global pandemic that restricts our movement, so it’s definitely not easy to walk 7km given the current circumstances. As such, we definitely understand why players would be frustrated if they kept getting the same Pokemon over and over.

Hopefully, Niantic will address this issue and will make some changes on their part to ensure a happy fanbase.

Genshin Impact Releases New Character Trailer for Zhongli

0
screenshot-www-youtube-com-2020-12-02-10_54_33

Gentry of Hermitage, the Character Event Wish Banner dedicated to the character Zhongli, has officially launched in Genshin Impact. To commemorate this moment, developer miHoYo dropped a brand-new character trailer touting the 5-star Geo character, giving players an idea of his capabilities.

Last month, miHoYo unveiled the first banner under the latest 1.1 update, which featured Tartaglia aka Childe, and other playable characters such as the adorable bartender, Diona. This first banner was entitled Farewell of Snezhnaya.

The release of Tartaglia made sense given how Genshin Impact’s Liyue storyline is primarily focused on his character and the Fatui Harbingers. Coincidentally, the other 5-star character Zhongli also plays a major role in this narrative, which is why he now has his own dedicated Banner.

Unlike Childe who is smug and “kind of a bad guy,” Zhongli is calm and nonchalant as he assists the Traveler on their journey in A New Star Approaches. He’s a reserved and polite young man who is more than familiar with Liyue’s history and culture.

The character trailer dedicated to Zhongli is suitably titled “Dominance of Earth.” However, the character has a surprising flaw, which is unveiled in the third Liyue act: Zhongli isn’t that good at handling Mora.

That being said, his combat and playstyle are some of the reasons why players are looking forward to his release, and these two aspects are very obviously highlighted in the trailer as well. In addition, he’s the very first Geo Vision polearm user in the roster of playable characters, making him even more unique than the others.

Zhongli’s passive skills are worth mentioning as well, as he has the ability to take back 15% of ores used when specifically crafting polearm weapons. This has the potential to become an extremely valuable passive talent for those who are constantly forging weapons at the Blacksmith.

As for his normal attacks and Elemental Skills, they aren’t that surprising for someone who has Geo Vision. Similar to the Geo player character (a.k.a Traveler), Zhongli has an Elemental Skill that gives him the ability to make a Geo Construct. For his case though, his Geo Construct is more of a tall and slender pillar that can be used both inside and outside of battle.

screenshot-www-youtube-com-2020-12-02-10_56_32

We refuse to reveal any spoilers, so let’s just say that players who have already undergone A New Star Approaches will have already experienced playing as Zhongli. As such, those players already know just how strong this character can be, especially his ultimate attack.

His Elemental Burst deals incredible Geo damage to its enemies, as Zhongli basically releases a meteor from the sky that will consequently crash-land into the planet. In addition, those enemies who do get impacted by the meteor will also get petrified, albeit temporarily.

It’s also worth noting how Zhongli’s Elemental Burst not only has one of the highest attack percents in Genshin Impact, but it also has one of the fastest cooldowns.

Without a doubt, Zhongli is definitely a character that anyone would want on their team. Although, don’t miss out on the Pyro Vision, Xinyan, as well, who will be joining Zhongli in his Banner.

Dead by Daylight’s A Binding of Kin Chapter Officially Goes Live in New Update

screenshot-www-youtube-com-2020-12-02-08_06_49

Dead by Daylight, the asymmetrical multiplayer horror title by Behaviour Interactive, still receives updates to this day that expand the game’s world with new content. Not only that, but it was also recently released on the PlayStation 5 and the Xbox Series X, two next-generation consoles that launched last month.

In early November, Behaviour Interactive announced the “A Binding of Kin” chapter with a reveal trailer, which introduced two new (twin) killers and one new survivor. Now, this newest chapter has finally been released, marking the first new content released in the game since the launch of the new consoles.

A Binding of Kin is Dead by Daylight’s Chapter 18, and this time around, the developer focused on releasing original creations. It’s honestly quite impressive and horrifying at the same time how the team at Behaviour Interactive was able to come up with terrifying monsters and killers for this game.

This latest chapter introduces Charlotte and Victor, a pair of conjoined twins from France in the 17th century. According to Dead by Daylight’s official website, the twins’ mother was accused of “birthing demons” and was consequently burned alive.

The twins were then sold to a mysterious cult, where they were forced to participate in a variety of strange experiments. After the death of Victor, The Entity — an unknown being who is in control of Dead by Daylight’s narrative — stepped into the picture and is pretty much the reason why both became a united Killer known as The Twins.

Asides from The Twins, Chapter 18 introduced a brand-new survivor known as Elodie Rakoto. Elodie was born in Paris, but her parents’ roots were from Madagascar. In order to cope with her parents’ death, Elodie turned to the occult in an attempt to find some answers.

Elodie has some pretty useful survivor perks up her sleeve, namely Appraisal, Deception, and Power Struggle. Appraisal allows her to search chests faster than other survivors, while she pretends to hide inside lockers with Deception.

Last but not least, Power Struggle can be used when Elodie gets caught by the Killer. If she struggles hard enough against the Killer when being carried away, she has the chance to drop a pallet in order to stun the Killer and escape.

socials-chapter18-thetwins-lore-post-final-5648362

What makes The Twins different from other multi-person Killers in Dead by Daylight, like The Legion, for example, is the fact that The Twins are “two characters that can each be controlled individually.”

Aside from its original collection of horrors, Behaviour Interactive’s Dead by Daylight is also known for its crossovers. Silent Hill’s Pyramid Head was included as a Killer in the game earlier in the year, while this newest chapter introduced its Nightmare on Elm Street DLC to other platforms, including the Stadia, PS5, Xbox Series X, Nintendo Switch, and Windows.

The A Binding of Kin update also continues the A Realm Beyond initiative, which has the goal of updating and improving Dead by Daylight’s maps, among others.

Dead by Daylight was originally released in June 2016, and it’s so great how Behaviour Interactive still continues to release a steady stream of updates and improvements for the popular multiplayer.
