Fortnite Teases Crossover With Aliens Movie

0
maxresdefault-12-9

A new teaser video for Fortnite appears to hint that an Alien crossover of some kind is possibly arriving to the game. While developer Epic Games is sharing mysterious videos on Twitter, fans are steadily awaiting the free-to-play game’s next huge update, which is expected to go online this March in the form of Fortnite Chapter 2 Season 6.

Players are currently occupied with the Zero Point Battle Pass, an event that Galactus initiated at the end of Season 4 upon breaking open a Zero Point. The actions of villain Galactus set the stage for a flat-out pandemonium, effectively releasing multiverse destruction that witnessed areas from past events converge with locales in the game’s existing timeline.

Of course, multiple realities isn’t all that Chapter 2 Season 5 brought to the table – a myriad of unanticipated crossovers entered the mix as well. Characters such as Kratos from God of War were introduced to the game, for instance, alongside The Mandalorian and Master Chief from the Halo franchise. Now, it appears the exciting crossover content won’t soon come to an end.

Epic Games recently posted a rather mysterious clip on the official Twitter account of Fortnite which seems to be teasing upcoming Alien-themed content. The footage runs just 36 seconds in length and exclusively features audio of a person talking into a recording device.

Other than the space-focused references made throughout the short video, several more hints imply that Epic Games has an Alien crossover up its sleeve. For one, the person speaking says that the spaceship he is on appears to have technology dating back to 1986 – the same year James Cameron’s Aliens movie was released in theaters. The speaker also called the recording “Reality Log 426.” A Twitter user with the name Derpenstein23 mentioned that LV-426 can be associated with the Aliens movie franchise since it is the home of the Xenomorph types colony.

Naturally, fans are thinking if a Ripley skin is also on the way to Fortnite. The apparent LV-426 hint suggests Xenomorphs may also be making appearances in the game. Whatever lies ahead, the developers are certainly not yet ready to talk about specific details. More details might show up in the days ahead, though, given the impending launch of Chapter 2 Season 6.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Announces the Addition of Bravely Default 2 Spirits

Fans of Nintendo’s crossover fighting game Super Smash Bros. Ultimate have a lot to look forward to these days. Not only was the addition of Pyra and Mythra from Xenoblade Chronicles 2 recently announced, but it appears that Bravely Default 2 spirits will be added to the game as well, as confirmed by Nintendo.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate’s official Japanese Twitter account recently announced that the new Bravely Default 2 spirits will go live on February 26, 2021, which is when the game itself is set to release. After its release, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate players will be able to come across these additions on the in-game Spirit Board, where they can unlock the artwork via battle.

If previous additions are anything to go by, we expect that these Bravely Default 2 spirits will only be available for a limited time, just like the spirits for Paper Mario: The Origami King back in August 2020. However, these should eventually be available permanently via the in-game shop at some point after.

The official announcement showcases four different characters from Bravely Default 2. However, the description itself states that only two spirits will be added to the Spirit Board. In other words, each spirit will contain two characters—namely Adelle and Elvis for one spirit, and Seth and Gloria for the other one.

This kind of format is reminiscent of the Octopath Traveler spirit event released in 2020, which also makes a lot of sense given the fact that the developers of Octopath Traveler also developed the first two games in the Bravely Default series.

Following the first announcement, the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Twitter account went on to further discuss what these new spirits entail. Apparently, Seth and Gloria are considered to be a 3-Star “Ace” spirit that is specifically categorized into the Blue/Defense class. Players who make use of this spirit will be up against Mii Swordfighter and Zelda, with the battle stage being the Delfino Plaza.

For now, however, it appears that Super Smash Bros. Ultimate has yet to reveal more details about the Adelle and Elvis spirit. But from what we could glean from the spirits’ design, Palutena and Robin may be the ones to represent the duo.

Nintendo announcing new spirits could be exciting news for one set of fans, while being deflating to another. While it’s great that Bravely Default 2 will be featured in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate in some form, the fact that the characters will only be available as spirits means that they most likely won’t be released as playable fighters.

The same thing happened with Impa from Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity, who only received a spirit event. Nevertheless, some fans will still be delighted by the fact that Bravely Default 2 characters will be included in the fighting game to some capacity.

Developer InnerSloth Shares What Among Us Initially Looked Like

0
evabqyqxmaa-1ag

The social deduction game Among Us still has a dedicated fanbase, even though most streamers and gamers in general have redirected their time and attention to other newly released titles like Iron Gate AB’s Valheim. Despite the fact that the indie title was first launched back in 2018, it became incredibly popular only last year because of the COVID-19 pandemic, where people had no choice but to stay inside their homes.

As a matter of fact, Among Us was so popular that it surpassed player milestones at a rapid pace, and there were half a billion active players in November 2020 alone. Many streamers piggy-backed off of the hype as well, causing Twitch streamers like Valkyrae to grow their audience quickly and become incredibly popular as well.

Now, Among Us has undergone a variety of improvements and changes since last year, especially since developer InnerSloth decided to cancel Among Us 2 in favor of enhancing the original game instead. Of course, when it was first in the pipeline, the game looked completely different from the Among Us we know and love today.

Image

Saying that Among Us was an online phenomenon last year is an understatement. In fact, the indie social deduction game reached places InnerSloth could have never dreamed of. For instance, US Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez played the game with other popular Twitch streamers during the 2020 Presidential election, while TV personality Conan O’Brien voiced out his thoughts about the game during a live podcast.

Needless to say that 2020 was an interesting year for Among Us. Even developer InnerSloth still can’t believe how much things have changed for them, saying in a tweet that “everything still feels super unreal.” To show their appreciation to all the fans who have supported the game, InnerSloth has decided to share a few stories and other tidbits of information regarding Among Us and its original development.

For starters, the official InnerSloth Twitter account shared a very short clip of what the Skeld map looked like back in 2018. There’s a very clear difference of the game’s visuals and graphics. Among Us as it is now already has a pretty simplistic style, but this was even more so back in 2018. The 10-second clip also showcased an early version of the “Simon Says” task, which is definitely very interesting to see now.

Dedicated fans of Among Us will surely appreciate this little sneak peek into the game’s past and how much it has changed for the better. However, there are a few players out there who have voiced out their frustrations and disappointment over the fact that the game hasn’t released the new Airship map yet, which was revealed last year during The Game Awards 2020.

Although, developer InnerSloth has already given an explanation for the slow or lack of updates, saying that the team has been having a bit of difficulty implementing the features from the supposed Among Us 2 over to the original Among Us. Understandably so, given the fact that the original title is technically an old game, and utilized a much older system as well.

However, the developer has been releasing minor updates whenever it can, such as new accessibility features, among others. Among Us was also released on the Nintendo Switch and the Xbox Game Pass as well, which just goes to show how far the indie social deduction game has come since 2018.

Star Wars Republic Commando Finally Releasing on PS4 and Switch

Star Wars Republic Commando is officially releasing on the Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4 this April, as a previous leak had suggested. The endeared Star Wars shooter is making its way to non-Xbox consoles for the first time ever, complete with all the updated controls and features.

The renowned shooter made a name for itself by being a darker take into the Star Wars universe, taking place during the events of Star Wars Revenge of the Sith. The game directly leads into the third act of the film, just before Order 66 occurs, leaving a lot of rumors as to what happened to the Delta squad after the game. Development on a sequel was canceled back at LucasArts, but probably Disney will revive the series should there be sufficient response to this game.

STAR WARS™ Republic Commando™ for Nintendo Switch - Nintendo Game Details

Developer Aspyr Media’s announcement for Star Wars Republic Commando ports has come as a shock to many despite the leak. The trailer was posted a few hours ago, giving every fan a dose of nostalgia along with their morning coffee.

Aspyr co-founder, Ted Staloch mentioned that “since its original launch in 2005, Republic Commando continues to be a fan-favorite Star Wars game. We’re honored to be able to work with Lucasfilm Games to bring back this beloved moment in franchise history.”

Star Wars Republic Commando is releasing on April 6, 2021, on the PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch. It is also confirmed that the game will be forward compatible on the PlayStation 5. An Xbox One edition has not been revealed, but the original game is backward compatible on the said console.

Aspyr has ported other games to Xbox, so probably it will just come later with all the updated bells and whistles. The game will feature trophies on its PlayStation ports as well as updated controls, though specific details were not given as of writing.

The future of Star Wars games is promising but right now, there isn’t a lot of information on future plans. Disney recently verified that EA will no longer be the exclusive publisher/developer of Star Wars games and that Ubisoft will be one of the first to take on a new game in the franchise. Ubisoft’s Massive Entertainment will create the open-world game and launch it sometime after its new Avatar game, which is expected to be arriving relatively soon.

Skullgirls 2nd Encore Will Feature a Season Pass

ss_24b7131d90eefb7cf78d1b9e85ed1f69b5e9ad85-1920x1080

The Skullgirls franchise has been through a lot since its release. It started off as a game created by a developer who was an avid fan of fighting games, eventually becoming a fan-favorite game that many within the gaming community still continue to support even though how many years have passed since its initial release.

Nearly ten years have passed, but Skullgirls fans still have something to look forward to. Specifically, it’s set to receive its biggest update so far in the game’s history. For one thing, Skullgirls has confirmed that it will be implementing a Season Pass, which will be a first for the 2D indie game.

Other than that, fans can also look forward to the addition of four new playable fighters, along with new color palettes and fun stages. The first fighter that was announced as part of Skullgirls’ Season Pass is Annie, who was first announced last year in August. Speaking of, Skullgirls dropped a new trailer for the character earlier in the month, along with a teaser that a new DLC fighter will be revealed soon.

Other than that, developer Autumn Games also revealed that Skullgirls, thanks to the Season Pass, will have some kind of Story Mode included as well. For those who are interested in experiencing everything that the Season Pass has to offer, players will have to fork over $30, while each character will cost $10 for those who choose to buy them individually.

One thing that fans have noticed about this announcement is that the Skullgirls Season Pass has a number on it. This makes sense, though, given that the game’s developer plans on making this into a long-running feature where more and more characters get released in the future. As such, this first Season Pass has the number “1” on it.

Because of all this information so far, fans took this as a sign that Skullgirls‘ current developer has a lot planned for the fighting game and its future. While it’s not a new thing for the game to release DLC characters—Skullgirls has done so over the past decade—this would be the first time that the game actually has a planned package for extra characters. It used to only be single character releases.

ss_5a33457602fa8cc9f39e0112a9127e02aa3b9f6f-1920x1080-4656591

When Annie’s teaser trailer dropped earlier this year, the trailer ended with an indication that Skullgirls fans should prepare themselves for the announcement of the next fighter. In the past, Skullgirls released new DLC characters through a voting system, where the developer gave out a list of options for players to vote on. The first character that got added to the game via this voting system was Eliza, who was then followed by Big Band and Beowulf.

However, that won’t be the case this time around, as the Season Pass already has a set of characters who will slowly be revealed to the public as months pass by. Even though Skullgirls has always had a special place in fans’ hearts, the game itself has been through some awful controversy.

Due to sexual misconduct allegations which caused the downfall of Skullgirls‘ first development studio Lab Zero Games, the 2D fighting title is now under the wings of Autumn Games. The game’s development, along with this current Season Pass, will be worked on by this studio, and so far it has been doing a great job.

Silent Bear Studio Announces New Horror Title Dark Moonlight

0
ss_95c20313dc8ad4eb14089a47ba8523002041b2b9-1920x1080

If you’re a fan of horror games, then you may want to check this out. Developer Silent Bear Studio and publisher Black Rose Projects have recently announced Dark Moonlight, an upcoming survival horror game for the PC. The new title will feature first-person gameplay, as you encounter and battle against monsters and bosses, as well as figure out a variety of mind-boggling puzzles. The two Poland-based companies have yet to reveal the game’s release date, however.

In Dark Moonlight, you take on the role of the protagonist known as Dave Kellerman, who undergoes experimental medical treatment for his intense phobias. As expected of a horror game, however, this modern treatment doesn’t go as smoothly as they had hoped. As a result, Kellerman’s phobias become a reality instead, as he gets sucked into a dark and horrible world full of nightmares and all kinds of demons and monsters.

As Kellerman, you have to figure out what’s happening and how to get out of this hellish situation—or die trying.

ss_8de1f984d42ed75007d0e0633c83be98261fec0e-1920x1080-4302362

At the moment, details about Dark Moonlight are scarce, so interested players are still starved for information. From the few details Silent Bear Studio shared, though, Dark Moonlight will apparently involve fighting off monsters by using a variety of weapons. As mentioned, you will have to spend time solving puzzles as well, similar to the style of Resident Evil 7’s gameplay.

The announcement also comes with a short in-engine trailer for the upcoming game. While it doesn’t offer that much information and scarcely any context, it does give you a spine-chilling idea of what Dark Moonlight can offer you.

According to Dark Moonlight’s developer, it took inspiration from multiple horror-based media and content, predominantly from the popular Netflix series called Black Mirror. Just in case you aren’t familiar with this show, it’s a series of episodes set in the not too distant dystopian future.

There are different characters involved, each one with their own respective stories, and they have to wrestle with modern technology and how it negatively impacts their daily life. It’s an interesting concept of a show, and can definitely be haunting in the sense that some of the episodes mirror the real world we currently live in.

As for the different games that the developer was inspired by, Silent Bear Studio specially mentioned Outlast, Resident Evil, and Silent Hill. Seeing as these are iconic and spine-chilling horror franchises, it makes a lot of sense for the company to be heavily influenced by them.

Given the little information we do have about Dark Moonlight, it’s clear to see that the development team working on this upcoming title knows what they’re doing, seeing as they’re fans of the horror genre themselves. As such, we’re definitely interested to see what kind of horror game they’re bringing into the world, and if Dark Moonlight will be able to live up to the horrific expectations that interested players already have.

BioWare Officially Cancels Anthem 2.0

If you closely follow the goings-on in the video game industry and community, then you’re familiar with the fact that BioWare’s Anthem didn’t have a successful launch. However, there were still dedicated fans who didn’t want to give up on the franchise, holding on to the hope that Anthem 2.0 would be significantly better.

Fans have been eagerly waiting for any kind of news or update about Anthem 2.0, but now it appears that BioWare has finally broken the silence by officially announcing that Anthem 2.0 is canceled. This news was revealed by none other than Christian Dailey, who is in charge of Anthem’s reboot. As such, there’s no doubt as to the verity of this information.

To put it simply, Dailey said that the team that was dedicated to developing Anthem 2.0 will be redirecting their time, effort, and resources to other franchises like Mass Effect, Star Wars: The Old Republic, and Dragon Age.

anthem-part2-screenshot-03-final-16x9-wm-jpg-adapt_-crop16x9-818p-5211595

Anthem was first launched not too long ago—specifically on February 22, 2019—and recently celebrated its 2nd anniversary. This special occasion most likely prompted BioWare and Electronic Arts to rethink their plans for the game’s future, asking amongst themselves what would be the best thing to do for Anthem now.

Thankfully, BioWare didn’t just drop the game without explaining to its fans. In his post, Dailey talks a bit more about the company’s reasons for deciding to cancel the game. Specifically, BioWare has two major reasons as to why Anthem 2.0 will no longer push through.

The first reason probably comes as no surprise at this point, as it has to do with the coronavirus pandemic. Dailey’s post was straight to the point, and didn’t seem to sugarcoat just how dire the current situation is. He admits that due to COVID-19 and the work from home arrangements, many of BioWare’s plans from 2020 and onwards were deeply impacted.

As such, he states that “not everything we had planned as a studio before COVID-19 can be accomplished without putting undue stress on our teams.” That last part will surely resonate with the gaming community, as players have recently made an effort to call out the unhealthy practice of crunch culture and how this exploits developers.

Other than that, the second reason is that BioWare needs to redirect its full attention into developing the best Dragon Age and Mass Effect titles possible. Besides, these two franchises are more popular compared to Anthem, so it would make sense for the company to prioritize them instead.

Dailey also talked about Star Wars: The Old Republic, assuring excited fans that BioWare will still be supporting the online game with updates and new content. To conclude his statement, the developer implies that this decision was not an easy one for him and the team who worked on Anthem 2.0. However, he’s thankful for all the fans’ support, which greatly helped them last year.

The Anthem community recently discussed the chances Anthem 2.0 had in not getting canceled, and now it seems that Dailey has provided the answer to that. While it must be incredibly disappointing for fans who expected so much more from Anthem 2.0, it’s nice of BioWare to offer a goodbye note and a little closure.

NieR Replicant Gets New Opening Cinematic

0
screenshot-www-youtube-com-2021-02-25-05_24_09

Since NieR Replicant ver.1.22474487139 is set to release within the next few months, Square Enix has decided to reveal what its opening cinematic is going to be. And as intended, this new video has greatly hyped the excited NieR fanbase. Taking only three minutes long, the opening cinematic gives fans an idea of what NieR Replicant’s enhanced graphics look like as well as its soundtrack, which has been remastered and sounds twice as beautiful.

NieR Replicant ver.1.22474487139 is actually a remaster of the first NieR Replicant game which was launched back in 2010. However, this original was only released in Japan and was only exclusively available for the PlayStation 3. That being said, the NieR franchise is actually a spin-off one from the Drakengard series, which takes place during a post-apocalyptic time when humanity is on the edge of extinction.

After the release of the follow-up NieR: Automata, the NieR series as a whole began to take traction. It became so popular that it’s still selling copies how many years since its initial launch, with the game even reaching an incredible sales milestone last December 2020.

As for the recently revealed opening cinematic, some long-time fans may find it familiar. After all, the cinematic is basically a shot-for-shot revamped version of the title sequence from the original game. The main differences, however, is the fact that it features new and improved visuals along with newly recorded voiceovers from the original voice cast.

The opening cinematic is fast-paced and is action-packed, quickly going through footage of important characters and in-game locations. Other than the pivotal cast of characters, the audience is also introduced to other characters who play a major role in NieR Replicant, such as Devola, the Masked People, and Yonah.

Of course, the cinematic also features gameplay footage featuring the different enemies that players must face in the game, including the iconic Hansel and Gretel encounter. One of the reasons why NieR stands out among the other titles of the same genre is partly due to its incredible music direction, which we have Japanese composer Keiichi Okabe to thank for. The opening cinematic trailer features some of the most popular tracks, including the “Emil / Karma” at the end.

screenshot-www-youtube-com-2021-02-25-09_10_07

Since its initial announcement, publisher Square Enix has been generously sharing a ton of information about the upcoming remaster of NieR Replicant. In fact, the company recently showcased a nine-minute long gameplay video that’s set in the Barren Temple, giving the fans a glimpse of what they can expect from the game once released.

After painstakingly going through the temple and ensuring that they didn’t miss a thing, the player quickly showcased all the new and attractive features that NieR Replicant ver.1.22474487139’s combat system will have. Among other things, its gameplay looks much smoother as well, and modern technology was able to fully bring Barren Temple to life.

It was also previously revealed that NieR Replicant will release exclusive collectibles, perfect for those fans who have extra cash to spend. On the other hand, there’s another set of NieR-themed merchandise that was revealed this month as well, which comes in the form of card cases and pouches.

The new Call of Duty Black Ops Cold War Season 2 content adds reactive blueprints to the game. For buying the Season 2 battle pass, players can instantly unlock the new operator Naga alongside a new Wellington Safari Watch as well as the new Park Operator Skin.

As an additional bonus, players who buy the Season 2 battle pass will gain a 10% XP boost for the whole season. Players will also be able to acquire two free weapons such as the LC10 SMG and FARA 83 assault rifle. These two guns are designed to improve any player’s arsenal and dominate the battlefield in zombies, multiplayer, and battle royale environments.

The Call of Duty Black Ops Cold War Season 2 skins include Adler’s Renegade skin at Tier 20 and Power’s Coyote Dust skin at Tier 70. Designed for tropical environments, these skins can help settle the dust as players are taken on to a new environment of warfare. Additionally, a new Tactical Roll finishing move can also be obtained at Tier 19 for a unique melee option to take down opponents in style.

The battle pass also contains a few war tracks and weapon blueprints, but players are more hyped for the Tier 95 Reactive weapon. This is the first reactive camo to be introduced to the game, and it displays player skill in real-time by pulsating green across an image of a skeleton bird. As players obtain more kills, the pulse turns from green to blue, then orange, and finally red as players rack up kills throughout a Call of Duty Black Ops Cold War multiplayer match.
